  • This humble piece of flooring joist I salvaged doesn't look like much from the outside, but it turned out to have an amazing grain pattern.
For the shape, I decided to try something a bit different, not quite square or round.

All of the wood shown in my videos is locally and sustainability sourced. Many pieces include recycled native timber from items such as old furniture, house renovations, building demolitions and the occasional tree.

As in all the videos I have seen of yours, you have a good eye for seeing the grains of the wood and its beauty. Your tools are always sharp and provide the best of your talents to handmake beautiful and useful works of art. Great job, and God bless.

I can’t believe that grain either. But I do believe this piece would make a great butter dish. Or even better, a I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter dish. Then you could proudly say you made a I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter I Can’t Believe This Grain dish.

The grain really is. I only wish I had a more/larger piece.

That certainly is amazing grain. Some of the nicest woods are hidden right under our noses, or in this case, floors. Beautiful!

Couldn’t agree more. Many times they are covered up or discarded without a second look.

This piece is really quite stunning, and the grain is gorgeous. Whenever I see wood that dark to begin with, It looks like a present sent from Mother Nature. Thanks for saving more of the life of that tree.
It really points out how, in my mind, horrible and disrespectful people are to the trees and the planet when they chop down tree after tree, forest after forest and when they're done building they chuck the 'trash' out. It breaks my heart. To me it is despicable and it happens over and over and over. Your piece, turned, from what others call 'trash' shows just how incredibly wrong they are.

Thank you. I agree with you, which is why many of my pieces are made from recycled timbers (e.g from old houses or furniture). They may not be the most dramatic or interesting woods to start with but if I can save them from the trash and make something which lasts another lifetime I think that’s worth it.
