  • Blazblue tournaments have been kind of quiet lately, so let's watch the BEST set of all time. Dogura vs Galileo at EVO 2014. Is this your favorite set or do you have another one that you like more?

    The crazy thing about this set is the fact that no matter what small wins Galileo could get, Dogura immediately responded with a crushing win that'd take any wind out of the crowd.
    Still, Galileo braved the storm with a goddamn 2x4 and I respect that so much.

    2:39 I remember having this discussion with LK when he came to Montréal around the time Chrono Phantasma was released when LK dropped Lichi, I basically said (not in these words) you're crazy for dropping Lichi, she's still incredibly strong even if she lost her Daisharin +196f lockdown super, and LK basically said yeah she's still strong, but she doesn't do what I like anymore.
    Fair.

    Man, what a great year for EVO. Same year Justin Wong clutched it out against Chris G in Marvel. I remember catching this set live. Had no idea what was happening, but you could sense the player's fighting spirit on some real anime shit. Good times man. Good times.

    It's crazy to think this is the set that got me into fighting games. I just happened to be browsing for something to watch on twitch and ended up watching EVO because i knew it was a big tournament. I had no idea what BB was when i watched it, but i knew when this set happened it felt so next level compared to the other sets i had watched before, it convinced me to try fighting games.

    What I liked about this on top of being an amazing set in general is that when Galileo was on the verge of breaking down (I think that was in the 12 minute mark of the video but got cut), it seemed like Dogura gave some calming shoulder taps and words (I wouldn't know what) to Galileo --- only for Dogura to lose in the end. That's some level of sportsmanship by Dogura. (if anyone can enlighten me on what Dogura said, please do so)

    This set always takes me back... I remember watching this match-up live on the stream while being on a call with a good friend of mine, I think we watched the whole top 8 of this tournament even. I knew nothing about either of these players at the time but I was cheering on Dogura the entire time, solely fueled by spite at the fact Litchi players were always kicking my ass back then. lmao Don't remember who my friend was rooting for if anyone but I do remember all the nail-biting moments had us constantly popping off. I don't think I've ever been more invested in a match-up not featuring a Jin player even to this day tbh. Something about the energy and skill on display that night swept me up.

    It's interesting Jiyuna brings up Kokonoe being considered the strongest character while not Kokonoe players being in top 8 because if my memory is correct (I remember watching this in middle school and I'm a year out from graduating college) there were 8 Kokonoe players in top 16 and they all lost before making it to top 8. Crazy there wasn't 1 Kokonoe mirror in top 16 considering half the bracket was playing her. Sorry if I didn't remember correctly

    • @ANIMEILLUMINATI
      @ANIMEILLUMINATI  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely not 8 Kokonoe's, but there were a few that got somewhat far.

      @@ANIMEILLUMINATI I'd love to see a bracket from like top 32 or at least top 16 because you're probably right but I remember hearing a commentator say that there were 8 Kokonoe players knocked out in the same round. It probably wasn't 8 just thinking about it but there were for sure a handful

    Idk if you keep up with Melee, but this reminds me of smash summit 11 finals which was Mango vs. Zain. Funnily enough it played out almost identical to how this set played out. Mango, who was in losers, would proceed to go down 0-2 and then reverse sweep Zain with the final game being really close, TWICE. The problem is, much like with this set Mango really shouldn’t have won. He was helped immensely by Zain SDing at least once during both game 5s. At the time due to Mango’s comeback it was hailed as the best set of Melee ever played, but now that the hype has died down and people rewatch the set, Mango probably only won because realistically, Zain threw at the most important moment both times. In many fighting games it seems that the sets where big comebacks are remembered and often hailed as “the greatest set of X game ever” are often only possible because one of the players choked what should have just been an easy 3-0 or 3-1. And when one player ends up getting come back on, can you really call that the greatest set of that game ever played? Cause realistically they got stomped just as hard as the other player did, and on top of that it’s arguably worse cause they should have closed it out forever ago. Shouldn’t a set like Combo Breaker 2022 be hailed as the greatest set of Blazblue ever played? It was a very back and forth game that went nearly all the way and basically cemented Monarch’s dominance for the next year and a half. But watching it back, it’s not nearly as entertaining as the Evo 2014 set is. That’s because there’s a much better story behind the Evo 2014 set, and the FGC LOVES stories. That’s also why the Summit 11 set is so famous. Mango’s story about his mentality for that day and his run through losers rounded out by one of the closest, as well as messy, sets of Melee ever played. I’m sure we’ll have sets in games one day that keep a good balance of a storyline/comeback that’s also balanced by both players playing at the highest skill level, but like I said early unfortunately at the highest level that expectation isn’t really reasonable. Despite all this, I think it’s ok to call these come back choke storylines the “best set of X game ever played” because storylines are one of the most important, entertaining, and community defining parts of the FGC and without them we wouldn’t be the FGC. Oh and long live Blazblue❤

    I’ve been waiting for a new blazblue video for a while. I wanted to say I’m fairly new to the game like just over 2 weeks in in BBCF and I kind of remembered u kept saying it’s your favourite game. So I wanted to ask some stuff, I’ve seen most NA sets, but I heard the scene in Japan is or was big. I wanna know how you really search for these sets. I play Nine/Mu-12 if there are any players I could watch that’d be great. So far I only know Coma and Basedtuxedomask

    So this version of Blazblue was when Kokonoe was absolutely busted. I'm not 100% on the facts, but I've heard that in the top 16 there were 8 Kokonoe players, all of whom got eliminated by the players who made top 8. Kokonoe not being in the finals was definitely a big deal.
