      I have 2 TVs one for my bedroom, 1 for living room area one of my bedroom is a 43” RCA RTU4300 and the RCA TV had no problems other than some motion blur. Price I paid at London drugs was $249.99 cad before tax. London drugs, retail price.$299.99cad but if you go over to Staples, they will charge you $449.99cad for the exact same TV I got the RCA either in 2020 or 2021 and I use it with my Xbox in my bedroom. I will warn you the speakers are junk they sound horrific, so I recommend if you buy the RCA TV to get a sound bar or something that has optical audio to get good audio out of it at least also, I never noticed the motion blur in the games. Also I never noticed the motion blur other than in this test.
      I also have a Sony Brvia X800G 49” that I got on Black Friday 2019 haven’t tested it yet

      imagine watching this video on a 165hz monitor and being like WTF, why is all the motion so crap?! The monitor is using one of the most acclaimed 27" LG panels that is great, so it should not have such obvious problems.
      I watched the other video and there is still problems there from encoding or probably youtube compression.

    95% of the time people can't notice DSE or banding in real world content and that's what matters, there's a good saying in the TV community: " If you look for a problem you will find it".

      I agree - but this is a great deal for a brand new TV. If you just dropped thousands on a new flagship model then this test should be run to make sure you don’t have to return the unit.
      Ex: if you got a great deal on a floor model OLED.

      I wish I couldn't see it. However working in retail being the lead TV sales agent I could spot a issue a mile away. Really had me hating my role as I could see issues on some very high end TV. Grey scales and DSE being a issue.

      Considering TVs today are mass manufactured in such high units to keep the prices low and consumers happy, there will unfortunately still be high numbers of defective units, especially with LCDs as they require a lot more parts and manufacturing steps. Best thing to do is check the TV as soon as you get it, see if you're fine with the quality or not, and exchange it or keep it.

    Since the test is at 30fps, it causes slight some jitter on my phone screen (just testing it to see if it got such weird effects or anything due to the fact it's running continuously for 13 hours per day ranging from PDFs to gaming to classes and even TH-cam). So maybe updating the video to run with 60fps might help more on that part

    LG 50 inch Plazma TV, 1080p 60hz purchased in June 2013.
    All I can say is, is that at the time of this comment my TV is still going strong like new and looks better than a lot of these 4k HDR televisions you get today; nice deep blacks. And cost me £500 then.
    My test was clear, it was pleasent seeing the colours.

      Same. I have an old LG Plasma. 1080p. 60”. Only one lousy hdmi port. I don’t know what year, but it was towards the end of plasma production.
      Tiny bit of blooming with white text on black screen. Some burn in from playing red dead redemption. Not the smoothest motion by today’s standards, but of course great for cinematic viewing.
      Colors and gradients are absolutely spot on still after all these years, and I would be nervous to replace this tv with a new one with “better specs.”

    I ran the video on a 1 year old CX OLED and it’s REALLY amazing, perfect colors and no banding, etc. The only strange thing is with the motion test. I usually watch things on Film Maker mode, with all “enhancements” off. In this mode the panning letters are very difficult to read, they simply become blurry to my eyes. In Standard mode it’s better, but in Sports mode it becomes very smooth. The thing is: I think the film maker is doing what it should, showing the panning text without smoothing it. Any other oled owner noticed the same?

    • @davekagels2633
      @davekagels2633 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The 24p judder, as it's known, on most OLED TVs is horrible. My parents have the LG C1 48" and other than the panning judder, they really enjoy filmmaker mode and the tv overall, especially the inky blacks. My father edited a tv show he worked on in Canada for awhile, and can confirm, filmmaker mode is definitely the most accurate mode out of the box.

    One can’t assess the TVs motion control by a 30fps video…
    It should be at least at 60fps.

    Just remember. If you are returning the tv return it to the store. Don't wait to use manufacturer warranty. Especially with edge lit displays, the manufacturer won't cover light spots around the edges, or flashlighting unless you're convinced it's the most extreme example you can clearly provide on a non black or darker image of the screen.

  • @lukeskywalker2405

    None of these tests highlight any faults just performance. DSE occurs on the majority of LCD screens, motion will only be smooth if frame rate interpolation is turned on, and blooming is a natural feature of full array local dimming tech. Implying these are faults is misleading.

    • @ArcadianGenesis
      @ArcadianGenesis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect you're right, but that really sucks ass. Why is newer technology worse than older technology? My 2021 Full Array LED had very noticeable banding on light backgrounds, which I can see when gaming. My 2015 edge lit LED didn't have that problem.

    Honestly don't do any of this stuff unless you've got a screen burn warranty. No TV is perfect and you'll just keep looking for these issues once you've noticed them and stop enjoying the content.

  • @JxH
    @JxH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I can see in the comments here that Subtitle Scrolling jaggies is a common "issue" found in this test, and switching on Motion Smoothing "fixes it". But turning on Motion Smoothing is generally NOT recommend by other videophile sources. So, pass this test or obey the other advice. Likely depends on what you're watching.

    • @filip9587
      @filip9587 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motion smoothing is mainly meant for the soap opera effect and it's usually meant to be used on 120hz capable TVs.

    • @JxH
      @JxH 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then it's funny that's included on so many 60 Hz televisions... :-)

    • @paulcox2447
      @paulcox2447 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stutter, the doubling of something as it's pans across the screen is not cinematic. Film makers try and limit panning speed to reduce it
      However, LCD and OLED sample and hold display is a lot more stuttery to the human eye.
      Suffering with excessive jutter is not worth it. These TV's cost so much partially because of the computer to help optimize the picture.
      These displays are meant to be watched first and foremost. Subjective evaluation is very important and not all motion is the same.

    • @filip9587
      @filip9587 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JxH The soap opera effect works better on more fluid displays (120hz capable ones) but as TVs have been capped at 60hz for so many years (with low end models still offering it as the minimum), and as there are still people who use motion smoothing, 60hz is still tolerable and smooth enough for users to get enjoyment out of it.

    Living room Vizio looks great. No banding, no dark spot in middle just small ones on the corner as mentioned. Now on our bedroom TV I've noticed without the test for awhile that color in the middle of the screen looked Grey on people faces. On colors yellow and pink you can see a huge affected spot. The tvs were given to us so I'm not too worried about warranty, they are working so ehh lol. But very cool test!!

    I just ran this on my 77 inch LG CX and it came out completely clean. No image retention, no DSE and the picture still looks great after 3 years of use. I actually got the first one replaced after one week since there was a big black spot right in the middle of the screen that wasn’t quite visible but made itself shown in really dark scenes where that area was completely black instead of being dimmed down. It drove me crazy even though nobody else in the house saw it. I know it’s a 3 year old model but it’s still going strong and i was someone that upgraded TVs on a yearly basis, but this CX still looks great.

    Perfect pass. TV is half a year old or something. What was amazing, was the intelligent frame creation during the motion test. Turning it full on and full off are worlds of smoothness an flicker. Thing is, that you sometimes want that "flicker" on.

    Excellent test video! I just tried it out on my Samsung UA43TU8000WXXY.
    Yes, I did see some "dirty screen effect." and some motion blurring of the subtitles.
    But get this Mate.... About a year and a half ago in the place I was living, we experienced some massive devastating floods here in Northern NSW Australia. At the time I had the TV setup in an outdoor entertainment area. Along came the flood waters, and the TV was then inundated by the flood waters.
    The bottom 1/3rd of the TV was submerged UNDERWATER! for approximately 2 days!
    About a week later, I was getting ready to take it off its wall, mount prior to dumping it out on the road, ready for the council flood clean up. It was then, (as I had nothing to lose) I decided to power it up to see what might happen.
    I fully expected it to 1: either do nothing at all or 2: perhaps even catch on fire (I had a fire extinguisher nearby just in case it did actually catch on fire!) What then happened, and I could hardly believe my eyes, was that the screen powered back on!!!
    There was a lot of ghosting along the bottom of the screen for a few weeks. but it was still doing everything a smart TV should, and all the HDMI inputs where still working! The screen over the next few weeks dried out and became clearer and clearer to the point where it is no longer even noticeable. (Except for when running your video test)
    I still have this TV and it still works, just about perfectly, to this day! 😆

    77 inch Sony A9G OLED. Had for about a year or two now. Had to set cinimotion to custom and smoothness to max to reduce stuttering of scrolling text but passed with flying colours.
    (Honestly didn’t know what settings to adjust and many videos didn’t help me notice a difference when tuning the settings. This helped perfect the settings adjustments. Thanks!)

    Good test. I have an LG C7 I bought a few years ago and the only test that showed some degradation is the Hot Pink screen. The test did show minor burn in but nothing to be concerned about. Realize this TV was used heavily for gaming. If that is all that has degraded over 5 years of use I couldn’t be happier.

    My Panasonic tx40cx400e is suffering badly from dirty screen effect as is shown on 40" in this demonstration. It suddenly started a couple of weeks ago; the tv is six years old, many people say that is the ultimate age for hd-tv's nowadays. Hmm.
    My question: it's an Edge-Lit. Now would a Direct-Led be better to avoid these problems, or would it make no difference whatsoever?
    I hope and thank for an answer; I know Oled and Full Array tv's and such are better, but these things are way too huge for my place!

    i have used a Vizio E32-C1 as a computer monitor for about 7 years now. crisp graphics or fonts have a bit of jittery motion at 30fps, and get a tad bit blury at 60fps. There is a small amount of burn-in along the top of the screen where my browser tabs/url bar would be, but its only visible on the one grey screen during the test. I do use a dark theme on browser so that could be helpful.
    overall im thoroughly impressed that there is not anything more as this screen probably has thousands (possibly even tens of thousands) or hours with a browser window open
