This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit Elizabeth Zimmerman's sewn bind off. This method of casting off was developed to compliment the look of the long tail cast on. By sewing the tail of your yarn through the stitches, you can create a finished edge that perfectly mirrors the long tail.

I've done this bind off before but didn't know it was EZ's! And your Daily email came today with this video, it was perfect timing to remind me. I just bound off a sweater and hated the bind off. I'm ripping it out today to do Elizabeth Zimmerman's bind off, it will be perfect! Thank you!

Great knitting video. Very clear instruction. Great pace as well. Some people go too fast when they are doing a tutorial. Keep up the good work!

Marvelous technique! I've been told this is the best bind-off for sock cuffs, so the socks will go over your foot easily.

OH MY GOSH! After I researched looser bind-off techniques and then figured out how to tink my traditional bind-off - which made my square baby afghan look like a trapezoid - I watched your video. This bind-off technique is marvelous! The baby afghan looks terrific now!

I noticed that you are working on the knit side. Will this work on the purl side of work?

You say to “pull tight,” but maybe you mean to match the tension of the piece? Thanks for the video-very helpful!

Hello, I recently created a cowl using this technique. I want to upload the pattern to a website, and I was wondering if it would be alright to reference this video in my pattern in case they need a visual on how to do the technique? Thank you so much.

Is this a stretchy bind off? It looks very nice. I guess I’ll have to knit up a sample and try it.

I wouldn't call it stretchy. It's as tight as you pull the yarn through.

Nice and clear tutorial. Is this sewn bind off more stretchy than the tubular bind off? I need to bind off a 2x2 ribbing on a neck warmer but needs to be super stretchy just like the long tail cast on. Thank you!! :)

When I did this on a 1x1 rib scarf it cam out very loose ?? Any advice to what I did wrong?

You did not hold the tension tightly. Match your "stitching" to the exact stitch into which you are sewing for bind off. Keep the tension of your yarn more taught. Hope it helps.

This is quite like the Ruke bind off that uses three stitches and drops one. Ruke seems more flexible.

I find that it mimics the "cable" cast on.

Sorry, but this is not the Zimmermann bind off that mimics long tail cast on. That one goes from left to right. Please see her DVD Knitting Glossary.

Good gravy....four plus long minutes for something that really should take less than 30 seconds.. skipped ahead to 2:21 and fast fwded to get the jist of it. Nobody has time for blah blah!
