      Carlitos: I’ve been composing music for years that includes Latin, but I’m in dire need of Latin rhythm identification for many of the tunes I’ve written. I know there are others than Samba and bossa novas that I’ve been using for lack of knowledge, and few drummers in my area that are familiar with the rhythms. What I’ve seen of your videos thus far are very helpful and I’d definitely like to learn more: what would you suggest I do? By the way, I just recently discovered Tony Succar and his Afro-Peruvian band that absolutely blew me away! 😎 🎸. Fritz4Bass

    I usually reply latin...what? 🤣
    You play this soo beautiful! 🤗
    I love your videos. They makes me happy, to hear your smooth effortless drumming.
    Latin is really another solar system. One of the hardest styles to play. That requires alien independence and feel. I'll never get to that level of independence, even if this might be considered intermediate level for latin.
    I've never managed to get my mind around it. I think you'll have to be born in the latin world, and lived it, to really learn it. About the same with most of the world music rythms.

    • @JuanCarlitoMendoza
      @JuanCarlitoMendoza  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's a combination of things, a lot of it is practice, but the other aspect is really listening to authentic music and playing along to the records to get the right feel.

    • @PezrulezHaakon
      @PezrulezHaakon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JuanCarlitoMendoza
      Yes, I agree.
      I've never really listened to that genre of music. But I wouldn't mind learning at least som basic stuff, but I definately suck at independence. Most genres have somewhat accessable basic level. But latin music have a lot harder basic level.
      Keep on doing your incredable stuff! 🤗

    First off, respect !! Been trying to play such rhythms for a while, and manage somewhat, but definitely do not have that relaxed feel you have yet. Now, my question is, when playing two bells (like in example 5), any particular (musical, traditional or other) reason for playing Bongo Bell with right hand and Timbale bell with left hand and not the other way around? I use the same hand setting, but still, I did wonder. Cheers in advance !
