MN Boy, here. Can't get enough of your videos. Great content, and you don't just talk theory. You get out there and show us the technique at work! They say that some people look their whole life for the right fishing partner. I made mine, and he'll be 6 in a couple months. He's already doing his own fighting, he got a 3# bass and several cats between 1 and 5# this year.
Well I wish u the best. I made mine too. He one most fish caught for three yrs in Boy Scouts. Dove hunts. Deer hunts. You name it. At 12. He stopped liking it.
@@trinkladd I was one of the best baseball players in my state growing up. I got bored. I don't know your means or your situation but maybe introduce him to some BIG sea fishing. It always opens kids/teens eyes.
@@trinkladd Also just wanted to say, 12 is that age where they are finding things out...don't be surprised in 5 years when he is begging you to borrow your boat to fish..I truly believe seasons change but that love of fishing..even if it might go away for awhile...it will last forever.
That is my brother ‘s and my favorite rod. We have them in 7, 9, and 11 foot but the nine is our favorite. You can almost feel the fishes breath on the bait.
I use those gulps quite a bit Gene and what I started doing to keep them from tearing off so easily was to empty the liquid off of them and let them sit on a dry surface until they dry out enough to be firm but still flexible. It makes them last three times longer and they work just as good. The tiny ones are great too in the bright middle of the day in summer or winter when crappie have lock jaw.
In a jar...where do you find these? I like the chartreuse best, 2nd choice is shad, smelt comes in 3rd but all in 1 inch. Haven't seen them in a jar, I sure would like to find them though, the zip-lock packs just don't last. Thanks.
@@Vdub1910 Yeah, the oil/solution is kinda nasty, but most things fish find tasty do seem to be like that. I'll look it up and see about placing an order. Thanks very much for the reply & info! Tight lines my Friend!

Good grief, chief! Good fishin' video, and some zany antics thar' at th' end! I discovered the Berkeley Gulp Minnows earlier this year, and I've actually had fairly good luck with 'em! Keep fishin', & tight lines to ya!!!
Waters are hot here in Wichita, Kansas too. We're getting alot of rain currently. I caught a 25lb flathead with 20lb mono in this county park....with 3 worms on circle hook. My buddies told me ain't no big catfish this park...bullshit because I caught one and there is more. Once they seen the pics...I told them Elmo told me they were here! They were like aaaaahh duh what?!?! I caught that big one watching you Mr.Green. I learned alot from my Grandpa too. I love your videos and teaching skills of fishing! I would rather watch you than anyone else. Elmo is awesome!!! I'm going to try the Gulp minnow bait I bought because I want some deep fried lemon pepper crappie. Good stuff Sir!!!😎👍👍👍
Great looking crappie Brother 👊🏻 I don’t know if ppl paid attention to you Richard, but you did something that is extremely important when it comes to crappie fishing...you laid your net down gently!! Being super quiet definitely helps your odds of catching more from that particular school of fish 👍🏻 Thanks for another awesome video and tips Brother 👊🏻👊🏻 Awesome gifts Chelsea and Kelsea also Todd...hopefully i got close to spelling your names correctly!!!
Could you give us a video on your boat set up that has green carpet. I think I have a boat similar and am wanting to get ideas if you don't mind. Keep up the good work. Great stuff
great looking crappie,, would have ate for two days.. Mr. Gene, I think you love thoz chuck taylors as much as I do.. definitely a shoe of champions. God Bless.
I love that mean shake they usually do as you grip their lip with your thumb. The same thing up here in Iowa. Woo! I go when I can, cuz it's GOOD FURYA!
I can't help but grin when I see the suggestions for your videos at the end. I've already seen them all. 🎣🎣👍🙋♂️ I may be starting to think a little like you because I was wondering if there was a current and bam there you were.😉🤣

Gene I'm really having trouble catching crappie in Waurika lake hear in Oklahoma on jigs. I can't buy a fish if I'm not using minnows. It's really been hot 100 to 105 here in August the water is really hot. I'm watching them at about 18 feet. Thanks for the fun.
Hey Richard, talk to me about those colored shades you ware that helps you see down in the water better. i use to fish a lot back 20 years ago but because of work and whatever I havent fished for years. but I have retired and am trying to get back at it. been watching your videos and have learned lots of new tricks from you. Thanks for the videos, i really enjoy watching you fish. I live in the Arkansas Ozarks so lots of good fishing all around. Thanks again: Stan
I subbed as soon as I heard you laughing. I have used those plastic minnows but have had more luck with the tiny nymphs that look like baby crawfish. Especially when ice fishing but that’s a whole other topic I realize.
Great video. I understand that you're workin to catch those fish, but it's still good to see that anyone can catch fish in any conditions. Love those Gulp Minnows! They're my go to when nothin else is makin them bite. Love ya Man!
Richard Gene you remind me of my granddaddy. He kept it real simple… Mitchell 300 or Zebco reels, Beetle spins, pumpkinseed culprit worms or live bait and a bream buster pole. He always caught fish though. I sure do miss fishing with him. watching you Brings back those memories.
I've used Berkeley Gulp Minnows for a couple of years now, and caught everything from crappie to catfish with them. Spray them with a little bit of Slab Sauce and the fish can't resist them!!
Good morning Richard well at least where I'm at. I'm one of your subscribers and I'm having a hard time throwing a cast net. I've seen a lot of your videos where you catch bait with a cast net and I noticed that you seem to throw the perfect round Pitch. I was wondering if you could make a cast net tutorial so that way I could learn a little bit of your wisdom it doesn't have to be long but at least long enough for me to learn your method. Thank you so much and I hope to see your upcoming videos. God bless from Houston Texas.
Mr Gene wal mart carries a bat called Gotta bites. They look lil mini lizards. Crappie love em.. And also we would like to see a catch and cook of those crappie.. That lil cat fish is good bait to..
i wonder if you might try ice fishing jigs that fall with some lateral glide..to get under those docks...of course will be somewhat random which direction it glides.
I have been using Bobby Garland baby shad for awhile now, and I still catch a lot of fish with them, but I have been noticing they rip and tear a lot easier lately. I might try the Berkley stuff to see what it’s like.
Gulp alive minnow is a must for panfish. The 1inch are good for the heat more than 2. I don't like them as much in super cold water like under the ice.
I like gulp that little cat would been just the right size for my aquarium lol i had a 2lb blue cat pierce almost all the way through my palm a couple weeks ago
If you had some superglue you can fix them in no time. Been on the lake before with very few of the bait that was working. Good thing I had some glue with me. You know that at any time you can catch white Crappie and black Crappie and they'll be colored up the same. The main way and easiest way to tell is the spines of the dorsal fin.
I commented below earlier, I have been using Bobby Garlands forever..but it seems like lately they have been ripping/tearing much easier. Have you noticed this at all?
Do you mean time of the day, or time of the year? The spring spawn is when you'll be most successful, but RGTFM has proven time and again that crappie can be caught any time of the year under any conditions. You just have to be willing to spend the time to find where they're schooling.
