I worked and lived in Taif for 3 years from 1989-1992 but would often go down to Jeddah at the weekend. I learnt to dive and went from PADI Open Water to Instructor and logged around a hundred dives around Jeddah. There were so many great dives. For example at places like Shoiba ( North or South of the Desalinatiion plant) where we would camp, or boat dives, or more convienent locations like Al Nakheel. The Mecca wreak, south of Jeddah, near the Naval base, was another great dive, but a very long walk out. In thoses days I can only remember about 4 dives shops in Jeddah, Red Sea Divers (Old), Red Sea Divers (New), Desert Divers, and The Arab Circumnavigator. Jeddah has clearly changed a lot since then, as has Saudi as a whole. Good luck, enjoy Saudi and your diving
I got certified in Jeddah in 1979! My dad flew for Saudia. I cant believe how its changed. We used to dive the Cornish, had a semi pet Moray eel there, but our favorite place was way out at the palms. Red Coral grew wild. I dove with so many sharks, giant grouper,Sun fish. Seeing your dive site is unbelievable. We just parked on the side of the road, got out our gear, and walked 1/4 mile on the dead reef until we hit open ocean. I’d love to see more!
This is too cool, thank you for sharing! Sounds like you had a pretty epic diving experience there - I’m low-key jealous 😂 We’ve actually got another video to be edited where we were with CNN and they were doing a segment on diving in the Red Sea here in Saudi. You’ll have to watch out for that - went out to a really cool wreck.
I lived in Jeddah for 4 years from 88-92 and I have never seen the water with that greenish hue. The dredging and silt started a long time ago though, but thats really sad to see.
Hmm it’ll vary. I believe the Open Water qualification was about 1,500 SAR or so. As for the equipment, you can either rent these from a dive shop or you can buy your own. It’ll depend on how much you’re going to be diving. As I do not dive a lot, I only bought my own goggles, fins, boots and wetsuit. I still rent the weights and BCD. Hope that helps! If you need an instructor, let me know and I can share his details.
.Peace be upon you. I am Maher, a Syrian, living in Lebanon. I am an orphan. Father is six years old. The oldest one of my family. My mother is sick. Our condition is difficult. I tied bread that I could not find.
