whoever thought of “from the workshop floor” is a genius. I love all the team but i don’t really do DIY like that. It’s the personality of each person here that makes me stay. And seeing all that personality in one video? Amazing.
Okay not as a buyer, but as a seller! I had this absolutely bonkers lady arrange to pick up something from my mom. She’s not very tech savvy, so I’m her dedicated Marketplace co-ordinator, but in being the point of contact, I’m not always home when someone is picking up. Our address for whatever reason, was literally the Bermuda Triangle, no one ever could find our house. So this woman texts like, “Hi, I’m here, but no one’s home and your dog is barking at the door.” I very calmly and politely explain, “Oh you must be at the wrong house, we don’t own a dog. Our address is … you’re probably at the townhouses across the street, they have similar numbers.” She dead ass with her whole chest replies, “No, I’m at the correct address, you do have a dog, it’s barking at me.” MA’AM. The audacity to think you know more about a person than said person.
Love from the workshop floor. “Burl” is actually an infection in the tree that causes it to make that bulb like shape. It can happen in any type of tree I think
Potential name ideas could be "Face to Face" because it's a competition. Or "Two-faced Marketplace" because you guys need to trick each other but also because people on marketplace can be trolls haha. Loving this series!
Thank you for commenting on it! I was about to go and check the other videos to see if it had always been there since they didn't even mention it in the video 😂
ALL CROCHET IS MADE BY HAND!! There are only little machines that can make scarves, but other than that EVERYTHING has to be hand made because no one's made a machine that can crochet better than a person
Yes! So never ever buy super cheap crochet stuff unless it’s secondhand because otherwise you know for certain you’re contributing to exploiting workers in bad conditions 😢
Yes, however, there is a lot of stuff that is actually machine embroidery that kind of looks like crochet, that is sold like crochet. It isn't crochet, but because it is made with either thick cotton thread or cotton lookalike and mimics the stitches many people will call it crochet (including the manufacturers). I don't know enough about crochet to be able to tell whether something is a legit stitch or not, so I wouldn't be able to distinguish them at a glance. Often there will be a bobbin thread as well as the thicker thread.
So little info on Burl, it's not a type of tree, technically any tree can form burl, but burl wood is formed when a tree develops a mutation, usually from an outside stressor like an infection or injury. In response to the stress, the tree’s grains grow in a different way than the rest of the trunk, forming a growth, twisting and interlocking with itself, and forming the swirls its known for
that stained glass book lamp is not handmade, it’s on my local marketplace and you can tell it’s drop shipped because you only see 1 angle of the lamp always
It’s on Amazon, Walmart, home depot, bed bath and beyond, aliexpress, etc. and it’s always the same photo or very similar photos. I don’t know who originally made it, but it’s about $140 at Home Depot, $90 at BB&B, and about $20 everywhere else….
hey girlsss!!! I'm a silent viewer and I never comment but I must admit that I look forward to your videos every week! they're my favourite go-to videos to watch!
17:49 I see this scam all the time!! It’s always so disappointing because I get excited about the pieces 😭 the easiest way to tell if it’s a scam: 1) if the price is too good to be true 2) if the seller’s FB profile was created in 2024 and/or 3) if the description says they’re getting rid of it because they’re “downsizing” (most common) or they go into a lot of detail about how long they’ve had it and why they’re getting rid of it. Like Anne said, reverse image search is your friend!!! That’s how I find them - usually a Craigslist listing from four states away will pop up with the exact same pictures 😂 just keep reporting them every time you see them!
The IKEA Art Event happens I think every year and the items are sold in most stores! They are usually pretty weird pieces but there’s usually one or two stand out pieces.
Hey Ladies, I adore this series, “From the Workshop Floor”. I look forward to each vid. Funny with a look into design that I can relate to. I’m a fan.🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Ikea had those lamps in store for a little while lol. The art event is an annual thing where they bring in a handful of designers to make a few pieces in collaboration with Ikea, and then sell them for a couple months
I want that 2hite porcelain cat! My mom had a pair of these when I was growing up. Seeing it instantly brought back memories of her. She gave me her love for cats...Miss you and love you mom ❤🐈🐾
Did she make her pair? My mom made ours in ceramic class. These forms were available and she got to choose eye color and fur glaze color.she loved her white cat with blue eyes.
@@kathyaakananabluebird Not that I know of. Just remember them being there. They had a pearl finish to them. Not sure what happened to them. They are long gone now though lol
Burl is actually a mutation that can happen in any wood! That’s why it looks so funky. Also crochet had to be made by hand; knitting can be done by machines but crochet can’t!
I have been a fan of your channel for ever. I truly want to see more of you and Becky. My favorites when you and Becky work on a project together or videos about your homes. Also when do we get and up date on Becky’s Van
I know someone has already commented, but burl is not a kind of tree, it's the growth of wood on any tree. It's calloused by some sort of infection that causes the wood to create a growth, but because it's still wood it creates really interesting grain patterns. Usually you see burl pieces that are round (think coffee table) because the growths are more spherical in shape. They're also commonly used to create veneers. I would highly recommend taking a furniture history class if you can (Rochelle) where you can learn more context for your woodworking interests!
In theme with the garnish book. When I was a bartender in my early 20s I had a few bouncers from Tokelau (they were all family). On my 21st birthday the mum brought into work the most beautifully detailed carved watermelon. Flowers and leaves. It was gorgeous. She poured inside a watermelon coconut drink called otai. It was amazing. Honestly google Tokelau Otai and watermelon carving.... just beautiful. ❤❤❤❤❤ will never forget.
You should do a version of this where you all buy something off market place for Rachel's new apartment. You have to guess what people bought, and then Rachel has to guess who bought the item for her.
I DIYd ceiling fan pulls, from my own imagination, but I finished it, and it looked like $80 CB2. I did think, but how much did that actually cost in materials? And it was $25, but I know you could get the price lower if you didn't buy supplies online, but I'm fairly house bound. I added about 18 inches of ball chain so I could reach, and used large geometric wooden beads to hide the chain segments. They gently sway with the breeze, and I love it.
Fun fact: Burl is not a species of tree but rather a deformity. It can happen from a variety if reasons (genetic, bug infestation, environmental) and there's typically no way to know if a tree is burl for sure without cutting it open. That's why any burl deformed wood is so expensive because it is extremely rare and can't be replicated!
My mom made that exact white cat with blue eyes in the 1960 in a ceramic class. My brother has it in his garden. I found one here where I live 1700 mile away at a garage sale ---made by another lady, My white cat is in my house now. In honor of my mom. :)
IKEA did actually sell those allen key lamps. I bought a chrome flashlight version for my spouse. The Art 20## are special limited quantity pieces sold at the stores.
I had a radio that was a dog, a stuffed white poodle sitting on all fours. It was vintage, 45 years ago. 🐩 And plastic piano phone whose keys played while depressing them to make a phone call. 🎹
Love the series! My marketplace story: i needed a new dresser, ans found a beautiful vintage set of dressers in a city abour 3 hours drive away. Unfortunately i only have a small vehicle, so I needed to find someone with a truck i could borrow. I kept in touch with the seller, let them know i was 100% willing to buy them provided i could get transportation, and finally got everything organized so i could come pick up the items, and then they ghosted me, and marked the listing aa pending. I was so disappointed! Anyway, I ended up finding a different dresser much closer to me, and it fit into my small car, so i guess it ended alright.
I love hanging out with you ladies I smiled the entire time. Great fun thanks for sharing it with us. Love that Roshi got the potato but I was thinking the lip phone and I totally want one now i used to have the lip couch.

So at 21:00 y’all were talking about landlines working with cell phones and they can in a way but not the way that I would love to make that old lips phone work. At our office, I can transfer the phone lines to my cell phone if I don’t want to work at the office that day and let’s says obviously the dr is out. I think a lot of people forget about landlines being a thing so thank you for bringing these lips into the picture. I've also seen it on my fb marketplace in Australia so definitely either stolen or drop ship.
