Yes, Ray Davies has written some outstanding lyrics over the years. This is great. Another fantastic song with a similar theme is, Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed
No matter how many Lola reaction videos I watch, the girls are smiling and laughing and the guys start getting weird expressions and then start shaking their heads and laughing by the end.
Considering this was 1970, this is incredibly trans positive. They never question Lola’s attractiveness, or make fun of the MC for being attracted to her. Remember that this is the year after Stonewall. This song was way ahead of its time. And it’s just generally awesome. Another awesome one is Walk on the Wild Side by Lou Reed.
Yes, but there was also a brilliant out left in the lyrics just for the stiffs in parliament. "But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man, And so is Lola". Obviously we know what's meant, but if there was any official questioning... "of course not, Lola is simply glad he's a man as well." Then again, even that doesn't directly produce a sexual assignation. Bravo, wordplay.

The lyrics “… But I’m glad I am a man and so is Lola“ along with Lola squeezing him and almost breaking his spine, her deep prone voice, should all be clues as to what Lola was all about.
I was around 8 years old when this came out in England, didn't have a clue what it was about then but have always loved this song, groundbreaking in its day.
Awesome reaction you two! Yeah, this happens more than we know. I once took a friend to a "mixed bar" where a friend was playing piano.. and I was dating the cocktail waitress. The place was packed. In walked LOLA, but my friend didn't know and before I could say anything he was buying her a drink. I figured he was a grown man and could handle himself. He came back about 20 min later very red-faced and said, "Dude, we're leaving."
The song "Lola" by The Kinks was released in 1970. I was 14 and I really got into many of the British rock bands when they invaded America with their music in 1964. Now that we got into the gender bending songs try Lou Reed "take a walk on the wild side" Great song a true classic and way before its time!! Love your reactions, Keep em coming!!
I think Peter and the Test Tube Babies punked this up with 'Tranvestite'.
The Kinks are worth the deepest of Dives you've ever done! They laid out there, they tell the truth, they made the first rock operas, they rule the damn world goat! Ray and Dave Davies have always Rock My World! Dive deeper baby, you will not be disappointed!
Not sure lola was represented accurately with the cartoon blond lady....
Maybe it was from the point of view, early on, of the guy who "Lola" approached.
@@gj8683 so why not change the characteristics as the truth unfolded??? 😂
@@lennycook206 Yes, they didn't do that and they certainly should have.
@@gj8683 you don't have a clue what the songs about do you? hilarious
@@lennycook206 I agreed with you and then you tell me that I don't know what the song's about? Sorry that I even bothered. Now, go ahead, troll, and have your worthless final word.
As far as I remember, this was just highly rated as a great Kinks song, with their typical quality and originality - and Ray Davies' fantastic vocals! A fun tune, with a message that really, 50 years later or so, shouldn't need any explanation. It's a bit sad that it sometimes does. If you're not familiar, please check out Waterloo Sunset. Think of a bridge over the river Thames in London and a young couple in love on the bridge while the sky is full of the colours of the setting sun. It's so sweet! ❤❤
I'll take "Songs that could never be published today" for $1000, Alex.
I laughed so hard at this😂 “Do you think they would go around telling people?” 😂 Touché;)
Aerosmith has dude looks like a lady. Steven Tyler wrote when he tried to hit on Vince Neil of motley crue when Vince back was turn.
Lex I loved the light in your eyes when it hit you what the song is about. Priceless.
He sings how he'd never kissed a woman before. Sad thing is, after all this, he still hadn't kissed a woman.
Oh, you have to check out, "Superman" by The Kinks! It's my favorite workout song!
I could see Lex going crazy dancing to the beat!
