    Not once has an anime scene made me literally cry from the fear of it. The whole rumbling sequence was just too perfect, I felt like I was running among the helpless civilians. Like I was in hell... Hayashi proves that once again he is goated and no one should ever doubt him

    The team behind this really weren't lying when they said they wanted this to feel cinematic.
    Of course, with the runtime alone it already feels larger scale but the fact that they even went out of their way to give each shot that cinematic touch to it really helped with immersion.
    Also really glad you mentioned that moment with Zeke. I actually had to rewatch it a couple times to even see how they pulled off such a smooth transition. Just the fact that they got one of the worst looking CG titans to look amazing is a testament to how far they went with the visuals.
    If this is the level of quality that we can expect for the finale, it'll probably be more than enough to make up for some of the compromises they had to make during Part 1.

    9/10 overall, when it's really good you need to appreciate it. Nice animation, nice creative choice of color, approach, the music, the voice when Eren told to Ramzi it just so fking good and so many things good in this one hour episode. big thx to Yuichiro Hayashi as the director, and my man you really need to sleep. The freedom panel one was a little bit off but I'm ok with it
    They are a lot of Taiwanese Animators for Hange vs Collosal fight like Q Kawa( everyone should know this or 邱家和), 曾信雄 the one who animate Hange on fire, 姚杰善 the first Hange flying to colossal, the special effect of bombs explosions and Zeke turning into Titan(超级豆仁) and many more animators, I really appreciate they giving all out

    Yeah I agree with you this episode was my favorite with the animation and ost. I loved how the rumbling was depicted with the horror and desperation of people. Also, the cgi models for the colossals was really impressive considering they went close up to them during the Hange scene and looked 2d at times in the close up. How would you rank this part to other AOT parts and how would you rank it among other MAPPA works?

      Idk if this is an unpopular opinion, but I think this was the second best installment of aot, second only to season 1. As for overall mappa shows, I don't think this looks better than csm or rage of bahamut, so around the number 3 spot I think...

    • @ProbablyPretentious
      @ProbablyPretentious  ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I have explained my reasons in a video, firstly s2 has less action compared to S1, and wit's aot team was not good at non action storyboards and rarely featured any character acting, so a lot of episodes felt dull, visually. The armoured titan was limited because of the design upgrade (although much better than s3 pt 2) and the colossal had some wonky moments, compared to that, S1 was just...perfect wasn't it?

    For me the only thing that puts S1 above this part is the rough edges throughout the scenes. S1 is pretty much perfect animation-wise (though looking back WIT's art style look too 'cartoony' to me).
    The sad part is that this part has some of the series's best character acting (as has been the case for a lot of MAPPA's animation). But at least people will realise that MAPPA can do good animation after the amazing ODM scenes.

    • @thebonfireofgains
      @thebonfireofgains ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those people dont watch other mappa anime and just feed off an echo chamber
      MAPPA staff are damn talented and personally Hayashi is the best director they have. Horror, suspense and the best storyboarding (both speed and quality). Not to mention being an expert in directing cg into anime. I would say if there is a universal MAPPA trait for their anime, its their character acting...esp in Chainsaw Man where the majority of their non-action sakuga is fluid and concise character acting. AoT S4 has more character acting than S2, a season with some of the most infamous still frames (S1 has more...but a bit better used...and I love S2 over S1 so pain)

      @ProbablyPretentious  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hmm, well I think the rumbling ost was very subtle and tasteful, because it's genocide, hype music screams immaturity, overly dramatic music makes it feel fake, the ost choice for the rumbling was subtlety at it's finest so are you talking about the hange scene?

The vocals took me out of the scene. The song by itself might be good but it didn't work for me at that scene. Also I agree OST during rumbling was good but during the Freedom scene, it was lacking a bit. The visuals were good so music definitely could have elevated it to next level. The first part of attack on titan season 4 was a little off compared to that of wit studio(I am not talking about style change. Because the style that mappa used was perfect for the sutuation. I wouldn't have liked the glittery style of first 3 seasons in such situations. I just felt like they didn't give a good finishing touch to what they made most probably due to less time). But honestly the later parts looked really good. They were one of the best I have ever watched not just good. And not just good but they were really matching the story and situation. Because a good animation is not only about fluidity of the animation but there are other things to consider too. To be honest I like the animation of part 3 of season 4 AOT more than that of wit studio.
      And to those people who are still criticizing mappa even after seeing the animation of part 3 then they are just obsessed over wit studios animation and they can't see the reality.

The art style has a lot of detail consistently and it moves Really well, it's ridicilous. This Quality of the final product is better than season 3 and 2 as a whole. Yea I'll tell you, so basically this episode ended with chapter 134, the beginning of that chapter contains some ridiculous rumbling shots but the episode skipped them, those will most likely be a part of the next installment. They are not too dissimilar to the rumbling shots in the beginning of this ep, except instead of a few hundred/thousand people, those shots literally have millions, it's millions of moving people on screen alongside many, many colossals, so that's insane. Also the actual fight, bunch of shifters literally fighting on top of a bigger shifter, it's an insane setpiece so part 2 will be several times more complicated and large scale
