I think the custom cymbal is a "Durbar anti-slip steel floor plate" that he has made into a cymbal. Sounds like steel when he hits it, and the pattern on the top is the same.

Groovy. That was my takeaway and I'm no drummer. I know what I like. I like funky and groovy. He's all of that and much much more. Best drummer I've heard in a long long time.

in terms of the cymbal, i think mario just had a thick piece of diamond plate steel cut in a circle. it's a nice bell sound. i love that mega bell ride too!

Very groovy, musical solo, that at points turns into powerful madness. Really like it. Mario is definitely one of the most singular metal drummer out there. I know Mario for being a very powerful drummer (for me he is kind of the John Bonham of technical metal drummers), but here we can also definitely here a lot of finesse and mastery.
I loved the comparison with Baard Kolstad, when it comes to completely being immersed in what they are playing :)

Bit of background info about this drum vid for everyone.....
“”In the beginning there was nothing but an empty black void.
Then the “supreme entity” who for unknown reasons was in charge of literally nothing got bored as shit & decided his empty black void sucked hard. So he spoke the Drum Kit into existence, & he separated this Kit from the void. He was stoked with the kit & so he knocked off. That was the 1st day, even tho the void was technically more like night.
Then on the 2nd day the supreme entity decided the Drum Kit was cool & all but he hadn’t factored in his own lack of physical form necessary to utilise his own creation. He went to facepalm, but yknow, no face, no palm....
Supreme being had a eureka moment and spoke a floating face into existence & he named this face Mario. Then he created palms. The Mario face said wtf & explained to supreme being how he’d fucked up & put him straight about fingers wrists arms elbows etc. Apologising, he fixed the issue.
Then Mario face demanded the creation of Drumsticks & eye rolled in disappointment at supreme being not really living up to the hype.
Mario face called it there for day 2. Supreme being, his authority fading fast, went along with that, fearful of losing any more respect than he had already.
On Day 3, Mario face said to supreme being “look bro, cheers for creating the Drum Kit & my face ok, but you can go now, I got this. I’m about to create Time for you and if you try to help it’ll come out completely fucked & I’ll be forced to track your existential ass down & beat you to death with your own drumstick creations which BTW I had to explain to you as well a my arms, you fool.
Now fuck off ok, it’s just easier if I take it from here. Just hit play for me on your way out.”””

That small symbol reminds me of my dad who used skill saw blades as part of his drum set. They sound a bit like that but more flat, and they looked gnarly. My dad was also a carpenter lol.

PS: I kind of wondered if you test out different sticks from different brands. I'd like to hear (if possible) your opinion on the Kuppemen 7A carbon sticks. I just recently re-started to play drums earlier in the year , at basic level. I got these sticks but due to Covid, it may be a while before I get to try them.

I'm pretty sure Mario does indeed play a limited edition bubinga Starclassic kit along with a bell brass snare. His drum sounds are always incredible and so is his playing.

I was Mario’s drumtech for about a year, plays solid every night and if you can believe he likes his toms “tuned” finger tight as in barely any tension on the hoops.. sounded like crap without a mic but once they went into the PA they always sounded huge.. Everyone in the band are stand up good guys and would do anything for anyone!

I'd be stoked to see you react to the drumming of Yoni Madar/Johnny Mathar. I've been drumming for ~12 years and I've never seen someone with such a combination of skill and musicality. Dude mastered keyboard, right AND left-handed guitar in order to improve his drumming. I swear there isn't a drummer in the world that couldn't learn something new from him.

I do agree that there's at times an over dosage of memes that seems to be there to try to be funny. Sometimes, less is more. I do get it that its beneficial as a youtuber, but it's all about timing. I mean it in a very constructive manner. For the rest, it's good stuff!
