- After over 1000 hours spread over 2 years, this hack is finally ready to be released. This is my first pit hack, it is very long and features many obscure tricks and glitches. Don't let the intro message fool you: To have a shot at beating this, you need take full advantage of your emulator tools and know the ins and outs of smw.

Oh boy, 28 minutes of pure madness. This is no doubt the best pit hack I've ever seen, in my opinion. Every room is extremely creative, and some rooms use glitches i didn't know about. I wasn't expecting you to make a room with the yellow yoshi/shell stun glitch, so i was pretty surprised to see that implemented in a hack.
I'm honestly honored to be put in the credits of this masterpiece. Seeing a TAS of this will be extremely interesting for sure
never thought pit hacks would raise the bar any higher, but here it is! every glitch ever in one hack (more or less)

What the hell is going on
Ever since the sneak peak from a few months back, I've been eagerly awaiting this release. So glad to see it finally come out, congrats!

This pit is absolutely everything!
The glitch catalog is perfect, the level design is incredibly clever, the graphics are stunning, the background musics are on point, the TAS execution is marvelous.

Although I failed to express my opinion on this hack when it was released, I feel as though it is not too late to come back and write a little message of praise.
Armageddon is most definitely one of my favourite SMW “Pit” hacks to ever be published; it is certainly very challenging, yet it manages to be absurdly clever and creative with its setups and gimmicks. Despite the difficulty being far out of my TASing abilities, I still think overall this hack is wonderful, and I applaud Dacin for being able to create it.
The standard by which all future pit hacks will be judged...
And found wanting.
Also, real gamers always do their keysurfing in lava :)

I have no idea what is going on.
It’s been a few years since this came out and it left me wondering the following questions.
Which level was your favorite to make?
Which level was your favorite to play test?
What drove you to make this a “2 player” game (using both bros), where the goal for Mario was to die quickly (until Armageddon!) and for Luigi to die after hitting a switch in Armageddon? (And dying that last time)?
Outside of those questions, this was a really cool hack to watch, very entertained and wasn’t expecting a Reznor kill to close out the rom hack
I think this is the best hack ever, not just pit hack.

I just did the first part of this as a joke, but once I successfully did it, I decided I'm going to commit the entire hack. Wml

But WTF happened at 21:18?
Also, there's a typo at 26:13. "ShadowDragon121" is correct. And it's "qantuum" at 27:12.
21:18 is the invisible warp hole sprite.
yeah those arrowed glass blocks don't do anything, they just indicate the presence of sprite 8E (invisible warp hole), same thing at 25:12
Also thanks for pointing out the typos, I'm sure there's more of them. (I'm not the best at spelling to begin with, and having to do it by copy pasting single tiles doesn't help either.)
Not 21:18, 21:17! Sorry. The garbled sprite.
You yoshify the bullet bill, which makes Luigi ride it for a frame. This warps the bullet bill to Luigi (similar to the suicide swap glitch with a powerup). Apparently this results in some glitched graphics.
(You also need another small trick to make that jump, but I won't spoil that.)
If you plan to update, some more typos to fix: sokobansolver at 26:45, and GreenHammerBro at 27:20.
Side note, GHB now goes by the name HammerBrother, though everyone still seems to refer to him as GHB.

I'm surprised I don't know what's happening at 23:01. This was also a great pleasure to see this way of proceeding. 😆
If a fast auto scroller reaches the end of the level, it will continue scrolling anyways. The graphics of layer 1 / layer 2 will loop, but their interaction won't. The same thing happens at 21:46, but there your x-speed overflows and you get snagged by the left screen border.

i noticed some typos in the credits that i haven't seen mentioned yet.
26:19 "cataclysmn" -> "cataclysm"
26:32 "explainig" -> "explaining"
26:32 "a ton glitches" -> "a ton of glitches" (not a typo, but a grammatical error)

Also thanks for pointing out these typos. I definitely had that "of" at some point; I must have accidentally pasted "glitches" over it when moving stuff around.
As silly as it is now, I've noticed more typos. "Inspired by" at 26:11 lacks the second i, and "Special Thanks" at 26:20 contains an extra c.
And I have an unhealthy addiction to this TAS. I can't seem to leave it alone. I also can't praise it enough.

been following smw for years. obviously pit and kaizo is different, but man i alrdy learned something new in the first 90 seconds. never knew you can diagonal clip with springboards lol

Now that you've finished the hack, can you perhaps consider tackling The Pit Level? The first one. Yeah, it's unfinished, but there's a Brazilian TAS beating my time, which made the hack possible to finish.
The Brazilian TAS already does a reznor break, so I don't really see anything interesting I could add to the TAS.

if you don't die after hitting the switch, you "beat" the level, which causes you to walk on the overworld...
...forever (i.e. you get softlocked).

would you consider having a 'commentary' track that explains notable glitches going on at parts? would be nice for people who want some insight into some of the stuff going on (not to mention even as someone who's done tons of ASM there's some stuff here that i can't understand :v). Perhaps could be done with a closed caption track or something, obviously it's your right to choose to spend time on something like that but i think it could be cool if you feel like you'd want to

Some of the tricks in this hack are very technical and best explained with images, so I don't think I could explain them well in closed captions.

if you jump on the first possible frame, the camera won't scroll up. There's a limit to how far above the camera you can be. This allows you to get past the tripple spike gate if the camera is at the correct vertical position.
