    I don't understand his awarding of the 'Best Supporting Cast'. He ignored Harvey Dent as Dent was barely in Batman, but awarded the point to Batman because of Bob, a character who wasn't in Dark Knight.

      +SourceOfBeing I think he gave the poit for best "hentchman" who's every movie, however to make a hentchman a good interesting character with prety much nothing is amazing, it requires a lot of skill and even more luck to do so

    • @Jon_Nadeau_
      @Jon_Nadeau_ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +110

      +SourceOfBeing I agree I think The Dark Knight absolutely destroys the original Batman in this category. The girlfriend in the original was just another typical helpless female lead who needs to be saved all the time. I think the Michael Caine Alfred is much better too. Doug complained about him always having a speech to say, but Alfred is supposed to act as Batmans mentor and sidekick he can rely on so it fits perfectly. Harvey Dent = perfect. Gordon in the Dark Knight is also better. Oh and let's not forget MORGAN FREEMAN in the Dark Knight!!!!!!!!!!! The Dark Knight totally should of won.

    • @Auldous
      @Auldous 8 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      +SourceOfBeing agreed. it felt more like he gave that category to the Keaton film because he needed it to have the most points, and not genuinely out of which supporting cast he actually found more interesting

    • @calcimothewizard983
      @calcimothewizard983 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +SourceOfBeing The reason bob was the deciding factor for me is because he opens an insight into what it is to be a henchman, a lacky, or a goon. He gave a look into what a henchman does that supports the bigger picture. Tbh joker is almost unable to much of anything without his henchman, and Bob shows how important they are to a super-villain's plot and overall scheme.

    • @fendelphi
      @fendelphi 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Calcimo the Wizard True, but in a sense, we see that in Dark Knight too. Or rather, how the Joker wins or manipulates others to his cause. So while we see a "clear cut henchmen" in Batman, we see the "groundwork" and what it entails, more in Dark Knight, IMO. In addition, there were simply more interesting characters in Dark Knight, but without making it feel forced or strained(well, they do talk alot, so if that is not your thing).

    I adore the thumbnail artwork! It portrays both Ledger's Joker and Nicholson's Joker both so well in just the motion of a handshake. Nick's Joker is funny, more jokey and the use of an electric handbuzzer, while Ledger is very dark and messy. The artworks is great! Good job to the artist who did it!

    The Joker is a funny, creepy, disturbed psychopath whom we know next to nothing about. We think we know, but they keep picking between the 3 Jokers to throw at us.
    The 1960's Joker was the comedy/thief Joker.
    Jack Nicholson gave us the funny and creepy Joker.
    Heath Ledger gave us the Disturbed and Terrifying Joker. The thing that made this one unique is Ledger's "want to know how I got these scars?" Nobody knows, neither did he. That's why his story kept changing.
    However, the best Joker so far.. and also the best Batman.
    Would be Mark Hamil and that funny, twisted and screwed up Joker and his fricking bone chilling laugh.
    The best Batman would be Kevin Conroy.

      - Happy fun time thief & doesn't kill.
      - Sadistic killer clown.
      - Sadistic killer thief who loves mixing in pranks.

      Theory? Joker & Red Hood being the same dude is a canon thing in a lot of series.
      There's an alternate reality where Batman is the super criminal Owlman and Joker is the hero Red Hood fighting these villains, even got his face disfigured like Joker's during one of the fights.
      Then there' the Under the Red Hood movie, where someone takes up the title of Red Hood, which that story's Joker says it used to be his thing and that his outfit was classier.
      There are probably more examples but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

    This is just my opinion:
    Keaton is the better Batman
    Bale is the better Bruce Wayne
    Ledger is the better Joker
    Dark Knight has way better supporting cast
    Dark Knight has the better story, complex and deep but still entertaining
    (A mad man wants to burn Gotham to the ground and Batman do not know how to handle Joker's unpredictability)
    Batman 89 has a good story, simple and paced but effective
    (A mad man wants to destroy Gotham and Batman just have to fight him, he know where and when Joker will make his move)
    Dark Knight wins a mile

      I prefer 89 and the animated series more. Bales voice as batman ruined it for me. I also like jack and mark more than ledger. Ledger just felt way too inaccurate. Every other version before him was funny and dressed the part well. They even had the correct origins with the ace chemicals and the famluse weapons like the posion flower, buzzer, fake gun ect. Ledger only had the crazy side. The 89 one and mark have all joker traits. Ledger only had 1. Thats like saying a superman is better for not having all his powers and instead having spiderman powers is better than one that has all traits of superman. I just dont get how people can praise ledger over mark or jack that are joker when ledger just felt way too off and different making him feel more hannibal lector than the joker. He didnt have the ace chemicals origins, none of the famous gadgets or weapons. He wasnt funny and comical. He also had a bad sense of fashion. His outfit looked bad and his makeup looked so bad like someone needed to yell cut to finish the job. It looked like it was given a half fast job like the face pain wasnt fully finished and some parts are even smeared like it is coming off. The clothes and his hair looked bad too like he was dirty or homeless. Its sad that people find bale batman funny and joker not when it should be the other way around. So many youtube channels make fun of batman. I also didnt like what they did with harvey. I really liked harvey in there the best at first but was very disappointed with how they turned him into 2face. Not only waa it wrong because the joker didnt make him, but in that situation 2face would of killed whoever did it with no trial coin flip. Joker should of been killed right there. The car scene later was sort of interesting but they also on top of it kill him off immediately making 2 face seem very pointless to be in there if your going to kill him off a min later. Batman 89 and the animated series i grew up with and when i saw the dark knight i was very disappointed in so many ways with it. Even the batmobile and the city looked wrong

    • @riggers1977
      @riggers1977 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oliver Queen yeah there’s a lot of truth in what you say. I loved jack Nicholson as the joker, he was funny & psychotic & Hamill’s animated version is the one that comes the closest to how I imagine the clown prince of crime to be in terms of a ‘full character’. I think it was ledger’s actual performance in general, regardless of who he was portraying, that captivated the audience. He took the role to a much darker depth and genuinely brought the concept of a macabre, jester type gangster into our world without making it seem even slightly ridiculous. That’s the thing with the Nolan films, they were meant to be set in this world as opposed to the burton films which were meant to be set in a film noir/comic book world. That’s why Gotham maybe seems a little bland in Nolan’s & it seems much richer in Burton’s. As for batman, yeah totally agree, I love Keaton’s reserved approach, I always liked the idea that batman is a sort of nocturnal spectre who’s feared by the criminal underworld, almost folklore-ish. I liked two-face in the cartoon & wished they’d kept his character going through the Nolan films as he had so much potential. His build up was done brilliantly but then they just allowed him to die without ever really exploring his arc. I watch the Burton batman way more but there’s no denying that the dark knight is an extremely well made film.

      I guess it can be if i dont think of it as a batman film and instead james bond or something else. With a random hero and random terrorist. But its really hard to watch it and not get disapointed with it not feeling at all like the animated series. Its hard also to watch it when batmans voice really ruins it and comes off like a joke for people to make fun of and laugh at. Dont you find it werid for batman in dark knight to be more funny than the joker. College humor makes fun of batman in tons of videos they even make fun of bane. But dont recall them making fun of joker at all or not nearly as much as batman. I find mark and jack just as much crazy dark menacing as ledger but they bring much more to the table with the joker. Where ledgers is missing way too much of the joker to make me feel like this is not the joker. Most of the time when people grow up with the source material of something like a book, comic, animated series, previous films shows ect and they make a new one and its just a little off, most people get mad about it being wrong and bad for not being based off the book. If harry potter lord of the rings were just a little off people would point it out. If they were way off from the source like nolans films were you would think that would piss them off even more. But people for some reason like to make an exception about dark knight. But when people say its better than batman 89 or mask of the Phantasm that is going way too far i feel. The animated series and its films will always be the best. Nothing fits it better. Gotham and dceu come the closest followed by tim burtons even though its been off a little at times but not as much as joels or the 60s. Nolans definitely gets the win for being most off from the source material. Sometimes i wonder if its true the rumors i hear that the reason some people like it more is because they never grew up with the animated series or the previous films and also the death of ledger made people priase it more. You would think if people saw jack and marks first you would be like this is not joker. It would be like putting mr freeze in there with a flamethrower. Or a band getting a new singer with a different voice and changing the stlye of music making the band sound so much different than the band you liked before. As far as nolans it was a little easier for me to like dark knight rises over this one since bane was done much better compared to batman and robin and came off bad ass with the fight scenes of breaking batmans back. Bane felt like a way better villian. One of the few characters that can actually beat the crap out of batman 1 on 1 in a fist fight. Most of his villians suck at fighting in a 1 on 1 hand to hand stlye fighting compared to batman. That gives bane so much more points in dark knight rises. But that movie had problems with talia for me and the way they killed off bane. Batman beings it was easier to try to like and give it a chance as well for using a new villian at the time. Ras the league and scarecrow. But with the dark knight we already had jack do it so well in 89 that it seemed like it would have been better to instead fix the penguin that was done wrong in returns first which is a more realistic batman villian than the joker. If nolan wanted realism the penguin is the way to go. He is realistic in the comics and animated series. So he could be done right at the same time in nolan films. Even the riddler is more realistic batman villian and could of been like he was in arkham city making batman use his detective skills for once in a batman movie live action. That is what really makes mask the best. The animated ones are the only ones that really show how great of a detective he is. Kevin conroy and keaton are still the best batmans.

    If I had a penny for every time someone complained about Bale's voice, I would be rich af. So here's how I see it:
    It's obvious from the beginning that what Nolan is trying to go for is a REALISTIC version of Batman.
    In the comics, Bruce Wayne takes voice lessons to mask his own from people who may recognize him when he wears the cowl.
    Keaton's Batman isn't even trying to hide his natural voice, whereas if you were to have a conversation with Bale's Batman and Bruce Wayne, you're less likely to recognize the natural one.
    His Batthroat makes sense since its extremely difficult to change your voice and changing it to something nearly everyone can mimic raises the suspect list

      Why didn't Bale's Bruce Wayne, aka Bale himself, take voice lessons? I imagine it's not TOO difficult, for a professional actor, to learn one different voice that doesn't sound like a 5yo mimicking his father.

Plus, in the 89 film Bruce isn’t as public as Bale’s(for fucks sake Vickie vale didn’t even notice him when at his house party), so it’s not like a lot of people know what he sounds like

      +BricklordLP eh~ the last one in the trilogy was kind of bland. i didn't like the plot, the ending was kind of dumb and my biggest problem was Bane. yes, i know his alot smarter in this than in the last movie he was in, but jeezus! that look was more ridiculous than the look in the comics and show. he wore a dog muzzle, a pimp coat and some kind of army vest. what was he, a mix of items from the missing pile at Party City? and his plan made no sense. blowing shit up and ruling Gotham....for some reason. and don't get me started on the scene that literally broke this movie for me: the back breaking scene. it was lazily built up, the fighting in the scene (as well as the whole movie) was weak and it didn't look like he broke his back. it was a lack luster ending to an ok film series.

Nothing actually happened until the end, Bruce Wayne was hardly in it, Batman was in it for overall about 10 minutes, the plot made no fucking sense, and it was just a tremendous bore. The only part I liked was the ending... until Nolan took a giant shit on us and laughed at us for feeling emotional and thinking the movie had finally done something good.

    Why did he include Joe from the original but not include Lucius Fox from the new? Morgan Freeman was amazing! Also the reason The Dark Knight's Alfred's dialog had so many speeches in it was because he was basically Bruce's adoptive father. He talks the way he does because he feels he is responsible for teaching Bruce right from wrong. And finally I'm sorry but The Dark Knights story was amazing. The final scene with Batman and Gordon still give me chills to this day. For me on whats better, while the old Batman was more playful, the new one just takes the cake with its ability to be dark and gritty, funny, and thought provoking all at the same time.

  • @bibniebt
    @bibniebt 8 ปีที่แล้ว +155

    There's a difference between the most accurate performance to the comics and the best performance. Ledger's performance stands out among not just comic book film, but all of film history. He allowed himself to get literally lost in the character, researching everything about the joker and pulling it together into a frightening persona set loose on a realistic setting that is NOT the comics. The Dark Knight movies aren't even comic book movies. They're a story based on characters and settings from a comic book if they were set in real life. Ledger's joker is one I could believe really exists. Ledger's joker is one that has incited fear in the sane and inspiration in the insane. I love Hamill's joker, and associate him most with the comic book character, but Ledger was something else entirely. What else can be said about a performance that has inspired troubled individuals to don makeup, buy a gun and start actually murdering people in the name of anarchy? That is power and influence. That is the Joker

    • @oliverqueen9886
      @oliverqueen9886 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I didnt care for ledger. His version disapointed me because it was inaccurate to the comics and animated series. Mark and jack show and tell us not only the origin story, but they have everything about the joker that makes the joker. Ledger only has the crazy side. He wasnt anywhere near as funny or comical as mark or jack. Ledger didnt dress the part correctly and had none of jokers famous gadets and weapons. You might as well put mr freeze in there with no freeze gun and suit. Or put penguin in there with no umbrella. I feel the dark knight is overrated. The penguin was done wrong in batman returns as well. Its hard to say which is more inaccurate between danys penguin or ledgers joker. Nolans movies i didnt care for. The only thing about his movies i found interesting was his bane and maybe scarecrow. Keaton or conroy are better batmans. Batman the mask of the phantom is probably the best batman movie. I feel the animated series is best batman interpretation. Followed by gotham then 1989 batman. Gotham seems to be currently the most interesting batman story since the animated series since we get to see something new and different to the story for once. The origins of the penguin from deniro to the godfather brando. Plus seeing a more accurate version of him compared to batman returns where he is a gray villian. Beside the penguin, gordon, and bruce wayne story being the 3 main ones there are so many other stories shown and explore on gotham. Lots of characters only seen in animated series untill now on gotham.

    • @oliverqueen9886
      @oliverqueen9886 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony Marchisello ledgers joker is just as accurate as a mr freeze with a flamethrower instead of a freeze gun. Mark is the most accurate to the comics. The animated series is the true interpretation of batman and its movies the mask of Phantasm and the mr freeze subzero one. As far as live action jokers jack is done way better. It shows us his orgins which already alone makes it 1 step ahead of the dark knight. Also hes funny has his gadgets and everything else mark has expect for harley. In nolan wanted to do realistic batman. He choose the wrong villians. The penguin and the riddler are the 2 most realistic batman villians in the batman comics beside the different mafia gangs. The joker is very unrealistic. Even in the dark knight which had plot holes for a suppisedly realistic film. Batman is not suppose to be realistic but if it was trying for that the penguin would be the best one to do. The penguin and the riddler are just better characters more interesting especially on the show gotham

    • @oliverqueen9886
      @oliverqueen9886 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The penguin would have been a much better villian for a nolan film compared to the ones they choose in his 3 films. The only villians he got right were bane and scarecrow. The rest are so inaccurate way off from the source material

    I, as a person who grew up with the original Batman and has a massive nostalgia for the movie, can admit that The Dark Knight is a by far superior film. Christian Bale is a better Batman because Keaton just looks awkward in a suit. Yeah, Bale's voice is ridiculous, but at least he owned it, Keaton can't get over the fact that he's in a gigantic bat suit. Ledger's performance is probably the best in any comic book movie ever, so no doubt that he wins. The supporting cast is good in both, so whatever. Action is clearly superior in The Dark Knight. The plot seemed way more intense in The Dark Knight, not to say that Batman was boring. I can see all that through my nostalgia goggles, so come on.

    The only thing Batman has over The Dark Knight is Keaton. The overall cast, action and story is far superior in The Dark Knight. And I agree with the critic that Dark Knight is a bit of a character study, which why I find the story to be better; it's built on character and character dilemmas while being entertaining rather than just being entertaining.

      +karnak333 I completely disagree, the musical score of the 89 movie is far better than that of the Dark Knight, which, besides Keaton, is the main reason I prefer the 89 movie.
      Then again I always was more a music kind of person than a movie kind of person (I did like the less overly dramatic tone of the 89 movie better as well though).

      +Zarus Tyran Yeah, for some reason Bale had a cooler sounding voice in Batman Begins, I wish it carried on to the future films. I also think his costume looked cooler in the new movies, it looked technologically innovated and he could move his neck. On top of that, the mask is cooler in the new movies to, it just disguises the fact that it's Bale behind the mask. For some reason Keaton's mask failed in that regard, it was pretty easy to tell it was him.

    Ledger was goddamn fantastic in his role. Nicholson was fantastic as well, but Ledger pulled ahead.
    I just felt that Nicholson's Joker was more accurate to the Joker from the comics and was overall funnier than Ledger's take.
    However, Ledger practically invented a new Joker with so much effort and skill that he deserved the posthumous Oscar.
