    I think the devs should focus on making official campaigns for all the civs that don't have any because OG civs still not having one is just insane to me
    I know there is Historical Battles but I argue it doesn't do them enough justice.

      Lords of the West finally gave the English their own campaign after 22 years. after that, Lithuanians got theirs with Dawn of the Dukes. Dynasties of India and Return of Rome naturally had none for an older civ.
      I'm pretty sure that this year's DLC for AoE2DE, 1 old civ will have a campaign. I think it will be about East Asia: China, Korea, Japan would definitely be within the realms of possibility.

    Would be fun if yellow spawned a huge army ~1 minute after you declare war, as it's a huge empire as well that can send reenforcements.

    • @glenmcgillivray4707
      @glenmcgillivray4707 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I might have rigged it to the destruction of the town center or any castle. So raiding is neglected, but any landgrab triggers the war.
      I'd also add 5 villagers worth of wood, stone and food trickle, and spawn a new villager every few minutes if none exist to rebuild the frontier and then repair it's possessions.
      So stripping the settlement of it's villagers will not actually disable the settlement, despite the raiding and ongoing hostility.
      It also means you can stop the harassment without facing the army.

    I actually have my own version of a large scale Roman scenario called "The Eagle Spreads its Wings". Its all single player and has you as the romans expand out and conquer Carthage (persians), Egypt (Ethiopians), Gaul (celts) and Britannia (britons).
    Theres also the goths in Germania, the huns who spawn in from the east later in the scenario, and Greek States (byzantines). Once you defeat the Greeks they become your ally as the eastern empire.
    When i first made the scenario i had the romans set as italians (minus gunpowder) which i then switched to Sicilians as the serjeant worked well as a legionary stand in.
    Now i just have to update my scenario with the new Roman civ and change some of the triggers

    2:05 - Hannibal had to take the alpine route during the 2nd Punic War because by this time the Roman fleet had won decisive victories and made a sea campaign impossible. Their new invention, the corvus (crow bill) had essentially made naval engagements into land battles; their strength. Thus, with an uncooperative government at home and a mostly mercenary army, he took the north then east, damaging Roman colonies in Iberia and southern Gaul, while also picking up rebels along the way (Gauls etc) who chafed under Roman control. Had Hannibal been able to besiege cities, we likely would be talking about him as the man who sacked Rome for the 2nd time (first was by Gauls). Trust me, if Hannibal didn't have to, he wouldn't have taken the alpine route as I wanna say only 2 - 4 (?) of his elephants survived.

      @bernard3303 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure because i didnt play this map yet as i havent heard anything of it since this video but i assume they are now goths instead of frankish which is a good gameplay decision imo as the frankish culture amd way of life was drastically different and it wouldnt make sense to give them a cavalry focused agricultural civ, plus goth armies are larger and feel more threatening

  • @PablitoAndCo
    @PablitoAndCo ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Pretty good idea to update the map.
    Although, as a nitpick, the last chance of the Western Roman Empire being saved/rebuilt happened with the reign of Majorianus, between 457 and 461.
    Honestly I think it would be cool to have another scenario where you start off with Italy, Dalmatia and northern Gaul and have to retake the WRE borders by going against the Vandals, Visigoths, Franks and Anglo-Saxons. Unfortunately, the Huns would be on the back-foot at this time, so a bit less player variety there.

  • @vallytine

    They REALLY need to dial back the number of civs they add and just do a DLC or two focused on adding in campaigns for civs that lack them - Chinese, Koreans, Japanese have been waiting on Civs for how long? And there's SO much potential for stories there - Rise of the Ming for Chinese, Trials of the Goryeo or Joseon Dynasties for Koreans, and Three Unifiers (Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, Ieyasu) for Japanese. And for romans a campaign focusing on somebody like Constantine or Aurelian would be fantastic.

    Great map, it looks wonderful. You could try a scenario I've built some years ago, in Northwest Spain, but in the year 1000 AD (600 years later), based on the 10th and 11th Century Santiago de Compostela had a huge gold treasury from the Saint James Way pilgrims. The coast was constantly being raided by Vikings, some Britons took refuge and a huge campaign by Al-Mansur atacked from Al-Andalus, destroying Astorga and in Santiago they took the bronze bells of the Cathedral to Córdoba.
    You can search it in the mods, it is called "Galicia anno 1000". Would love some feedback.

    Super cool. I like adding the offensive element, the old one was cool, but had feelbad moments just trying to attrite your enemies. I think aoe2 in general doesn't do a great job of encouraging prolonged, widespread conflict, you generally have 1 or maybe 2 battle sites, this scenario should force you to manage multiple simultaneous offensives / skirmishes

    I am the author of Alexander Nevski or Mehmed the Conqueror (Manu La Capuche) and I been willing to work on a AOE2 DE Roman campaign but so far all the bugs in the scenario editor kept me from keeping working on any content until they are fixed for good.
    The most game breaking issue right now is the Replace Object effect not scaling the HP values between the previous object to the replacing object, which is totally crippling a lot of scenarios, official and custom alike. If you want more custom content, I highly advise you to bring this up to the devs time and time again so that they start to care. Because right now solo player doesn't seem one of their priorities, and it has been months already with the scenario editor bugged at various levels.

    This looks fantastic. I'd love to be able to run this in 3 people. Maybe the third player is one of the factions that make sense to ally with the Romans.
    Or maybe (and this is def scope creeping things, but) there could be another outpost to fragment some part of the west or east (or something between both) to create a thrid roman actor. Maybe something central that can work a little more like the Huns - I recall there is a historical precedent for a mobile Roman cavalry force.

    • @ntnima
      @ntnima ปีที่แล้ว

      Or maybe the mercenaries that can be bought are placed under the control of the third player. I don't know - something flavorful that would make interesting immersive coordination challenges for three players against the AIs.

    This looks great, I just wish the map size was bigger so Spain isn't just one screen's width.

    shouldn't Milan be one of the capitals instead of Rome itself? and why are Franks goths rather than, well, Franks? I think that Anglo-Saxons could actually be Goths rather than Vikings, like in Hastings scenario. I'm guessing that Woad raiders are just for balance purpose, but i think actual huskarls would still fit better as mercs or "foederati". And speaking of Visigoths: if they already settled, why are there also in the north of the Eastern Roman Empire? Should't they be the Ostrogoths?
    Other than that, it's great you remade this map and now for singleplayer!

    The Western Romans definitely need their own campaign in the future

      I've designed 2 roman scenarios,
      "Roman Border Assault"
      And
      "Roman Britannia"
      Check them out for more Roman fun in the meantime!

    I was expecting a Roman campaing for Flavius Aetius as a Roman point of view of the Attila Campaing. Guess it'll only exist in my mind.

    Wow this is so cool. Imagine if AoE 2 would offer a System similar to the Focus Tree for HOI 4 in these custom scenarios which could allow you fire of scripted sequences.

    This campaign won't show up on the Custom Campaign screen :( It also does not show up when you filter mods to 'campaign'.

    We used to play the EoE1 all the time! I love this Mod!
    But there's one pet peeve of mine
    The Barbarians of then, were not uncivilized....
    Words change in +2000 years
    Tribes were huge political unions, sometimes of 10,000+ people. With democracy at every political level
    And were much more humain then Romans and Greeks. Not to mention les sexist
    Rome was a falling state, it could not have an Emporor for mor then a few years (sometimes months)
    Sacking Rome is an old and proud tradition Roman Generals did. This was the first time a non-Roman did it
    The Goths disposed of an Emperor Yes. But they saved Rome as an institution, gave the Roman citizens and Senate more power
    And brought overall stability by disposing a line of nutty Emperors

      Don't see much point in your moralizing for the Goths victory, but otherwise you are of course completely right.
      Alot of Westerners are brought up with a reverence for Rome despite it being a warmongering slaver state, ruled by dictators. It was the most succsessful killer so therefore it is the best.
      Kill a man and your a murder, kill a thousand and your a God.
