You're a quiet person. And quiet people are just so beautiful from inside. This video is a proof of this fact. And yes, being judgemental is the worse face of a human being. We should never be judgemental to anything. I absolutely love this video. You write so beautiful that is so deep and that touches the heart. 💗💗 I also used to click photos. I have an old nikon D5300 with a 35mm lens. But I don't know I lost interest in the external world for some reason. I make songs now. And that makes me feel good. Good wishes to you. I pray for your good health. 🙏

I used to only get excited about photography when I would travel, I thought my town and neighborhood were boring. Now I take my camera with me on most of my walks. I don't always shoot a lot but I now have lots of pictures of the same tree, creek, and fences in my neighborhood and backyard. I'm now more inspired overall than I ever was only doing travel stuff simply because I shoot so much more often now. Thanks for sharing your story!

The comments below say so much for the appreciation that many who have seen this video are expressing to your encouragement and hope. Ive been reading your blog and watching your videos, dealing with anxiety for over 44 years I can empathize with you 100% Photography too has saved my life, I realized that is why I was the one always with a camera growing up capturing the beauty of our family even in hard times. Keep striving and keep making more videos like this...

I enjoyed this video a lot Aly. It takes a vast amount of courage to say something like this, and you said it so well. A very beautiful video. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing it. For me, it's also therapy, but it's also just me trying to forever remember these people I share my home and office with. I love them, and they tolerate my compulsion to photograph them :)

This was a very moving video. It can't have been easy for you and I totally understand the need for a creative outlet in times like that.
I live in Melbourne, Australia and as of today (23rd september) we hold the record for the worlds longest locked-down city. For several months last year and for the past 7 weeks we haven't been able to travel more than 5kms (about 3 miles) from our homes so let's just say I've photographed just about every inch of my backyard several times over. It's just about the only thing that kept me reasonably sane. That and spending too much on ebay on camera gear and photography books.
Anyway I love your channel. Keep strong and keep shooting!

Lovely video Aly. I love shooting analogue and the pictures that gave me the biggest thrill last year were on a Diana F that I bought for £20 (incl film) at a car boot sale. The simple camera frees you from the levels of perfection that you tend to seek from digital gear. I wouldnt be without my Sony mirrorless but probably bet more pleasure from an old box camera!

Great video. On July 1st, I had open heart surgery, and during my recovery, I decided to take up photography after a 32 year hiatus. Quickly, I discovered film to be too expensive for me (I'm on a fixed income), and so I dove into digital for the first time. I slowly (and I mean SLOWLY!) began to learn how to use digital cameras. Being confined to home, and unable to sleep comfortably, I began roaming the house, taking photos day and night. Taking inspiration from a great photographer, Josef Sudek, I began taking photos out any window that offered a view. It is amazing how creative one can become when limited basically to four walls and a few windows. What great therapy it has been!

Absolutely agree and identify with everything you’ve said. I do the same things and have been reading a book by Sudek. Which digital camera do you use? I’m also on a fixed income and film is becoming so expensive. I just love it so much and the whole process. I hope it goes down soon. Thanks for watching and commenting :)

@@AlysVintageCameraAlley Thank you so much for your reply! I started out with a Canon A470 I found at Goodwill (which I gave to one of my grandchildren... forgot to mention I'm old), then I found, for $20.00 at a pawn shop, a Fujifilm Finepix S2500HD which I gave to another of my grandchildren. I bought a Canon 20D DSLR, which I promptly ruined somehow (I'm good at that), I've bought several pocket type digital cameras since, never paying more than $50.00, and they have all produced, to my eye at least, really good quality pictures. I recently bought a Canon 40D DSLR on Ebay ($41.00!), and have slowly been learning how to use it. I purchased an adapter which allows me to use my old MD mount lenses on it, which makes it pretty much a manual camera, and I have taken some pretty nice photos (for me) with it. I try to get as much a vintage film look in my photos as I can, and one of my cameras (Canon S110) even has a mode that simulates film. I like to take photos of things that interest me, intrigue me, mystify me, and / or project a particular mood. I am not a good photographer... I've said it for 50 years now; some people take photographs... I take pictures. But I do love it! Thanks for listening, and thank you for your channel. It's down to earth and real. Your love for photography shines through!

For me, my photography is my release, my outlet for my emotions, as I feel that not much in life right now is under my control, with this never ending pandemic, and documenting my family, my friends etc is the one thing I can control right now. It helps me feel grounded again.

Very cool piece! I admire your struggle. I have come back to photography (and birding) over the last few years to uphold my sanity against the irrationality, death, and hatred ramping up in the world - creativity is a strengthening tonic that adds stability back to your very bones. It is what drives us inside whether we recognize it or not. Look forward to more like this!

Aly, (to the extent that it’s possible from many miles away and through a TH-cam video) I see you and your determination and courage to endure and work through your extremely difficult experiences. Thank you for sharing your experience and how photography saved your life and helped you cope. This was such a beautiful and meaningful message you shared with us. I can relate to what you shared about finding things at your home to photograph-this is something I’ve been doing a lot more of for the past couple years as my severe mental health struggles make it very difficult for me to leave home and photography has also been something that has saved my life, helped me cope when I didn’t think it was possible to survive and was a way to express myself. Your words, images and video were so inspiring and encouraging to me-thank you for putting so much of yourself and your energy into creating and sharing this video.

With the pandemic and the lockdown I had to look for photos opportunities around the house, two of my best film photos in 2021 were taken in my backyard, 20 feet from my door, something that I have would never have done if I had not been limited by the pandemic. I always thought there was nothing interesting around the house, I was obviously wrong
