    I like you used the nightcrawler color in the cloudy rainy day, in my experience if smaller hooks used is better while stock trout are not big enough, but I consider you and Jordan as my teacher always.

    I use a free sliding jigged worm through a tiny top-water lure, that acts as an attractant itself. It helps the bottom worm with a straight up and down motion and appropriately twitches the lure also. I've had some excellent artificial worm fishing with it.

    You need to either run the worm higher, trim the worm tail or J hook the tail back to the hook. The fish are grabbing the just the tail for those nibbles.

    Honestly love to use one with a piece of nightcrawler on the creeks. Size 6 hook, a little split shot about a foot up, and maybe a little scent on the artificial if I'm feeling fancy. Let that baby just drift naturally down, got me a nice 16" & 19" cutty on a little creek by my work last week.

    You need to try blackbirds sabertooth hooks I know that you are in with mustad and they are good strong hooks but the blackbirds are so much sharper and just as quality but more expensive and harder to find but I find I miss fewer fish

  • @k9er233
    @k9er233 ปีที่แล้ว

    All of those fish that are being missed are only grabbing the tail of the worm that is below the bend of the hook as evidenced by the 1/2 worm bit off just behind the hook bend. This can be defeated a couple of ways. One, by threading the worm all the way up the hook over the knot and partway up the line to just leave a very short 'tail' of worm left hanging off the end beyond the bend of the hook. The best way to rig for this is to tie the hook on using a snell knot to make it easier to slide the worm head up on to the line. Or two, by tying a two-hook rig using an inline snell tie-up for the upper hook and the second (tail-hook) at the end of the line, with both hooks spaced just slightly shorter than the length of the worm, which will also leave a very short 'worm-tail' to catch these short strikers. The worm is rigged onto the upper hook leaving a long tail like this video shows, but then the long tail part of the worm is run over the tail-hook to leave only the short tip of the worm past the bend of the tail-hook.The upper hook of the two-hook rig will get those fish that grab the worm from the side, or closer to the head of the worm, and the tail hook will still get the short strikers. This is a freshwater adaptation of a rig used for decades in saltwater for live bait (pileworm) fishing, and works well in freshwater with live nightcrawlers, larger garden worms, and any size of plastic worm. I have seen this type of rig sold commercially using 6-9" plastic bass worms since I was a kid many moons ago, and learned how to tie the inline snell knot so I could adapt it to small plastic worms for trout fishing about 30 years ago. Since going to one of these two rigging methods, I have doubled my hookup rate on those 'shy' fish that strike short and often tear off the back end of a worm rigged like the one in the video.
