    CACKLING at "17yr olds doing old money aesthetic, girl you don't have a job"
    But I agree with you, I think people are too harsh on the Y2K aesthetic - it has been the point of access to have fun with fashion again and try shit. On the flip side, I think taking the Y2K aesthetic too seriously and making it your entire style is also not good and besides the point. As with every era revival, keep what sticks and leave out the rest.

      I feel like I’m at a point where I’m not really bothered, like if they love their look I don’t care if it’s all they own. There’s some Y2K stuff that absolutely works for some people, and I’m glad some of it gets a chance to shine again. Maybe I don’t love the wildly oversized jeans, but I’m not mad about it.
      I feel like we’re getting to a weird point where fashion is kind of ending up like music, everything is always trending all the time. Sure maybe not in the cutting edge, but now everyone can just live it, whether they’re doing a “I totally wish I was at Woodstock” look, or Y2K, or maybe mine-worker chic. I’m here for it.

    i think the only thing i disagree with the cross body bags. i like the asymmetry / diagonal line it creates & i love the practicality of being able to bring stuff with me, especially when i don’t have pockets & don’t want to consciously have to remember to hold onto a bag

    ok but what you said about some of these "trends" are just practicality! like I'm not dressing to be fashionable! I'm just trying to get by! I live in canada (not even the particularly cold parts but like) and over half the year we dress for survival, not fashion. if I saw "parkas and ugly winter boots should be out" I'd like yeah okay have fun looking fashion while you're literally dying (which some people are because they can't afford the winter gear which is a whole other topic)

  • @mattbonanza9032

    Y2K is more than it seems. For people who were not young then they see picture of Britney with serpent and think everyone walk around in that. Clothes were so expensive back then so a pair of flared jeans and a big buckle belt is all you could have sometimes. I found Diesel bell bottom jeans yesterday in a second hand store...I pulled them on when I got home and danced by myself in front of the mirror to sounds of Destiny's Child, Missy, Britney and it felt so great. Freedom is a main takeaway of Y2K. We were more poor but more free in our heads. Can't wait to pull on those jeans and walk the streets taking in all the stares 🤘

    The jaw clips didn’t work in my hair when it was relaxed or natural. They’re also painful when you drive to sit back in a car or lay down. The thin eyebrow thing haunted me as a teenager. I knew it didn’t and/or couldn’t look like my friends in many ways and that just felt like another way. Let eyebrows do whatever they want…overplucking can’t literally be damaging. Cargo pants, sheer stuff, and flounces are cool. Fanny packs worn across your body are another trend that doesn’t work for me but… y’all do you. The platform crocs look like a health hazard. The rest of the stuff I’m apathetic about. I think we each have personal fashion icks and that’s good.

    The 2000s were fun but the resurgence always seemed odd to be because the 2000's literally wasn't that long ago; the dirt hasn't even settled around the body, yet it was dug back up.

  • @accooper97
    @accooper97 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    As someone who actually grew up during the early 2000s, I can say, it is kinda annoying seeing teenagers (especially those with smaller bodies) wear clothes that we got bullied for wearing (especially if you were husky). I can understand the complete reject of trends that made you feel less than your peers, especially if your parents still picked your clothes.

    I’m not personally fond of cargo pants, but it’s a look that absolutely works for some people. I remember when those scrunchie shirts were a trend when I was in middle school, I don’t think it worked then, or now. Clear shoes, again another Y2k-ass trend that looked awful then and does now. And for fuck’s sake THANK YOU ON THE FANNY PACKS. I don’t mind an actual fanny pack, I like a good shoulder bag. I do not understand this fanny-pack on the shoulder look. It’s weird.
    I’m basically down with everything else on this list but most of it was really just “I hate everything Y2K, and regular dudes” apparently. Trend I’ve loved? Sheer knits or lace shirts. That shit can stay, please.

    Every generation has a moment where they appreciate the fashions of their older counterparts. In the late 90’s/2000’s, we wore knickerbockers. That was apparently a big thing in the 70’s and were formulated in the 1800’s. Fashion trends come and go. I think they’re all cool and nostalgic. 🙂
