I am a single mother of 3 boys. My Dad taught me heaps of woodwork, and now I am teaching my boys. They love it. Not only are they learning a new skill, but they are also spending time with their brothers they are spending time with me. It gives them great memories as well. These are amazing, and now the boys want to do some of these. Thank you for sharing. We just came across your channel. We live in Queensland, Australia

Hi Vanessa. My comments are not showing for some reason. So glad you are getting the boys into it.
My latest video may be helpful. I’m giving away a load of kit for turners.

@Jack Mack Woodturning Hi, yes we did watch that video and loved it thanks. We live from payday to payday due to the high cost of medical equipment and bills. We will be buying a few tickets on our payday. I have taught my boys how to make tools out of old files and made our own lathe out of a washing machine motor with sides of an old bed. It is a little ruff, but it does the job until we can afford the right tools.

@@JackMackWoodturning Hi I am so sorry we didn't get to buy any tickets due to me going to hospital again and some low-life scumbags broke into our home again and stole my wheelchair. TV'S, desktop computers, laptops, tools, medication and more. This is the 8th time in 5 years now. The police haven't found any of the criminals or our stuff. The criminals also broke into 4 other homes and 1 was a police officer house who has 4 biological children and 6 foster children, which he is adopting. They even took all four of our new adjustable bed bases and mattresses which are independent spilt system. CAELUM BASE with Asthma, allergic mattresses and 3 other single mattresses and 1 double mattress.

When I was a young boy my grand father had a shop in the woods near his home. He had a crud wood lathe where he did some wood turning. Nothing as elaborate as is being done here. He made a lamp and I ended up with it and although it is quit plane I cherish owning it only because my grand father made it. Watching this man make his craft reminds me of my grad father. I’m 77 now and my grand father has long since passed. I miss him but I cherish my lamp.

It’s touching to hear and it speaks to the importance the object can hold besides an aesthetic value or practical use.
I adore comments like this. I make may two little boys things I hope with all my heart that I can make something with their children one day too.

@@JackMackWoodturning there is quite a setting in my mind with the little boy watching the old man for what seemed like many hours doing his work. The old man’s every move is filed away in a place in the little boys head and in his heart. They’re not speaking but they’re communicating none the-less. The teacher and the student. The old man is proud of what the little boy is becoming.

He was not a sentimental guy. When I went of to Vietnam he went into his cupboard and got a can a kippered snacks. A canned fish he liked to snack on once in a while, and he gave it to me. He said when I returned he wanted it back. He was sending me a message. There were two occasions where food ran short but I did not eat his gift and after a year in Vietnam I returned the gift to him. He just smiled and put it in his pocket. We were close. He died a month later. It was like he was waiting for my safe return.

I absolutely love these videos I find them not only extremely relaxing but find myself wanting to get these tools and do this myself as a hobby. We learnt how to make stuff with all these tools in wood class in school but now I wish I'd chosen it as one of my gcse subjects. The art of joinery and making art out of not just wood but wood and resin combos is just out of this world. If only I'd known when I was younger that I'd grow up to love this stuff full time but actually be able to make a job out of it. Growing up your discouraged from silly job careers as our teachers told us and focus on being something more realistic like a teacher or a nurse

Picking one(?)…There were a number that really appealed to me.
*The second one (I think) was the ‘small’ vase with the ‘dimples’ on the top portion. It is simple (comparatively), the wood is beautiful, & the dimpling on the upper portion (also ‘simple’) added an interesting texture.
*The piece that ended up as the clock. For me it is a bit hard to read, but the structure with the 2” (?) branch pieces with the gold & black resin was very cool. I think, for me, I would have preferred a bowl with a 2ish inch (or so) straight sides That would have kept the focus on the wood which having both outer & heart portions is very appealing. *
*The first piece showed off the wood nicely, but I prefer smaller pieces, generally.
*And there were others. The bowling pin, was inventive, read a bit ‘cutesy’ for me.
      I do appreciate your imagination.
*My favorite one though, is the Golden Rain Burl. (I think I got that right.) The wood is absolutely exquisite & your treatment of it shows it off perfectly. Plus you took the time to hollow it out. It is Gorgeous.
I think resin has it’s place. Your latest project ‘1000’ pieces I really like, but first and for most it’s always about the wood for me.
Interesting wood with a treatment that honors it will always be my favorite. (I’m a Tree Hugger too.)

What did you use to fill in the hole in the wood? Also what products did you use to finish it? I absolutely love your work. I love working with wood, I am considering getting a lathe... Right now I make a lot of other things with live edge wood.
