Having come up in a depressed area I knew many poor folks, including my family. I was lucky because my folks made sure our Christmas was special. This song brings tears to my eyes even as I’m rocking out. The Kinks have many fun songs.
The Kinks are terrific! They've had dozens of hit songs over many, many decades. They've been around as long as The Rolling Stones! Thanks you crazy kids! Merry Christmas to you both! 😊
In my mind The Kinks can't miss. You may not love all of their songs but there's just something about their sound that makes each song at least have something interesting about it. Is it any wonder they make a great Christmas song? Ray Davies is one of my favorite songwriters, but let's give some love to brother Dave. His guitar always speaks loudly. Together they are the most underrated contributors to the British Invasion. All Hail The Kinks
As I wrote in the comments of the last Kinks reaction you did, the first Kinks reaction... The Kinks are the band that influenced almost every rock and punk rock band ever. This song, when I hear it, immediately transports me back in time. I was 12 yrs old in 1977 when this song was released and punk rock was in full force in New York and in LA and being in LA and into music and just getting a taste for punk and new music, The Kinks were edgy but still somewhat not too punk rock because they were an old school rock band from the 1960s but Father Christmas blew my mind and everyone else's at that time. It was so anti traditional Christmas and gritty and punk rock. I still love this song 45 yrs later. Its one of my top 5 Christmas songs of all times Thanks for doing a reaction video of this masterpiece
In this episode of Brad & Lex, Tis the season for that classic sound design only The kinks deliver like Santa's gifts. The straight forward message and upbeat rock punk drumstyle sets the mood for Lex to utilize her "sleigh rock bop" while Brad is moderately joyous in showing us his signature "side to side sway".
Great job, welcome to Kinksville, home to the best of the British Invasion bands. You can dig into the Kinks catalogue for years and find jewel after jewel. Amazing songs from the '60s into the early '90s (I'm most knocked out by their work in the '60s and '70s). Keep listening!
The kinks are my favorite band. Nice to see you guys enjoying all the Kinks songs you've reacted to. Most people don't realize how many good songs they have. Shangri-la, till the end of the day, and Berkeley Mews, would be good ones to react to.
Need to delve deeper into the Kinks Library, everyone does Lola and nothing else. Check out Do It Again, Sleepwalker, Superman, Low Budget, Catch Me Now I'm Falling, 20th Century Man, Victoria, Jukebox Music, Stop Your Sobbing, Till' The End Of The Day, Tired Of Waiting For You, Where Have All The Good Times Gone, etc, etc.
@@rubicon-oh9km included in etc, etc along with Destroyer, State of Confusion, Apeman, Come Dancing, Picture Book, Gallon of Gas, Misfits, Well Respected Man, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Sunny Afternoon, Celluloid Hero's.
Yeah this is a reminiscing song so yeah during The Hectic part of Christmas driving around trying to get things last minute shopping trying to get everybody covered for Christmas you know everything so hectic but you have the car radio on and this song would come on and it was kind of a nice break from the hectic condition of things so yeah it always made me feel so good to hear this song just a little glimmer of sanity alright you crazy kids Feliz Navidad
Great song that is relevant in my life every Christmas till his death my Uncle gave me money no toys no gift cards which I believe at the time didn't exist. Money. So everytime I hear this song I think of my Uncle George.
And that's how you make a PUNK christmas song. Funny and high-energy (Dave Davies just SHREDDING on the guitar) but reminding us of the true meaning of the holiday, caring for others, sharing our burdens. Brilliant. The Kinks had spent the previous five years in the USA, arguably becoming a parody of themselves. But here Ray Davies brings back the classic glories. Naturally, the next single took a shot at punks who were enjoying their minutes in the celebrity spotlight a little TOO much. "The Prince of the Punks" makes a great follow-up to this.
I'm sure the version you reference is quite angelic! My all-time favorite version if "Halleluah" is by the band Pain of Salvation, the version off of their On The Two Deaths Of Album. It get me teary-eyed and chilled every time I hear it. I would love to see Brad & Lex react to it! Been on my favorites list since it's release.
There Is NO NEED For A Lyric Video For This Classic & The Video For It Is An Absolute MUST SEE/HEAR/EXPERIENCE,, HERBIE HANCOCK "ROCKIT" (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO ONLY)..This One Will Definitely Hit You Different,, In The Best Of Ways!!
Lots of Americans don't know the best of The Kinks music because they did a tourin America, their manager abandoned them and then they were banned from America for 4 years during the height of Beatlemania! Lesser British bands became much more famous here, after The Kinks had had lots of top 10 hits in the early 60s in England, and opened for The Beatles, etc! They never gave up until the mid-1990s!
Ray Davies was married to Chrissie Hynde. Hynde was/is leader of the Pretenders who have a wonderful Christmas song called 2000 Miles. Plus, u guys need to do a few regular Pretenders songs, they'll knock u outta ur socks.
Not only a fantastic Xmas song, it is also a blueprint for any punk song.
You're just scratching the surface with this Kinks tune; great band with such a great song catalogue and legacy!
Some of their best music was overlooked in the States.
The greatest rock rabbit hole ever, enjoy the journey! I wish I was at the start again, I'm so jealous
The best xmas song by the best band in the world. LONG LIVE THE KINKS
Having come up in a depressed area I knew many poor folks, including my family. I was lucky because my folks made sure our Christmas was special. This song brings tears to my eyes even as I’m rocking out. The Kinks have many fun songs.
One of the best Christmas songs that was ever written! Thank you for sharing this one, you two...=)...The Kinks rock!
Ray Davies is one of the all-time great songwriters of the Rock era.
The only 😊
The Kinks are terrific! They've had dozens of hit songs over many, many decades. They've been around as long as The Rolling Stones! Thanks you crazy kids! Merry Christmas to you both! 😊
Their longest serving drummer, Mick Avory, played with the stones before Charlie Watt joined
The Kinks are scarey good. Ray wrote you really got me. There very mellow on the inside but rock on the outside. I get it!
THIS is THE best xmas song I've ever heard... Thanx so much for sharing it with us!

Kinks have soooo many great songs and sarcastic lyrics.
The Four stages of life:
1. You believe in Santa
2. You don't believe in Santa
3. You are Santa
4. You look like Santa
This is my #1 Christmas tune!. 🎄 the next song from The Kinks should be "Dedicated follower of Fashion" such an awesome tune. 👌
In this episode of Brad & Lex, Tis the season for that classic sound design only The kinks deliver like Santa's gifts. Growing up in the projects and having to struggle, I loved this song.....like "yeah, a song for us" kind of connection.
One of the all-time greats. Superb song structure, too!
Good choice. I love this song; it tells a great story with humor and poignancy. And it rocks…..
Kinks are a great band. They were kind of lost with all the craziness of the Beatles and Rolling Stones. They are still rocking.
Definitely nostalgic. Nothing like Christmas with a house full of Punk Rock Girls.
....they stole all my hats....lol
Christmas song with a good message.
"...but remember about the kids who got nothing, while you're drinking down your wine."
Oh! I love this song! I just heard it yesterday!♥️🎄
The kinks are my favorite band. Nice to see you guys enjoying all the Kinks songs you've reacted to. Most people don't realize how many good songs they have. Shangri-la, till the end of the day, and Berkeley Mews, would be good ones to react to.

Finally, the best Christmas song ever. Lol
I was born in the 80s and have memories of my mom singing this song in the car. is it a very nostalgic song for me.
Always been one of the catchiest Christmas songs ever made for me. I've always loved the message too, except for beating up poor Santa.
Lots of my nieces & nephews in high school told us no presents, just money please. I can relate. I was broke in high school even with summer jobs.
Awesome drumming here too
Mick Avory!
A fish is not a gift, it's a project. LOL

You would love "Halleluah" performed by a young Irish lady named Kaylee Rogers. The voice of an angel.

You will always learn something from a Kinks song
