🛠 Throttle Pump aka Transient Throttle Enrichment Explained | TECHNICALLY SPEAKING

    In this video we unravel one of the mysteries of tuning; the often talked about but rarely understood dark art of tuning the Throttle Pump, or as we call it here at Haltech - the Transient Throttle Enrichment function.
    Have you ever driven a car that runs fairly well under steady-state conditions, but when you mash the throttle quickly the engine coughs a splutters before eventually taking off again. The most likely explanation for that happening is the incorrect setup of - yes you've guessed it - the Transient Throttle Enrichment.

    Synchronous is extending the programmed injector pulse, asynchronous is immediately pulsing all of the injectors at once. Both of which can be combined (which is pretty cool.)

    • @bryarhattabaugh7313
      @bryarhattabaugh7313 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope to be even half as smart as you are on tuning/etc. I don’t even understand why you would want that in the tune the asynchronous I mean, I thought each injector has a small window of time to open, but now it just makes me think🤣😂

      @wobblysauce 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bryarhattabaugh7313 You can spray the injector at any time... though you normally get best results just before intake valve opening/same time.

The most likely explanation for that happening is the incorrect setup of the Transient Throttle Enrichment (also known as Throttle Pump). And that's the subject of today's video.

      Would it be possible to have an adaptive e-throttle, slowing down the blade-movement under the mentioned contitions, airtemp, RPM ... instead of using any enrichment, when shooting for best emmisions in all cases?
      Do direct-injected cars need throttle-enrichment at all?

    Synchronous is when then pulse of the next injector to be fired is extended, usually used in a sequential injection setup. Asynchronous is when all injectors are fired immediately for an extended pulse when the throttle is stabbed.

  • @mastermatt289

    Synchronous is when you extend the next injector cycle and Asynchronous is when you add fuel right away

    Surprised: 'Fuel Film Modelling' didn't make it into NSP. I really like that way to tune transient throttle conditions that way on the Adaptronic line of ECU's.
    Andy's PRI talk for a few years back tackled this topic from a very different angle.
    At the end of the day, if the engine runs right. Doesn't matter what magic is used behind the curtain to get the result😁👍

  • @BentonL

    I know the diesels work differently(you step on the fuel not air), but I have a similar experience under certain conditions. I notice if I back off the throttle for a split second and hit it again the engine pulls way harder. Would this be the same thing?
    I see this happen on both gas and diesel engines. This is an over simplification of what I am trying to explain but hopefully enough.

    Sometimes when I shift a gear and it's not perfectly smooth my engine will kinda stutter for a bit before getting ahold of itself. With the clutch fully engaged, it takes a bit before I can really start to accelerate. The clutch isn't slipping, the engine just isn't making any power.
    Does this video correlate to the problem I'm seeing?
    Edit: when I go from 0 to 100% thorttle whilst in gear the engine responds as expected. This only happens when changing gears. The throttle is driven by cable. Not electric

    Here i am again, 2 years later to ask a question on this topic.
    You're supposed to tune the acceleration Enrichment after you tune the VE table... How do you know when you have the VE table tuned well enough to start working on the AE? Is it when you no longer have a stumble on tip-in anywhere in the VE table?
