This song has always stirred up something quite different in me........a bit of melancholy.....an association with something strong and real from my past-like the need to seek and find truth even at it's most raw and elementary level. Then the twist....getting derailed by....life. A quest may be honorable, but the journey....oh yes the journey can be legendary.
Came here in October 24. Because if put this on a JVC system from the 90s, put it on stadium, drop the center out, and delay to 3, you get nothing but riff in your face and lyrics from way back in the next county and it's still the best thing I've ever heard.
i proud just to have seen these guys in a Reading bar before anyone knew who they were in the late 80s early 90s??? a long time ago. You could see the raw talent then. And they still sound amazing live from what I understand.
This came out when I was in college. Me and some others heard it and we thought wait is this Tool? We were really drunk but at first wasn’t sure then found out and was like damn they came hard on this one.
It was an evening I shared with the sun To find out where we belong From the earliest days We were dancing in the shadows More wine 'Cause I got to have it More skin 'Cause I got to eat it Inside the outside By the river Used to be so calm Used to be so sane I rushed the lady's room Took the water from the toilet Washed her feet and blessed her name More peace Is such a dirty habit Slow down We're too afraid Let me ride Burn my eyes Let me ride It was an evening I shared with the sun To find out where we belong From the earliest days We were dancing in the shadows Slow down We're too afraid Let me ride Burn my eyes Let me ride
okay, yea, this song is about opiate addiction with a girl that you love who is also a junkie, and perhaps she loves him back, but as they are both junkies, they literally cant stop cheating on each other with large doses of heroin that they both take turns playing nurse on each other with, before having crazy steamy and sexy heroin sex, where they both know that what they really want is waiting to be injected into their veins in the womans foot, as she cannot find any other veins as she has blown them all out from being an impatient junkie and reusing old needles over and over because every last dollar goes to the dope man. but yea so he makes the heroin shot with toilet water and shoots it up into her foot vein, and like hes even like "god this is gross, *such a dirty habit* but hes also, *got to have it* but yea dancing in the shadows is often what ends up happening to people who shoot heroin every day. they become reclusive, kinda loopy and like, almost floppy with their muscles, which are all loosened up all the time, which is why they are *dancing in the shadows* and you can tell he still loves her through this depravity, because he calls her the sun. meaning she is his day. his light. in the darkness. just my opinion. i know it says more win but honestly i think thats just an artistic choice and a damn good one, as , MORE HEROIN, just doesnt have the right oomph that he gave it. its too many syllables for one, so it wouldnt work with the urgency he screams for his need for more of the deadly opiate to enter his bloodstream. they are both trying to find out where they belong, because they really dont belong anywhere, the world shuns them, and their addiction is the only thing keeping them together. its a really sad and beautiful song. its one of my favorite songs from a band that IM actually not the biggest fan of. Live is great, yes, but idk, i dont quite enjoy their other albums, i only like secret samdhi
This is an intentionally harsh and ugly chord progression. Even the metal bands of the day would not have done it. Was not crazy about it back in the day, but now really appreciate the uncomfortable feeling Ed was trying to make us all feel. It's a work of art much like "Freaks." Granted, works of art are not what wins platinum status.
@Andy Salter - you have a point. Was not a fan of the first two but owned everything Alice put out. Cantrell is a pioneer. Not that he invented those sounds. He just used them in new and darker ways. Thanks for the correction. I did play drums in metal bands and gigged in the early 90s before getting out of it. But remember, we're talking about an alternative kind of band. This was bold.
It'd be completely different. The guitar is jamming but think Jerry Cantrell would have been heavier.with a solo mixed in. The singers are very different, and AIC would have harmonies and no violins. Totally different but still, it would have rocked! AIC was my favorite from that era.
This would be a listening class....so if the lyrics happen to be spelled wrong...you will only get three stars ...not four....see the wasn't so bad....back to listening..😄👍
💋👣🕳🎩✍🐾💐 three lil froggies only one wasnt scared and an ore and a bic Ive got it among other thingies ive got it all here I hope so I can get busy being busy workin Will u please get over here x Xx
Still One of the greatest Orchestral Arrangements And improvisation IN Rock Music.
Agreed. It's a masterpiece in rock music.
Edward Miller agreed
Totally agreed. One of my other favorites is fuel - shimmer. But that's my opinion
Everything about this song is so freaking awesome!
Lmfao

God that's pretentious
Like I allways say; when life sucks...stick you weiner in it..
Such a raw and real sound. Love this song
:54 to 1:14 I always always loved that part hearing that in the 90s radio. KROQ!!!!!!

This song is straight fire why can't all their music be more like this .
They have a few more secondary hits like this. Their mainstream stuff is terrible and overplayed I agree.
Man that riff is nasty
Right?!!
Best song ever ❤I’ve been rocking out to this since I was 10 and I’m 35 now
Same
Took me a while but I found it ! Great song

Best song in my 42 years of life
These guys are legendary! Poet!
For 15 years I thought its was "Let me risssseeeeee" Man......
That would actually be a better lyric.
I thought it was called where we belong
Yeah that would be very fitting...
The music video for this song is fire af
that moment when you think youre grandfather probably listens to really old and boring music but then he tells you to listen to this song...

It was an evening I shared with the sun
To find out where we belong
From the earliest days
We were dancing in the shadows
More wine
'Cause I got to have it
More skin
'Cause I got to eat it
Inside the outside
By the river
Used to be so calm
Used to be so sane
I rushed the lady's room
Took the water from the toilet
Washed her feet and blessed her name
More peace
Is such a dirty habit
Slow down
We're too afraid
Let me ride
Burn my eyes
Let me ride
It was an evening I shared with the sun
To find out where we belong
From the earliest days
We were dancing in the shadows
Slow down
We're too afraid
Let me ride
Burn my eyes
Let me ride
Well it’s about time I’ve found this song
Good song of angst, perfect for me during my divorce

They got double platinum status with the album this song was on.

This is the only Live song I liked, but I really liked it. Feels in every way like a Tool song, except for the orchestral junk.
"The Dolphins Cry " is the Best song for me.
Listen to 'White, Discussion'
I was listening to this yesterday thinking Live is like Tool lite
Bad🤫Ronald LIVE! York PA . TH-cam .com

It was an evening I shred with a gun
Am I interpreting these lyrics correctly or am I a huge pervert?!
You never said what your interpretation of the lyrics are, just a vague reference to them being seen as perverted.

Don't burn your eyes and stop eating skin , no more skin eating , unless it's fried tofu skin then that's ok .. moderately .
Overcapacity, sir
Tool should cover this song...
Shotgun
Possibly Kutless based their song Treason on this riff
It sounds like Treason by Kutless
Bad ass song. Terrible lyric video. One thing you need in a lyric video? The lyrics visibly on screen 😅🤦♂️
It was an evening I shared with the Sun (of a BITCH)

I still like this song but i always felt this is a rip off of comfortable liar by chevelle

The subliminal message to this song is LET ME ROT
At the end of a song where he speaks let me ride a.k.a. let me rot!
