I didnt have too much of an issue being automatically opted in for the extras. I paid for all of them. It is worth pointing out that you will get a notification letter advising that the extra item will be included with the next delivery and you can contact customer services to opt out of that.
I wonder if the removed commissar and autach will come back as optional characters packs. I'd occasionally get unique characters with the Storm bringer sub, ogre tyrant, dark elf assassin to name a few

So, Hachette increased the individiaul price from 11€ to 15€ and also stretched everything to 90 issues? That´s an hilarious price increase. And btw, your calculation is still with 80 issues, but it´s 90, so the overall cost is 882,11£
One of the great ways of looking at this collection is that by the end effectively you have a 2-9 player board game version on 40k. I have quite a lot of friends who enjoy playing board games but would find learning and playing with a full 40k army daunting as a first. This could be a great learning curve to bring new players in from friendship groups at a smaller scale, and them having the ability to test out multiple factions rather than paying for a bunch of army books and models etc before deciding.
When this was first announced I was very excited to sub, but in the months since I've cooled considerably on it. With Battleforces and other new kits constantly coming out, I just don't think it's realistic to sign myself up for 7 combat patrols for armies I don't collect. Leviathan already pulled me into Space Marines and Tyranids when previously I only had TSons and Chaos Knights. I don't think I need to collect 11 armies...
@megabiv3246 that's where I'm at right now. I'd rather buy new kits for armies I'm already invested in than get a ton of random stuff tacked onto a handful of things I like. The "deal" is tempting, but I feel like most of the allure is being able to tell myself I'm "saving money"

The value isn't that great, a lot of issues are paints and accessories that you'll already have, and then a good deal of that value is based on retail prices for kits that you'd never buy at retail prices. I hung in there long enough to get a few kits I wanted, but after I canceled I wished I'd just bought the kits I wanted in the first place.
I’m excited for it in the United States, I’ve long since built and painted my own armies and love the modeling painting side of the hobby, for me this is a constant stream of projects for me to do as a hobby and hell I can always gift a fully painted combat patrol to friends and new players
its pretty scammy. Buy the pieces you want online, or if ur looking for a discount this is not the way. Go to ur LGS with 2 paychecks in cash, ask to make a big preorder with the employee discount. You might have to ask 3 stores, but %30 off is worth it
Regarding the additional books, you get a letter to advise you will receive and be charged for them unless you opt out, which you can do with a simple email. Just be sure to check what you have been sent with each delivery.
Can confirm that my local WHSmith carried it, but it was based on myself and a couple of others asking. My Asda carried it, but dropped fairly early in the run due to supposed lack of interest. Idk of it was an experience unique to mine, but WHSmith were dispatched two copies of each issue, with the ability to order and hold additional copies on request. So i would say if that’s the way you might to go about it, register interest with your local store
Every store gets issue 1-4 then it moves to subscription only. Then it's up to individual stores to decide if they want to order It in weekly. WH Smith tends to do it based on interest. If people go in for them they will keep getting them but if they're left on shelves they will stop with the first few

The reason Warhammer+ isn't available here outside of using a VPN to sub, is the lack of French language options. Canada has become quite anti-consumer when a company can't accommodate both our official languages.

Hachette Canada is run like a cheap dropchiping mafia, the delivery happen whenever they feel like it, the stuff you get is clearly unsold stocks from europe that spend 2 years in a warehouse (you can tell by the state of the paints), and ofc everything related to rules is outdated its by the time it shows up in Canada the next edition is already out. If you are from Canada I suggest you only pick up the first 6 issues, get the decent discount on the stuff and the unique mini and cancel afterward.
Subscribing for the entire run is no doubt a good deal for saving money overall, but it requires you to want all of them. If you aren't interested in even one of the combat patrols, you're basically getting those bonus models not in regular combat patrol boxes and hobby tools for "free" and a box of basic infantry worth of savings. Also, the price for the full length subscription is high enough you could get a full 2000-3000 point army at GW prices. You might even be able to squeeze two full 2000 point army cores for the premium subscription worth if you pick discount kits smartly.
Somewhat this is good slow drip for this hobby, while in the end its not going to accumulate into 2000 points army, at least you can taste (almost) all army in 40K
You can get a solid 1500 points of CSM if you run the Berserkers via Cult and if you run the Jakhals as Cultists. You could also squeeze another 140pts by using the 2 Guard squads as Traitor guard. That's only 360pts to make up for 2k. I guess you could make the SM Termis into renegades as well, that'd be another 185pts.
I think this is a Loss-leader strategy (compared to GW's normal profits)... They release a base army you get for a low cost. It spaces it out so it doesn't feel like a lot of money, and you keep coming back. That way, if you want to play the army in any other way, you need to spend money.
I'd love a subscription but fat chance it'll be available in the Netherlands. And even if it is, it'll probably get held hostage by customs who want an extra 30%.
As a tyranids player I would love to have some more leapers, I'm too precious about models to use them for bits, but getting them mega cheap might help with that, leapers have some great kitbashing potential. Otherwise, I just like the models so having more of them won't hurt. I'm very excited about Parasite of Mortrex prices going down, they're not super good right now as far as I know, but it's a sick model and I want one
There was a White Dwarf Issue that had a Combat Patrol that uses Three(!!!) units of them, so that issue is worth picking up so you could field it if you have that WD.
As a Ultramarine player, I'm gonna check out Wh Smith's in the first few weeks, pick up the infernus marines, terminators and hopefully the exclusive marine. But subscribing just doesn't seem worth the cost, I only play one army (bar Agents/Knights as Allys), I just think I'll end up with a pile of grey that'll never get used, who needs to start 9 armies?
Infernus sgt could have been something a little more attractive. Literally no way that anyone has infernus marines that need a sgt. The imperium run gave you a unique captain, nothing too fancy but you could add him to any marine army.
The extra magazine and model for strombringer was great. Lots of cheap characters. Also my local newsagents allows me to pre order weeks in advance. I am gonna get a few 1k army's this run
I missed out on Conquest. Took part in Imperium and felt it was worth it... but waiting to buy Combat Patrols over the course of a year plus.... Kinda feels bad. More so when you think about it in terms of the boxes rotating out for what is legal to play in that particular game type. Now if you are just collecting the minis because you/your play group have the armies then I figured it might be something to look into. The magazines tend to sell out pretty quick on the site so if you wanted to try and snag particular issues... Be quicker or miss out and need to go to Feebay.
GW said ALL published rules for Combat Patrols will be valid when they launched the format, so even OOP sets are valid if you have the Datasheets PDF download or WD issue.
I got that primaris company champion a while back and he currently serves as my Bladeguard style captain. Took a spare Bladeguard lieutenant's shield, slapped it on the champion's back and added a chapter specific left shoulder guard. Far less busy of a model. Could also serve as a great alternative for the Emperor's champion model in a Black Templar's army. It'd also probably look great as a Dark Angel character with a little hobby love.

The World Eaters, CSM, and Space Marines will be reinforcement to my existing armies. The Genestealers and Astra Militarium I plan to combine into a single Genestealer cult army. I know I can trade/sell Aeldari, Votann, and Orks in my local community of players at least at cost or maybe a little profit. That just leave the Tyranids that as you said everyone has them so I guess I will just keep them as a rainy day project.

What do you think the price per combat patrol is going to be? There are 90 issues. 10 are going to be paints etc. Plus maybe some others leaving a combat patrol to be split over 8 issues? At £10 per issue that's £80. Which is what you pay at Wayland Games for one.
Ah nostalgia for the days of Imperium when I ordered 20 copies of issue 1 to make 20 immortals out of the royal wardens, and 12 bladeguard, some extra fancy primaris sergeants, a primaris librarian and all the weapon options for lieutenants out of the indomitus lieutenants
Just remember they don't like putting more than one sprue in the magazine. So units tend to be over two issues deminishing the discount a fair bit when buying individual issues.
I'm pretty sure the Aeldari, Astra Militarum and Votann boxes are also the 9th edition boxes, because they've not been replaced. The only reason they went with the new SM & Tyranid patrols is because their old 9th patrols didn't get ported into the new game type.
A reminder, most mainstream newsagents will normally get up to issue 10 on a Sale or Return basis, though many smaller newsagents will ask the supplier to stop sending after the first couple if they don't sell. After issue ten they stop being able to send back unsold copies for credit with the supplier.
If you've got the space to keep the models, I've found these magazine series to be pretty solid investments. I collected the whole Conquest series a few years ago, and managed to sell all the unbuilt kits last year for about 20% more than the magazines cost me.

Decided to go for it with premium sub direct with Hachette, so far their customer service has been awesome and getting back to me with questions very fast. The magazine looks really nice to me, but im not really interested in most of the armies, but id love to be able to get some single issues for Tyranids to shore up my leviathan 'nids, but i also want to get the kits for World Eaters and CSM. Main problem is that i have no idea where i could get single issues in the US I have some friends who are interested in Orks and Aeldari, so figuring out how to get those single issues would be perfect for getting them into the game

@@nick1635 You can get 20% in UK from various retailers, so if you are not interested in paints and supplies, you can (theoretically) get all the models for £929, albeit some on the combat patrols are the older versions. This saving is so much worse than imperium and conquest, I for me the sub is just not worth it.
I've been subbed to the AOS Stormbringer collection and, although there were a few teething problems on the first couple of issues, it's since been fantastic service from Hachette and from Royal Mail - I even get an email from Royal Mail saying when my parcel will be delivered and approximately time now along with tracking details - Our local postie is a gem also, they leave it in a nice spot in the back garden if i'm not in! Ironically though, I've still got the majority of the Stormbringer collection to assemble and paint (it's been a busy 2024 for me, not much time to hobby) and just as Stormbringer is finishing, Combat Patrol is starting hahaha!! Pray for me and my never-ending pile of grey!!!
On one hand, that is great value, and I always want me marines and plastic. On the other hand, I do not need 3 Terminator Captains, even more infernus marines, etc. Guess I have a few months before I need to decide, being in the US

Being fresh off of the last 40k subscription, I'm going to have to think very carefully about opting onto this one. Need to weigh up whether or not my draw to this is because I actually want/need it, or if I'm just falling into FOMO. Luckily, it looks like I won't have to come to a decision until January 2025.

I think the value calculations are using an incorrect number for the full cost. You have 787 GBP but with 90 issues I think it should be around 887 GBP.
Iv been collecting warhammer for about 17 years now and I have never actually played a game of it 😂 so this suits me perfectly plenty of models to practice on and if I get them all built and primed and on the shelfs it will almost certainly expand an all of them when I get a inspired paint scheme
Works out to be just over a grand long term With all those minis plus what ever extras they slap on top probably works out a bit cheaper Plus I'd also probably not pick up some of these armies but painting them will be fun and get some extras for the ones I do collect
I am kinda hyped for this, not really into 10th ed, but the minis are nice, and this way I can build up a quite nice collection. Also I am a sucker for those extra items like maps and such, this should be fun!
You always had to OPT OUT for binders which is really annoying. There should be a option at the subscription page if you want the additional binders or not.
your calcs are also wrong :) it works out as £889.10 (88×9.99+6.99+2.99). Also if you subscribe one issue is free so its really £879.11. You also get all the paints, and the extra things if you subscribe, if you consider those as any added value.

I believe generally that the Premium Subscription options are for UK only, I know we couldn't get them here in Australia, which was very disappointing.
Word of advice for anyone going all in on the sub. If you pick up issue 1-3 in store then choose to subscribe from Issue 4 on the site you will get issue 5 free (so £10 instead of the £7 issue 2) and will only have to pay the extra £2 for premium from issue 4 onwards saving another few quid
I'm lucky that I live near a hobby store that gets a handful of Imperium in every time it's released, hopefully this series will come out here too so I can pick and choose the issues I want. I want a couple of those Terminator Captains for kitbashing!

Im fairly new and taking a fairly slow approach to gaming. More modelling but building my armies slowly. If you aren't interested in even one of the combat patrols, you're basically getting those bonus models not in regular combat patrol boxes and hobby tools for "free" and a box of basic infantry worth of savings.
Also, the price for the full length subscription is high enough you could get a full 2000-3000 point army at GW prices. You might even be able to squeeze two full 2000 point army cores for the premium subscription worth if you pick discount kits smartly.
Im not interested in 75% of the magazine line so picking and choosing is my way to go.
Somewhat this is good slow drip for this hobby, while in the end its not going to accumulate into 2000 points army, at least you can taste (almost) all army in 40K
I mean if you just want to try painting and building models from a faction you don't have this is good
Plus you can play the combat patrol game with so many factions.
You can get a solid 1500 points of CSM if you run the Berserkers via Cult and if you run the Jakhals as Cultists. You could also squeeze another 140pts by using the 2 Guard squads as Traitor guard. That's only 360pts to make up for 2k.
I guess you could make the SM Termis into renegades as well, that'd be another 185pts.
I think this is a Loss-leader strategy (compared to GW's normal profits)... They release a base army you get for a low cost. It spaces it out so it doesn't feel like a lot of money, and you keep coming back. That way, if you want to play the army in any other way, you need to spend money.

I'd love a subscription but fat chance it'll be available in the Netherlands. And even if it is, it'll probably get held hostage by customs who want an extra 30%.

As a tyranids player I would love to have some more leapers, I'm too precious about models to use them for bits, but getting them mega cheap might help with that, leapers have some great kitbashing potential. Otherwise, I just like the models so having more of them won't hurt. I'm very excited about Parasite of Mortrex prices going down, they're not super good right now as far as I know, but it's a sick model and I want one
There was a White Dwarf Issue that had a Combat Patrol that uses Three(!!!) units of them, so that issue is worth picking up so you could field it if you have that WD.

As someone who has all the fanatic and speed paints from army painter, this is amazing. So many different minis to paint
As a Ultramarine player, I'm gonna check out Wh Smith's in the first few weeks, pick up the infernus marines, terminators and hopefully the exclusive marine. But subscribing just doesn't seem worth the cost, I only play one army (bar Agents/Knights as Allys), I just think I'll end up with a pile of grey that'll never get used, who needs to start 9 armies?
Infernus sgt could have been something a little more attractive. Literally no way that anyone has infernus marines that need a sgt. The imperium run gave you a unique captain, nothing too fancy but you could add him to any marine army.
The extra magazine and model for strombringer was great.
Lots of cheap characters.
Also my local newsagents allows me to pre order weeks in advance.

I missed out on Conquest. Took part in Imperium and felt it was worth it... but waiting to buy Combat Patrols over the course of a year plus.... Kinda feels bad.
More so when you think about it in terms of the boxes rotating out for what is legal to play in that particular game type.
Now if you are just collecting the minis because you/your play group have the armies then I figured it might be something to look into.
The magazines tend to sell out pretty quick on the site so if you wanted to try and snag particular issues... Be quicker or miss out and need to go to Feebay.
GW said ALL published rules for Combat Patrols will be valid when they launched the format, so even OOP sets are valid if you have the Datasheets PDF download or WD issue.
I got that primaris company champion a while back and he currently serves as my Bladeguard style captain. Took a spare Bladeguard lieutenant's shield, slapped it on the champion's back and added a chapter specific left shoulder guard. Far less busy of a model.
Could also serve as a great alternative for the Emperor's champion model in a Black Templar's army. It'd also probably look great as a Dark Angel character with a little hobby love.

its even cheaper at forbidden planet for students because of discount that is about 20% (i think), in 9th edition i got a whole redemptor dreadnought for about £18
The World Eaters, CSM, and Space Marines will be reinforcement to my existing armies. The Genestealers and Astra Militarium I plan to combine into a single Genestealer cult army. I know I can trade/sell Aeldari, Votann, and Orks in my local community of players at least at cost or maybe a little profit. That just leave the Tyranids that as you said everyone has them so I guess I will just keep them as a rainy day project.

What do you think the price per combat patrol is going to be? There are 90 issues. 10 are going to be paints etc. Plus maybe some others leaving a combat patrol to be split over 8 issues? At £10 per issue that's £80. Which is what you pay at Wayland Games for one.
I appreciate GW doing this, but the last discount I need is on the contents of the starter sets.
I've always been on the fence about starting Eldar, maybe I'll pick it up when the Space Marine and Tyranid sections are done.
Ah nostalgia for the days of Imperium when I ordered 20 copies of issue 1 to make 20 immortals out of the royal wardens, and 12 bladeguard, some extra fancy primaris sergeants, a primaris librarian and all the weapon options for lieutenants out of the indomitus lieutenants

Just remember they don't like putting more than one sprue in the magazine. So units tend to be over two issues deminishing the discount a fair bit when buying individual issues.
yeah the wraithlord for example might not be good value if its split across two different issues, same for the termigaunts.
I'm pretty sure the Aeldari, Astra Militarum and Votann boxes are also the 9th edition boxes, because they've not been replaced.
The only reason they went with the new SM & Tyranid patrols is because their old 9th patrols didn't get ported into the new game type.
I'm hoping the next mag, will be LOTR.

A reminder, most mainstream newsagents will normally get up to issue 10 on a Sale or Return basis, though many smaller newsagents will ask the supplier to stop sending after the first couple if they don't sell.
After issue ten they stop being able to send back unsold copies for credit with the supplier.
I think my subscription money needs to go to my big Blood Angels project. I won't have time to play around with combat patrols either.

If you've got the space to keep the models, I've found these magazine series to be pretty solid investments. I collected the whole Conquest series a few years ago, and managed to sell all the unbuilt kits last year for about 20% more than the magazines cost me.
I was genuinely considering this. Bar a few I would keep or sell on to my mates for cheap. We're you able to recover the costs for the paint issues? They are not worth the cost of the issue so did you struggle to sell them?
@Burdenist I tended to keep the paints and hobby tools for myself, but even with keeping them I still easily made back the costs.

Decided to go for it with premium sub direct with Hachette, so far their customer service has been awesome and getting back to me with questions very fast. Worst case I can sell off what I don't use or give away to family and friends to fight against me with. win win. :D I also picked up a second number five magazine pre order from forbidden planet so I got a second new sergeant model.

The magazine looks really nice to me, but im not really interested in most of the armies, but id love to be able to get some single issues for Tyranids to shore up my leviathan 'nids, but i also want to get the kits for World Eaters and CSM. Main problem is that i have no idea where i could get single issues in the US
I have some friends who are interested in Orks and Aeldari, so figuring out how to get those single issues would be perfect for getting them into the game

@@nick1635 You can get 20% in UK from various retailers, so if you are not interested in paints and supplies, you can (theoretically) get all the models for £929, albeit some on the combat patrols are the older versions. This saving is so much worse than imperium and conquest, I for me the sub is just not worth it.
I've been subbed to the AOS Stormbringer collection and, although there were a few teething problems on the first couple of issues, it's since been fantastic service from Hachette and from Royal Mail - I even get an email from Royal Mail saying when my parcel will be delivered and approximately time now along with tracking details - Our local postie is a gem also, they leave it in a nice spot in the back garden if i'm not in!
Ironically though, I've still got the majority of the Stormbringer collection to assemble and paint (it's been a busy 2024 for me, not much time to hobby) and just as Stormbringer is finishing, Combat Patrol is starting hahaha!! Pray for me and my never-ending pile of grey!!!

Being fresh off of the last 40k subscription, I'm going to have to think very carefully about opting onto this one. Need to weigh up whether or not my draw to this is because I actually want/need it, or if I'm just falling into FOMO.
Luckily, it looks like I won't have to come to a decision until January 2025.
I really hope that I can subscribe in the U.S. and get all these great deals. If I can't get the stuff they're promising because I am not in the U.K. I will be pretty disappointed.

with the opt in on things like binders. they do actually e-mail you in advance about it and give you about 1 month notice in advance about the item the are trying to sell you that your opt into to say and give you the option of if you want to opt out of this extra item their trying to sell you.
I think the value calculations are using an incorrect number for the full cost. You have 787 GBP but with 90 issues I think it should be around 887 GBP.
Iv been collecting warhammer for about 17 years now and I have never actually played a game of it 😂 so this suits me perfectly plenty of models to practice on and if I get them all built and primed and on the shelfs it will almost certainly expand an all of them when I get a inspired paint scheme

I am kinda hyped for this, not really into 10th ed, but the minis are nice, and this way I can build up a quite nice collection. Also I am a sucker for those extra items like maps and such, this should be fun!

You always had to OPT OUT for binders which is really annoying. There should be a option at the subscription page if you want the additional binders or not.

Your calcs are wrong. It is £892.10. That is about an 11% discount over a 20% like Wayland for the products from what I can see
your calcs are also wrong :) it works out as £889.10 (88×9.99+6.99+2.99). Also if you subscribe one issue is free so its really £879.11. You also get all the paints, and the extra things if you subscribe, if you consider those as any added value.

I did also take the paints into account in my estimate. 82% of the price of a 20% discount retailer just on the mags
I believe generally that the Premium Subscription options are for UK only, I know we couldn't get them here in Australia, which was very disappointing.
So are they going to run models in order? Like you'll get the space marine and tyranid full combat patrols before starting the other armies?
I plan on ordering a couple of the Marines and maybe the World Eaters for conversions
Word of advice for anyone going all in on the sub. If you pick up issue 1-3 in store then choose to subscribe from Issue 4 on the site you will get issue 5 free (so £10 instead of the £7 issue 2) and will only have to pay the extra £2 for premium from issue 4 onwards saving another few quid
Can you subscribe at any point then? Ie if you don't want SM or Tyranids you can wait a few issues?

Personally I would subscribe and sell of what you don’t want, it was a little difficult to find issues of the Stormbringer magazine at times and you had to really keep on top of what was being released

Yep I am REALLY into this idea. Im on the verge of buying a 2nd Leviathan Tyranid set rather than jts combat patrol but with this I can get all the other stuff too.
I only really want the Nids and the World Eaters. But I know enougb folks that night want the rest I can sell on.
It does sound a bit silly, but a Deamon Prince and the WE Combat patrol would cost me 120 quid anyways and a 3rd Hive tyrant couldnt hurt rigbt? Besides, I do want ti bulj out my Nid grunts...hmmm what to do
