  • Park Sense Automatic Braking is designed to help prevent minor fender benders when maneuvering at slow speeds. However, sometimes you might want to temporarily disable or override the automatic braking.

    I just got a 2021 ram 1500 and this feature surprised me backing out of my driveway, it didn't like the snow bank that the plow trucks built up along the road lol. Was taking Grandma for a test drive and she freaked out and was afraid my new truck got damaged haha.

      What year is your truck? I think that the system has gotten better about detecting things like tall grass. Initially, I was trying to get the brake to activate by leaving the tailgate down. Leaving the tailgate down made it work a couple of times on a 2019/2020 truck, but it didn't work on the 2022 models.

    If your in a carjacking or similar situation where you need to accelerate forward or maneuver to avoid a collision, will the vehicle engage the autobrake or is it only in reverse?

    • @prestonflanikensellscars9640
      @prestonflanikensellscars9640  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that it is important to know what exact options are on your vehicle and what the owner's manual says. Here is what the owner's manual says about the ParkSense Front and Rear Park Assist system. "The ParkSense Park Assist system provides visual and audible indications of the distance between the rear and/or front fascia and a detected obstacle when backing up or moving forward (e.g. during a parking maneuver). If your vehicle is equipped with the automatic braking function, the vehicle brakes may be automatically applied and released when the vehicle is in REVERSE if the system detects a possible collision with an obstacle." And "The automatic braking function is intended to assist the driver in avoiding possible collisions with detected obstacles when backing up in REVERSE gear." Ram put reverse in all caps, not me. LOL. There is a Forward Collision Warning System that might be a concern in the situations you asked about. I recommend going to the Mopar website and finding the online owner's manual for the year and model you are interested in. Here's a short video showing how to look this up. th-cam.com/video/SE0LdDM0BIw/w-d-xo.html

    I also found that if you try to back up with the driver’s side door open, the truck will turn on the parking brake and you’ll get some weird alert message. It mentions auto-park and I don’t even have that feature. It freaked me out lol.

    • @prestonflanikensellscars9640
      @prestonflanikensellscars9640  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a safety feature that can’t be turned off. You can override it though. If you have your seat belt on, then it won’t shift into park. Also, you can push on the emergency brake button. It will override the auto park until you cycle the engine off.

    I've driven a few cars with this feature, and the first time it slammed on the brakes, it scared the crap out of me. Not once have these "assistance" systems ever actually helped me. 100% of the time, it just throws a false positive and makes it hard to back into spots without having to drive really slow, especially when there's bushes or tall grass

    • @prestonflanikensellscars9640

      The automatic braking can go off when an owner is backing down a steep driveway, backing up to a trailer, backing into a parking area, etc. Basically anytime someone is paying attention to where they are going but the system detects a possible collision when you’re in control of the vehicle. I wouldn’t turn this off through the radio, but, I would temporarily disable the automatic braking from time to time.
