I liked the very fact that the short "Emperor's Legion" series gave us insight to how the Custodians weren't above leaving the place and keeping an eye on things. So if they've been there, where else may they have gone? That's a whole slew of lore and potential novels we could get. I mean who doesn't want to read about a Custodian cutting in half a Tau Crisis Suit in a one on one duel?
This is a really interesting idea. They're willing to do it, they have access to the best intelligence telling them what's going on and where as fast as anyone else in the Imperium, and each and every one of them is a brilliant strategist and tactician, so why wouldn't they be present at all of the most consequential hot spots? They're already looking out for consequential people that don't even know how or why they're going to someday be consequential. While the Custodes can feasibly know where to be and be able and willing to get there, their biggest limitation is that they're precious few at a galactic scale and the loss of any single one of them is a devastating blow, so they can't necessarily get directly involved or interfere in all of the most consequential hot spots. You could basically have a Custodes book for every major conflict talking about how they predicted, monitored, selectively and surgically applied force in exactly the way it was needed, even if it was somewhere far away and in advance of a pivotal battle, to give the Imperium the best chance of success
There's probably thousands of them scattered on important worlds. AFAIK they stop being custodians as soon as their abilities start to show some decline, no?
@@Lyonatan Depends, from what fluff says they don't leave only on extreme cases. The POV character Valiaran was shocked that the Captain-General left, didn't know where he went or why his armor was in ruins in the first book. Then there's other examples but it seems they don't leave or if they do its secret even from themselves. Their skills do but its loosely played with. Valdor left because his entire world broke down, perhaps one or 2 other mentioned but mostly they remain active. (blood games, tranining, etc)

It would probably be better if they go to war with each other. Are you really telling me that the Inquisition is going to be happy with not knowing what is going on in the black cells below the palace? The two groups are too similar and the Imperium and Inquisition are extremely suspicious of groups which often can and will do disastrous things if left unchecked. A Valorus vs Drago situation would also be lore gold as well. Who would stop the Custodes if they need to be stopped?
@@UncleMikeDrop The Adeptus Custodes have a special sort of enmity reserved for the Grey Knights.... Cypher in the book Decent of angels is like a historian of the chapter . Zahariel also a Darj angel kills a calabanite lion on Caliban , same as Lionel Johnson , only 2 men have killed a lion as the best hunt concludes through the book . A new cypher is appointed . If you are interested it’s a great book focus on the time before they get contacted by the real astartes dark angels then the emperor. Highly recommended
I agree with you on the codices, and their lack of lore / info / maps / timeline / heraldry. I blame GW and their new "Everything is canon, lore does not matter, make it your own !" attitude. Previously, you could either follow the lore, or do your own thing. Now, you do your own thing, or...... well..... There was already room from everyone and everything before. No one forced anyone to follow the markings / colors. Now it just feels lazy.
Knowing Trayzn's proclivities, I would be shocked if he had not collected Valdor. 9/10 that was the Custodian he popped out of his collection. And getting Valdor back would be huuuuuge. He'd spend any resource to acquire him.
