Black Spanish Turkeys acting like turkeys.

We are a bit new to turkeys so we find this rather interesting. Particularly the hen fanning her tail feathers and dropping her wings like the 2 toms.

I live in the state of Indiana and while turkey hunting one year not only did I witness a hen turkey drop her wings and spread her tail like a tom turkey would do during mating season but she actually even let out a very poorly executed Gobble like a Tom Would do during mating season. Now she didn't have any beard at all but there was a hen in the group that actually had a double beard very small beards but she definitely had two beards so I was definitely treated to some very confused turkeys that year of hunting. I wanted to shoot the bearded hen and mount since she was a double beard but she was just too small. I bet she didn't weigh 8 or 10 pounds wet. If she would hit around 14lbs or bigger she would be a full bird mount for sure.

There’s some interesting research out now about Alpha Toms and their back up dancer “wingman” who will help him get the lady. They used to think this only happened with full dna sibling but new info shows differently.

Interesting. I've seen some of the wild turkeys in this area do similar things.
