    Pricey but totally worth it if used frequently. Several friends with these and nobody has not given them less than 5-stars for build and function. Great choice and thanks for sharing with us.

    I just ordered one have a 2 bike other brand now. I don't care for it and really only 95% of the time carry only one bike anyhow. The hitch device you had I assume was to mark how for you needed to insert it? Where did you get that from? I'm getting a 2 inch one just ordered it yesterday.

    Hi Auto Fanatic, the security wrench used for the rack is a common tool found at many tool stores. You better get the locks to lock the add ons to your base rack and the lock to hide the mounting screw of the base to the receiver hitch.

      I have never seen a security hex bit that large locally but I'm sure Mcmaster or Grainger has them. We do not leave the bikes on the racks anywhere so never used the locks we bought 3 years ago. we go from home to trail and back in most cases.

      The new 1UP racks including "older" models no longer use the skewer type hitch lock to cover the security hex bolt. Instead they cut a slot in the hitch so that one can use a standard hitch lock. I like both options, may have a welder add on another 1/2" so that I can easily block the bolt as prior.

    I've looked at them all also. Settled on a RockyMounts Splitrail. I love it. Give it a look, great customer service and secure mounting. Plus it has a nice anti rattle hitch cam that takes out any slack in the receiver end.

    Thanks for the review, this is the best rack. I have it for five years, only problem was the silver aluminum part started to corrode, they replace it for free. Also just got the rack for my fat boy and it works awesome.

      I have a couple questions for you, what’s the best polish and compound system in your opinion? I was leaning towards Adams and CG, also what random orbital would you recommend? Thanks for the detailing vids!

    Great video - this is the best I've seen for getting a good, detailed look at this rack that I've been curious about.
    Can you address the security question that a couple of us have? It seems to be pretty insecure with all those exposed bolts and the security hex key isn't much of a deterrent. Basically, we're just counting on nobody having access to one of those hex wrenches, no?

    • @Ivan_Luna.mp4
      @Ivan_Luna.mp4 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can get a pad lock to prevent access to the hitch screw. 1up sells them for about 15 bucks but you could also get a small padlock that slides in there.

    They are too expensive! Kuat is the originator of the aluminum rack and is a little less expensive.

    I was going to buy this, but even locked there are too many bolts that can be undone. Also you can get that Allen key online. I asked them if the rachet mech starts to not hold if they would replace that part. They said no it's normal wear and tear. I don't like that aspect of customer service. The original guy who made this has made one alot better called quik rack but he's talking next year until release. So kuat NV 2.0 looks like the best set-up out there. But good review

    • @SoDouglass
      @SoDouglass 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the first thing that came to my mind. Am I missing something, or is this thing just a security nightmare? Seems like it'll come right apart with a few easily-accessed bolts and that security hex key is pretty weak protection.

    • @SoDouglass
      @SoDouglass 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, it's even worse - quick release on your front wheel and the whole bike is loose. You'll need to cable it all up pretty well either way.

    • @SoDouglass
      @SoDouglass 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Poking around on the 1Up website a bit, I came across their wheel locks. That's a great, though expensive solution (need 2 per bike - another $38 per bike!), but the overall security still depends on the overall physical integrity of the rack itself and not being able to just deconstruct it at any of the many bolted joints. You'd still also need a cable lock or something to keep the bike frame attached to the wheels.

      Where are you getting coffee that you're leaving your bikes unattended so long.

    • @SoDouglass
      @SoDouglass 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raynellholmes1011
      I never bought one, so I admit maybe I'm missing something, but it sure looks like you could completely free up the bike with just a quick release on the wheel.
      How long does it take you to quick release your front wheel off your bike? Someone could have your bike off the rack before you even walk into a Starbucks, let alone stop for lunch or get into a hotel on a road trip.
      Do you never take your bike any farther than directly to your local trails and straight back home?

      i would never trust one of those with the roads and abuse we drive over, too risky i saw one fly off a Audi TT a while back as it hit a huge pothole destroyed the ladies car. I also do not like sticking anything to the cars paint or glass it can scratch if your not cautious.

      Auto Fanatic Kool. I've had mine for 5yrs. No marks or scratches. When I got my 2013 Ford Fusion I didn't want the straps to scratch my trunk.

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah the straps from those racks stinks with those rubber coated hooks on the edge I had one way back from Thule, the hitch mount is the way to go depending in car its so much easier i feel.
