This Ashes series had great chances of being a bummer - Carried huge expectations of an evenly contest between No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams and then the First test was a One-sided affair. This Test match set the tone and this series became immortal - I still remember even the Tri-series with Bangladesh was so exciting!
@@duffy4226 and you call it cheating, lol. Get a life dude, this toxic nature won't get you anywhere. It was not the first time umpires had made the mistake. They make mistakes in almost every matches, including in IPL too. That's what DRS is for, because even they are humans. It was dumb captaincy of Tim Paine, in desperation he took DRS for Leach's wicket, which was clear not out.
As a Sri Lankan watched the initial part of the test and once tge wickets started tumbling as they usually do in the second innings I just stopped. In the night while at a camp, someone tells me we won and I watch the highlights. One the greatest Sri Lankan comebacks.
I was a school kid & I think I wasn't watching it but even Indian news channels were reporting about it the moment that match ended which I happened to see & immediately tuned in wondering what did I miss. I made sure to watch the rest of the series, so saw the match AUS managed to draw as ENG needed probably just 1 Wicket again to win. That was when I realised how a Draw can still be like a win or loss.
But later it was found that the ball hadn't touched the gloves of Kasprowich. But at that time so advanced technology wasn't there. A beautiful sportsmanship was noticed from Kasprowich too.
Of course it’s the best series ever. I don’t think any other test series comes close. The Edgbaston test in 2005, Kolkata in 2001, Headingley 2019 and the Gabba 2021. Test matches that are the greatest of all time and the reason why test cricket is the best form of the game. I have to add Headingley 1981 as well.
For some inexplicable reason, on this final day, my parents thought it would be a great idea for us all to go birdwatching. For as long as we all shall live, I will never, ever forgive them for it.
Two key moments in this match: - In england's second innings, we had one of their batsmen plumb LBW. Hit him on the full, low on his pad, right in front. The umpire said "not out". England went on to score another 10 or so runs before we finished them off. The umpire's excuse? "I didn't see it!" - Kasper's glove was not on the bat. Australia won that game, or would have had the umpires been at all competent.
It's so stupid that they use Phil Hughes death consolation gesture photos to emphasis the word 'dying'. That's disrespectful to say the least. Also this list is so stupid. I have only seen two are three but apart from the Kolkata test I have seen nothing worthy. For example the first one, how does a single ball by Shane Warne changed cricket?
Did the Edgbaston game change cricket, though? It was a key moment in ending Australia's Ashes dominance, but it's hard to suggest that it changed the game. I've only just noticed the series is about the 25 years Cricinfo has been around, so it can't include actual game-changers like the invention of overarm bowling, intimidatory bowling laws, the front-foot no-ball, helmets and so on.
Alfred Johnson well surely the end of an era of dominance changed the game in allowing other teams to create an era of dominance. Which is pretty important
@@bazmendes2033 LB is a tricky judgement of what might of happened... Caught should be straight forward, and when I saw it live I thought he was out too, this is why DRS exists now.
@cricinfo, can you please clarify a few things? 1. Why is the intro so erroneous? If you wanted to compile a series about your 25 years, why not use actual iconic pictures from cricket? The Eden gardens test and 9/11 bombing on a 1996 timeline? Cricinfo grew in fame parallell with cricket so we expect better from you. 2. Did your team get only a day's time from each cricketer? Ian Chappell is in the same spot in each video. It seems so forced and artificial. Did you stop by on his holiday?
You've got to be kidding me with #2. Go watch BBC's official Ashes '05 episodes and tell me if Stephen Fry was interviewed in 15 different places in his house.
This is a great series of clips but if you whatch them all the Australian teams from the 90s though to 2010 couldn't bat bowl or field. Yep I forgot how bad Waugh, Warn, Gilly, Ponting, McGrath, Hayden, Slater were. They were only in the side because we had no one else. The real players of this time only ever came from Inda and England. Clearly whoever made this series has never seen these guys play. They were freaks the kind we won't see again All record holders in there own rite. But not one positive story about any of them.
Murray's mints? No comments? Great series though. I don't blame them, even a world XI couldn't beat them. Looking forward to another Aussie whitewash soon enough.
This is a crap video - missed Shane Warne's ball to Strauss. Harmison ball slower ball to Clarke... Such a poor summary to such a iconic moment in Test Cricket.
No it's dead. It's disrespectful to bowlers. They run up and bowl. Only to have the batsman let it go with no repurcussion. Again and again. That's why limited overs is important.

Love that pic of Andrew and Brett, 2 of my favourite players ever

I remember watching this match and jumping while my dad thought I was stupid to even consider watching the whole day of a test match.
That series was something else.
It inspired millions to play cricket for England and Australia
I love test cricket more than any other format.
