Very mind blowing and Brain frying stuff.Yes it's heavy duty.Can be confusing between each cow bell when trying to read the parts.Then when you pause it goes out in no time.They are great rhythms by sound.Very melodic but to practice is advanced percussion.Once accomplished, then the percussion technique will be taken completely to a new level.
Very educational, just this one video should acquire all the basic skills for timbale Latin percussion.Then it's a matter of playing along to salsa music.Then just finding ones own way.I have been practicing between cow bell and bongos.Yes interesting how it could be applied to all percussion drum instruments including the drum kit .Then I would try incorporating double 8th notes around each quarter note area.That bom bom affect maybe with hi hat on every last base drum beat.That would be the next progression and challenge.Just on the timbales along with cow bells, the rhymes are both challenging and interesting.After accomplished this video will be practice to music.In the middle of building a cow bell stand out of wood ,then should be cool.Good work.
Hi Rick, it seems that stick control contains all possible permutation of rhythms. the timbal Carrara patter, campagna, etc are also included or contained in the exercises? I ask this because I wonder if all stick control exercises atomaticaaly includes all possible patterns and solos that can be performed in a timbal or conga or bongo. Hope the questions is understandable.
Thanks for the video Rick. A nice educational video! What does the term "Mambo" actually mean? Is it a clave? It seems that the Mambo is a collection of son, rumba, casacara etc. Am I right?
Hi Mambo is a ballroom dance just as Rumba, Cha Cha Cha are. There are more intricate dance moves involved compared to other Latin American rhythms. I learned to dance it (poorly I should say) so I could relate to tempo issues that dancers might have.
@@rickdior Thanks for your reply Rick. I know that the mambo is a dance. I am referring to the instrumentalist perspective, not the dancer. What I mean is, is the mambo a pattern just like the son and rumba. Or is the son, rumba, cascara all part of the mambo family?
The main differences are tempi. Each groove has a specific tempo range. Cha cha is slower with the emphasis on each quarter note while the mambo is played with a cascara and clave pattern (normally the son clave). Rumba is also slower except for Rumba Guaguanco which has a broader tempo range and a different instrumentation.
