Wow, such an amazing film... The best hiking documentary I've seen in a while!! I was on Lake O'Hara last year August and it was snowing. Nice to see what it looks like in good weather!
Your videos are really great Luke. I went down the rabbit hole this week and watched a lot of them. Thanks for the work that you do, for taking care of our land, and for highlighting what BC has to offer for the world to see. Keep doin' you 🤙
Nice hike , I did it a few years ago but started at lake Louise , then fuhrmann ledge , then past the hut ( incredible to see ) and down to lake ohara making sure not to miss the last bus It was aewsome
Thanks Luke for an awesome documentary. Your passion and respect for the Rockies and it’s history is palpable and so appreciated. I did the majority of my hiking in the 80s before the technology we have now and I never recorded anything. I had a the privilege of staying at Abbot hut in August 1987. Went up in a blinding blizzard. I loved seeing you enjoy your meal inside. Wow. It helped me remember. Thank you, Jeff
Very nicely documented adventure. I failed miserably in 2013 abandoning the hike just after two switchbacks on the spur trail to lake Osea that further leads to the iconic hut. Essentially, I was not fit at that time. Later on, I cultivated a habit of walking 10 km/day (in an hour or less) and in 2016, I succeeded in reaching there very comfortably . Planning to go again.
One of my favorite huts to visit. It's been a while but it still looks great! Going to the outhouse at night can be a sketchy proposition if you've had one too many bevies, lol! Was hoping to get on the Ohara bus this past summer with COVID reducing the international tourist load to the parks but they closed it down altogether so fingers crossed this summer they will be back in service again; Otherwise, back to Tofino I guess. lol!
Great Vid! Managed to make it up to the hut twice while I lived out there! The Hut is unfortunately shut down due to a landslide, still no word on if/when it will reopen
Moshi you really missed an awesome place...I used to live in Edmonton and every spare few days I had was in the mountains hiking and climbing! Abbotts pass hut was one of the best huts that I have ever seen! Such a beautiful place!!😎
Just got back from Lake Ohara, watched your video before and after. Unfortunately, we got rained out most of the first day and after backpacking Assiniboine for 5 days, we were a little tired at Ohara. haha Anyway, can't wait to go back, we were able to hike prospector ledge and loop back the West and East Obapin trails the second day, before another storm came in. Will have to back and explore more!
Yo Luke! I always enjoy your vids.... and i gotta say this one on the Abbott Pass Hut is close to my heart as I missed booking it for Aug 2017. All's fully booked by the time i got thru to the tel.line. I have not been there and it has always been in my bucket list.
Hey Melvyn! Ah that's too bad you couldn't get a spot! We were there for 2 nights and the second night there was lots of room, only 5 of us total in the hut. That was in early July. I hope you get the chance to go and see it next year!
My friends and I were supposed to hike into Assiniboine August long this year (so about 3 weeks ago) but due to the BC wild fires we had to look elsewhere. On Thursday we were able to book one night at Abbot Hut for the next day from Friday to Saturday for 4 people due to last minute cancellations! Keep checking and who knows what will open up! It was amazing! There was barelyyyy any snow on the way up when I went though
So, on your walking group shots, how do you get the filming done? Do you go back n forth and get the camara? Good filming work for a 1 man crew Speilberg
lifeofluke Don't look down... Don't stare at your feet ..just look beyond them...and look straight ahead when your sure of your footing....works for me. Cheers
How long did you try to get Bus Tickets because it's seems like being a bit of a lottery to get these Tickets.. Watching you running and sliding down the bolder and the snow fields without hiking poles scared me to be honest... Aint scared about starting avalanches? Nevertheless great Video! Awesome views and great weather
Luke this is a really a sensational Vlog of this climb to the hut. You vlogged it in a fantastic way..its like your right there with you guys. This is so Nat Geo....no wait its better than that...keep on doin it Great stuff. Emma is seriously 🔥 hot ....sorry had to say it. Cheers folks.
Wow, such an amazing film... The best hiking documentary I've seen in a while!! I was on Lake O'Hara last year August and it was snowing. Nice to see what it looks like in good weather!
Thanks so much Anni! Ya the weather can change so quick up there! Bet it was beautiful though!
I like how each segment is composed.
Beautiful place, great memories 👍. I went to the hut several times in the early 80's

A blizzard would have been tough! Thanks for watching Jeff

Yes, it definitely is! Thanks Jennifer!

Absolutely wonderful tour of this iconic Canadian location! Excellent production!!
Thank you Michael!

Thanks Jonathan! Ya, I don't know when they will get that slope stabilized...
they have taken down the hut ..... what a sad moment for us ..... i regret not going to that place despite living in Calgary ..... :(
Very sad indeed! I'll miss that beautiful hut!

@@florencesmith3415 ... i know ... :( ... and i just moved to a boring place for work .... Ottawa ... :(
I am lucky enough to live in New Zealand now...watching that video made me homesick for 🇨🇦! Sorry that you are living in Ottawa. Hahaha
@@lifeofluke Luke your documentary is now a timeless treasure. Well done.
I cant wait until i can do this hike. Keep the great videos coming
Thanks!

That's awesome, I'm glad you got to experience a little bit of it at least!
Cheers, great footage. Haven't been yet to Abbot Pass.
Thanks Adrian! It's an incredible spot!
Fantastic, I definitely need to head up there!
If you get the chance I highly recommend it!
Thank you luke ,,great effort
Thanks David!
awesome!
Very surprised your channel doesn’t have more views and subscribers. Props on the dope vids!
Thanks Torey!
Scary nice😁
Good looking dinner and 3 litres of wine. Nicely done. Did u drink it all ? It always snows when I go to Lake O Hara.
Of course!
awesome channel bro!! i've been meaning to hike up to Abbot Pass. I'm prolly gonna book a trip next year.
Thanks Joel! I hope you get up there!
Aventureiros que lugar mais lindo
A bit surprised that you didn't carry ice axes for the steep snow sections.
This hut has been closed since 2018, and will soon fall due to erosion ☹️
Yep, that's pretty sad news.
Wow this was amazing! I definitely subscribed.
Thanks!
@@lifeofluke I'm hoping to get permits this summer! I already scored Assiniboine Permits, so I am stoked!
Another sweet video man!
Thanks Bradley!
another beautiful video luke! What camera do you use? and how many batteries do you take to be able to do all those timelapses?
Thanks Ian! I use the sony a7s with 5 batteries. That's a good point, I'll have to do a video about my camera gear soon!

lifeofluke thanks so much for your reply, Luke. It amazes me how you ever get through the line to get your campground bookings done. Cheers Luke

I really want to camp at Assiniboine too! ...some day!
Good stuff. How did you shoot the waterfalls? 24/30/60 fps? They look smooth.
Thanks Matt! I shot the waterfalls in 60fps
Awesome, then you slowed down the video I think. Got a link or info on what cameras you use for video?
really awesome man, when did you do this hike?
Thanks! It was early July.
Love your vids
Thanks Brad!
sick video, neat spot
Thanks!
lifeofluke bc is the most beautiful place I've ever been, so awesome
Sad to hear it’s gona be deconstructed…
Yep, same here
vocês são o máximo amei
Obrigado Irineia!
Just curious. I am not into photography. How do you capture your hike from so far, and you all three in the frame? Did you use drone?
Set camera up on tripod, then hike away, and go back to retrieve camera again.
@@lifeofluke That must be a lot of travel back and forth. Practically, after covering so much distance, that too on slop, must be very tiring.
Did you encounter the hut rat?
luckily we did not
So, on your walking group shots, how do you get the filming done? Do you go back n forth and get the camara? Good filming work for a 1 man crew Speilberg
I set up the camera on a tripod, press record, do the shot, then run back and pick up the camera
@@lifeofluke So, I as thought, You are doing a lot more walking then your companions.
Yep, I call it bonus cardio
Trying to do this this summer, but am scared of heights. Any advice on conquering?
If you go up Abbot Pass I'd say you're well on your way to conquering your fear of heights! It would be a challenge for sure!
lifeofluke Don't look down... Don't stare at your feet ..just look beyond them...and look straight ahead when your sure of your footing....works for me.

I think, bus is booked automatically, if you have booking for the hut.

I think Emma will like to hear that, haha
lifeofluke Haha Awesome Luke..
Keep up the great work.
Lol Yes tell her please.
Cheers good mate.
lifeofluke Hello again Luke
Can you tell me please what is the best time to hike the Abbot Pass Hut .
Cheers again
Many thanks
The best time would be July or August because most of the snow will have melted by then.
lifeofluke Thanks Luke
Safe travels mate..Don't stop making great vids
Cheers
I wanna know who humped those firewood rounds up there.
The ACC flies firewood up by heli, and that's why it costs $35/person/night
Its a shame they are going to tear it down, refuge for hikers for years.
Agreed, it is a very big loss and I'm sad to hear that!
I am so sad to hear about this...so many great memories of this place!
was that a flat earth sweat shirt??
no helmet hardcore!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha! I now have a helmet for future trips!
what month did u guys go to this amazing hike?
early July
Would you suggest a helmet after doing it? Going next month
It's definitely safer with a helmet, it's up to you
subded wth pleasure mate!
Thanks so much!
