Absolutely loved this one. I really enjoy the commentary and the journey you take the audience on for these. Very cool theme and an awesome look on the finished product. Absolutely nailed it. Can't wait for the next one!
Great job! I to am a backyard smith. I have a garage and they tell me it is a lovely place. I should plan a visit sometime! All joking aside, great video and a beautiful knife!
@@mattmakesknives I'd experiment with it, I've tried it on a few different types of steels with different results on each. From what I've mucked around with so far, its better for making a pattern rather than a solid patina.
Don’t throw it away from what I’ve seen it looks great I’d like to see you complete it I’m sure you’ll be glad you did not sure if I can afford any custom knife but than again I just might be able to
Freaking awesome work!!! Watching from Brazil. When i do mostarda patina(I think it only works with steel), the only part that gets stained is the part where doesn't have mostard
@@mattmakesknives I have no doubt sir. Something about my upbringing seems to gravitate toward a Bowie knife. Plus it doesn’t hurt that I liked Bram Stoker’s book so much.
Is nickel silver any good? Nickel silver, with its substantial firmness, can be polished to a high shine. This ability to achieve an almost mirror finish means that it can be used for decorative purposes as well as industrial uses. Nickel silver is stronger and more durable than copper.
You got Matt Walters and Walter Sorells! lol hey first time seeing your videos with TH-cam suggesting. Great build and finish. Do you have a place where you list your work? Best regards from your New York people.
Thank you so much! Haha cool seeing my name mentioned with Walter Sorrells, he's been on YT for a long time now! But yes, I have my work for sale on my website! Cheers from CO 🍻
@13:45 If you had a kiln and you chopped the failed blades, put them in a crucible with powdered steel. You'd be able to melt it down to a solid billet. Unless you think I'm just being silly.
Just curious; why do only certain folks pronounce "buoy" instead of "Bowie"? It rhymes with Joey everywhere else. That's how Rezin Bowie pronounced it. 🤔
On the first I ground it in, and it was sick. But as I was grinding the second I loved the look of the trio of forge texture, wrought, and W2 looked so I left it out. It was something I debated with myself on a bit, but I can understand why you might say it looks incomplete.
I really like the Bowie design. There's just something so iconic about it
It’s a legit design for sure!
Beautiful. The texturing and the guard on it are just gorgeous
Thank you so much! The handle was for sure my favourite part
Beautiful knife!!!!!! Making knives myself love to learn from other Bladesmiths
Thank you! I have learned everything I know from other smiths
I myself am roughly halfway through my first ever Bowie knife build videos like yours are very helpful 👍👍
I'm glad they're helpful!

Thank you!! I appreciate the feedback and encouragement :)
That came out great! Love the lines, and the handle. Really, all of it!
Thank you so much!
THATS A BEAST OF A BOWIE . THAT HANDLE IS WHAT REALLY MAKES IT. REALLY NICE KNIFE , WELL DONE .
Thank you!

The finished knife is very nice! Great advise on the bowie profiles on clip and belly, will keep this in mind.
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Well done, lad. That piece came out beautifully. I’ve heard of the frame tang but had never seen it done. Very cool. Very well done, indeed….
Thank you 🙏 I had seen other smiths make a frame in videos, so it was fun to bring it to life
Great looking bowie!
Thank you!
Super cool that you got to use a little giant!
@@mannsdan yeah it was legit!
I've found with the mustard, the oxidizing/patina that forms is on the uncovered edge of where the mustard is applied.
Interesting…. I may try it again sometime. I totally smothered the pieces, no exposure at all. Maybe that was the problem 🤔

Very nice! Thank you for the video.
Thank you!
Interesting video. Good job!
Thank you!
Dope AF results, @mattwatersbladesmith! Now it needs an equally dope sheath to complete the package!!
@@geraldstamour1312 yes it does!

Excellent work!
Thanks so much!
Awesome video and amazing blade
Thank you so much!
That is a gorgeous knife. I would gladly face any vampire with such a sharp blade.
It would serve you well 🗡

@@harrytuttle1446 It's a seriously good book, and I feel like it may be a bit overlooked.
@@mattmakesknives I would agree. Stocker’s Dracula and Shelley’s Frankenstein are classics.
awesome knife!
Thanks!

Right on! Thanks for the info! I believe the piece on durability . It was a BEAR to bend the guard.
Bladesmiths don’t make mistakes, just smaller knives. I say don’t chop the bad one but transform it into something else.
Right on!! Thanks!
Your Red Stag antler is from a Red Deer.😎👍
Nice! Thanks :)

Does the antler smell funky when you sand it down?

You’re a silly goose
But on the serious note, that’s totally an option. I definitely want to make some crucible steel someday, maybe I’ll save it for that purpose
as we say here in Australia "NOICE"
Thank you very much 🙏

Haha that is interesting, I’m sure I pronounce it completely incorrectly.
Recycle the old blades into belt buckle knives or neck knives?
Both would be sick!
FYI Red Stag antler comes from a Red Stag. Derr?
Is the Dracula Bowie for sale and if so how much
It is! www.watersforgellc.com/shop
Just like 15N20 the nickel silver won't etch. Cold blue will give it a bluish black colour
Why did You resigned from making a false edge? Blade looks kinda incomplete whitout it.

Nice Booie knife.
Thanks!
What do you want for the billit you didn't want
Hmm. Never considered selling it. So I have no idea haha
You must have good neighbors.
Sure do!
The knife that killed Dracula was a wooden stake
In Bram Stokers book (the OG Dracula story) Dracula is killed by two characters, one carried a bowie knife and the other a kukri.
if you want it you can make your own baseball bat sir
Very interesting comment. Thank you sir
