    Hi, great mechanic, lean and effective!
    I love the idea of using the leveling bolt to refill it back with no need of dissasembling parts somewhere else.
    Q1: what is the diameter of the hose that fits in the leveling bolt-pipe?
    Q2: what do you use to pump the new oil in?
    Any links to products are welcome.
    Thank you again

    Hello, what color is the oil that you put on the flag? When I unloaded my car, I found the color of the oil to be red. It is the same engine and the same car, a Peugeot 406.

  • @kw3663
    @kw3663 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. How long does it take for the old oil stuck in the torque (about 2.5l) to get fully mixed with the new oil. Does it mix quickly by pressure/hydrolics with a 5 minute drive, or is it much slower and maybe takes a few weeks/months of driving? (I left mine draining overnight to see if the torque would empty on its own through the seals but I hardly got any, maybe a tenth of a litre, and probably not even from the torque)

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, fluid mixes fairly quickly, however the fluid that is in behind pistons usually have very small bleed hole, so it will take longer to flush out that, unecessary to worry too much unless you have coolant/water in your trans. cheers

  • @ianh9696
    @ianh9696 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi.
    When draining an automatic gearbox you only get about half of the oil out.
    The other half is still in the torque converter.
    If you just refill like you did you end up with 50/50 oil.
    50% new mixed with 50% old.
    That's why when you removed the level plug to set the oil level the oil that came out was nearly as black as the original oil.
    When I did mine I used 20 litres of oil.
    Drained as much as I could.
    Refilled and set the level.
    Drove for a few days and repeated until all the 20 litres was used.
    Each time you drain you remove more of the old oil.
    1 drain and refill = 50/50 oil. New/Old.
    2 drains = 75/25.
    3 drains = 87.5/12.5.
    4 drains = 93.75/6.25.
    Obviously these are very loose figures.
    Yes, it is more expensive but you end up with a better job.
    Unfortunately on the Megane Scenic the oil cooler is built onto the gearbox and is cooled by the engine coolant via an oil to water heat exchanger.
    I cannot see how an inline oil filter could be used if there are no pipes going to an oil coiler radiator at the front of the car.
    Also, on my car the oil change didn't fix the jerky 1st to 2nd gear changes even after stripping, cleaning and rebuilding the hydraulic block with new solenoids at the top.
    Couldn't change the gear change solenoids as I couldn't afford them at the time.
    This is an UK car.

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, it would have been cheaper, better and easier if you installed a remote cooler adapter kit which enables fitting of an air trans cooler. then you could have just vacuumed the old fluid via those lines with a cheap hand oil extraction pump from ebay, and had the added bonus of better trans cooling and eliminated chance of coolant entering your trans. whenever we recondition these trans we insist on fitting a bypass cooler. in uk you might need the coolant to warm up the trans fluid in sub zero temps inorder to not scrub out seals. in australia we need to keep them cool so trans last longer. cheers

    • @kw3663
      @kw3663 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great video.
      I read that if you try to suck oil out you risk metal deposits getting sucked into the wrong places and causing transmission problems. I got a whirring relative to rpm on my 1.4 Clio Mk2 auto. No change problems and someone told me it's a normal noise. I'm going to change the ATF and see if it helps - I might do a second change to get 80% new fluid but that's good enough for me. Is any Dex 3 the best for these transmissions? Any type of Dex 3 has got to better than the 18 year old stuff in there now. Ever used Dex 6 in these?

      hi, some of the fine metallic debris that is suspended in the trans fluid will come out with an oil change. any trans fluid that is suited to your particular trans would have similar result. the problem is the internal filter getting blocked with that fine swarf. make sure you do a trans cooling line flow check, add magnets if possible and even check solenoids aren`t leaking or heavily contaminated with debris before you do any major removal & repairs. cheers

    I have a Citroen c4 coupe (2007) with automatic transmission, I would like to do a complete flush instead of normal change, but this requires opening the transmission coolant lines in order to empty the oil from the torque converter, do you know if this technique is possible with AL4 ? Where are these coolant lines located in the Citroen c4 ?

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, to doa full flush you will either need a vacuum pump or a transmission flush machine. in doing a full flush with either will require 3 to 4 times your trans fluid capacity. we only do a full flush when water or coolant has entered transmission. generally it isnt needed otherwise. cheers

      When an automatic transmission has mechanical problems, it will not shift into D or R. But if it has trouble shifting into subsequent gears, then you have an electronic problem. Possibly the solenoids or in less cases, the connecting cables and even more rarely, the control module. I would bet on changing the selenoids and the transmission filter. Recycle used transmission oil as much as you can.
