The wrong way, and the right way to install PL259 connectors.

    A short seems like a scary situation to have. Do you know if the Yaesu rigs have short protection on the output? I run a FTdx10 to be specific and am presently using a solder on PL connector that I’m not really proud of.
    Also, how much loss do you think is suffered when using a SO/PL connection versus the N connection, and also versus the cheap PL/SO connectors versus the Amphenol connectors?doesn’t all that heat when soldering the braid to the connector barrel and reducer cause melting of the coax dielectric material and thereby affect the impedance of the cable at that location? And then again, when you add the heat shrink, doesn’t that affect the characteristic impedance of the transmission line at that location?

    Is that coax designed to withstand those tight radius turns you have on that toroid? My understanding is that you don’t want to exceed the rated bend radius of a coax otherwise you change its characteristic impedance..
