+hayleypdowd Me too. The sad part is there's a lot of truth to the song. Women had so few opportunities in that generation and leaving an abusive relationships was incredibly difficult (not to suggest that its easy now).
Ann Emery is one of the most extraordinary people I've ever seen performing. Especially in the theatre - she's magnetic! "Where's me pasty!" *much sniggering*
Ann Emery never fails to make me smile with true joy. I pray that her soul has continued a journey onto perfection with will allow her glow to grace this world again.
i went to see this last week, tanner played billy it was brilliant!!!!!!!!!i'd reccomend any1 whose lukin 4 a show 2 go 2 this is it!!! bit more expensive than the other shows but it was worth it,
@SoccerLoverJay this was on a TV show called The Sound Of Musicals. They were guest performers and in the stage show it is made much more dream-like, they were obviously limited with the set. Still the performance is stunning
Only In Musical Theatre Could There Be A Situation Like This But I Love It. I Think Grandma (Apart From Billy) Has To Be The Best Character In The Show With Her Pasties From Co Op!
i saw it at the victoria palace on the 13/11/08 and we did a workshop with person who played swing and learnt the finale dance it was fantastic fox played billy
ANN EMERY is fantastic! Nobody plays grandma likes her. it brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this act, and I have seem many other ones. So hurry up and get to see her on stage again as ANN EMERY is back to The West End playing Billy's grandma.
I find it interesting the different actor's different portrayals of this story. I really like the different styles of acting and even the slightly different lines and actions. I love that new actors can come in to a story already told so well and make it their own and make a new experience for new audiences.
I haven't read the previous comments but I want to say thank you for posting this. The actress (who's name I don't know) playing grandma is truly perfect. Her talent fills th stage . wow....... and why aren't we adult enough to hear the word shit???
She captures the pathos, the dizzying madness of an abusive but addictive relationship drifting with the currents of povertyand does it all while dancing and singing
Yes an extraordinary performance, but lets not forget the writing, and choreography. This lyric captures two themes rarely addressed in song, and some very vivid characters. The slow moving foreward of the men, with their chairs in a bar, and then dancing with Emery as if the memory were dreamlike and surreal. the cumulative and collaborative talents of the performer, the lyricist and the choreographer make this a memorable and multi-layered work of art.
i wached a show some frieds were in at teh regent theater in hanly stoke, and they had thsi scene beautifull! they had grnadma as a young girl liek you were in her mind wilst the ol done was there too then she dnaced with her husband old :') was so sad and beautifuly done
idk where this is, but in my opinion, the Broadway production was so much better! The lights and setting made everything seem dream-like- you felt like you were actually there. The way the lights are here makes it more difficult to believe the shift from "real life" to reminiscing.
Good luck and you should definitely! Its never a bad thing to put a video up and get opinions, its a great way to work out good habits and bad habits that you cant always hear in your own voice. Keep listening ;D x
Same Grandma different Billys she adapts her appoach to scenes depending on the actor like all great performers do It's so different this version from the proshot version
I do have to agree with what many people have said, the way the Broadway production is staged (especially as far as grandma's song goes) is far superior.
After she says "Not him at all!" I can't understand much (except the song). Could anybody write here what do they say, please? It's just that I don't speak English :/... Thank you for your help!^^
Haha my pleasure. Your English seems good, don't worry some people who have spoken English their entire lives have trouble understanding the Geordie accent.
i always burst into tears when she goes "and i'd be ME for an entire LIFE"
+hayleypdowd Me too. The sad part is there's a lot of truth to the song. Women had so few opportunities in that generation and leaving an abusive relationships was incredibly difficult (not to suggest that its easy now).
RIP Ann Emery the best Grandma ever
This, this is the show-stealer right here. And all of the songs in this musical are great.
Ann Emery is one of the most extraordinary people I've ever seen performing. Especially in the theatre - she's magnetic!
"Where's me pasty!" *much sniggering*

idk where this is, but in my opinion, the Broadway production was so much better! The lights and setting made everything seem dream-like- you felt like you were actually there. The way the lights are here makes it more difficult to believe the shift from "real life" to reminiscing.

I have to sing this song in a concert. I have no idea how I'm gonna do the accent.
Same Grandma different Billys she adapts her appoach to scenes depending on the actor like all great performers do It's so different this version from the proshot version
I do have to agree with what many people have said, the way the Broadway production is staged (especially as far as grandma's song goes) is far superior.
