Good video. The amount of water in the sand also has a lot to do with it. Some days it's a walk in the park and some days it's a sand trap. Also, minimising weight and not towing a trailer will help.
If you want to get bogged, I would recommend towing a trailer where the wheelbase of the trailer is smaller than the vehicle, then pick one with small wheels and tires and don't worry about letting down the trailer tires. Then, forget to fully release the trailer brake or have it dragging. It's best to use a trailer hitch and tow ball that's just a few inches off the ground as well. Use high range because everybody has told you "maximum momentum" so you want to hit it fast. Don't realise that the traction control on your car in high range is designed for the road and will probably fail badly in the sand. Ohh and forget to lock the front hubs, don't bother with the central diff lock. Don't take your tires down to much because you don't have an air pump and you need to drive to the servo when you get back to air up again and your ultra low profile tires don't have much air in them anyway. You probably don't have a tire pressure gauge so if you do decide to air down, just poke the valve with a twig for about 30 seconds. At that point, you will need a ciggy so you will call it done. When you driving, pump the throttle a lot so that the spectators can hear your cool engine and see a lot of black smoke that comes out. If you start to get bogged, don't stop, FLOOR IT. This is the chance you have been waiting for! You can show off the awesome power of your rig to everybody around! You paid good beer money for that exhaust stack and now is it's time to shine! The higher you can get the sand to spray up and the louder your engine, the more the beach will be intimidated and let you pass. Despite all of this, your soooo confident that you won't get bogged, you will be the one that doesn't need any recovery points, recovery boards or snatch straps. If you do manage by some miracle to get through, you are a hero. You should then proceed to try and help tow someone else out of the sand using your awesome rig but get yourself bogged directly in front of them showing off. This will start a chain of others doing the same thing to you until there is a line of bogged vehicles about 4 deep. Woohoo welcome to the Aussie sand!

You forgot one thing , if your vehicle has it turn T/C traction control OFF every time you start your vehicle on sand as it will revert back to T/C on .
Nothing hurts momentum like independent wheels appling braking when the ecu senses loss off traction to a particular wheel too straighten up the vehicle , which on sand is all of them all of the time.
Good video for beginners though 👍

Quick note on this for those still watching this vid.
In general, you want to ensure you have STABILITY control off, this is the one that applies the brakes AND (this is the important bit) massively cuts engine power in order to try and keep the vehicle driving in a controlled manner (right way up and pointing the right direction).
TRACTION control quite often is very helpful in the sand as it only applies the brakes to the wheels that have already lost all traction, which unless you have locking diffs means you will instantly lose drive to all other wheels. By applying the brakes to the free spinning wheels, it provides enough resistance for the remaining wheels to receive drive once more, preventing the car digging in and letting you power through.

@Luke Raisbeck But your forgetting the the golden rule for driving soft beach sand ,which is maintain momentum.
Braking applied to any wheel is bad when your trying to keep a large vehicle moving through soft sand .

Hi good video. I agree with trye pressure . Rule of thumb for Fraser is 16 psi. I did it in an io pajero all the way to the champagne pools with no probs

    Mate !!!
You aren’t going to be let into the 40 psi club...
You need max tyre pressure bounce the engine off the govener and change gears often being careful to be as rough on the clutch as possible!
Excessive diesel smoke is greatly appreciated! As is sand flying at least 30 feet in the air!
Do all this and bogging is a breeze
Think of all the mechanical damage you can do!
    Just sayin

You must of copied this “useful information “ from the sign a lot of people are reading before they attempt this “highly technical “ section getting to and from the barge..........

@@DannyE333 isn’t it hilarious that people drive past the bay where you let the tyres down
Then proceed to block up the entryway to inskip beach - sometimes for hours till they figure it out
      Humans ...go figure!

For anyone watching this video, do NOT take the advice of using Low Range. Stay in 4H, and if you are doing something like inskip, 2nd gear is perfect.

    • @tishbrett
      @tishbrett 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

4L works great you can take off at idle speed allways seen people getting bogged trying to rev up and take off in h4 unless on hard sand

I’ve done Inskip and Fraser in summer with hot, dry sand. Never used 4L. Always 4H. Turn off traction control, tyres to 18psi and keep momentum. If I feel I’m getting into trouble I will let the tyres down further.
