- I can't believe I just found this coin here at a place we have been metal detecting for 5 years. I was digging through the sheet metal, cans and junk when I locked on to a good 86 signal with my Fisher F19. I opened up the ground and was pulling out nail, bailing wire and shards when I shifted the dirt and seen a silver edge. OMG ! that is a huge coin ! When I pulled it out of the dirt it I could not believe it. 1821 Silver capped bust half dollar in fantastic condition. I was right in-between two cellar holes that are loaded with all kinds of trash and junk but we always pick good relics out of.

That must have been a huge loss for whoever lost that coin! I cannot imagine how that loss effected both the individual and the family. It was a great find Charlie!
Can you imagine this guy trying to explain losing that coin to his wife? I came home drunk one time and hid 2,500 Dollars in the Bible on the top of the TV, the rent was due and I did not find it until 3 months later. I know painfully well what my wife thought!

I built a metal detector out of old television components from all the ones donated and later tossed in the trash when I was twelve.
Now in my 50s I now have 2 Whites, 2 Garretts and 2 Minelab besides. I have been out countless times and I have never not found something... Although lately I have been a fair weather detectist, meaning when it is raining. nice dirt you're digging... Nice find. The gold coin is out there too. I find that there always is.

To think of the value of 50 cents back then surely hurt! 50 cents in 1821 had a purchasing value of $1342.31 back in the day! Congrats excellent find!

Think it’s worth digging up all the garbage and get it out of the way. Sometimes that’s where I find some of my best finds usually where other people pass up. Before the cans was the relics. Just takes a little more work. Hope you go back.

I havn't been in the hobby for very long, but this find taught me a big lesson. Perseverance pays off, and just because you pull a few bits of junk from a hole check again, because.....wow!!!!

I truly thought that Hawk was a metal detector signal from your machine at first. I thought, “wow, he must have replaced his Fisher F19 detector already.” I figured it out by the second hawk call though, lol.

I’ve heard scanning along rock walls is a good place since people old tend to sit against it and things would fall out of their pockets. Same with the base of trees. That was a fabulous find. I’m jealous.
Been there and hunted this site. Billy and I hunted the area with DC and the crew several years ago. Happy to see DC get this. He deserved this one for all the kindness he showed the Colorado crew.
The person who lost the 1821 half dollar would have been upset. I looked it up and the equivilent value today would have been approximately $13.00. Great video and a great find !
Man, that coin is RIDICULOUS!!! The details on LIBERTY and the lines on the shield... WOW! The oldest coin I've dug is an 1890 Indian head cent and I'm still waiting to dig my first silver coin. I got out metal detecting my property this weekend. Found an old gas tank, a shock absorber, an arrow I lost 30 years ago, and a penny.

I can understand how excited you were!! I've been there, but not in a Colonial site. In the big city, Seattle, I was hunting a curb strip when I got the perfect 13 signal on the Nox. 4" down was an 18K ring with 3 emeralds, 22 diamonds. I immediately went home, too!! Way too amped up for that!! Congratulations, Charlie.......

That is a beautiful coin and congrats Charlie. That had to be a tragic loss for that family. To put things in perspective, I was reading a post in our local early 1880s newspaper. A guy was wanting to hire a local boy, to go down the well on a rope and retrieve a 25 cent piece

Extra Fine, maybe even Almost Uncirculated. Yeah, lots of detail and little wear. That is a true find and I would get it appraised, maybe even slabbed. Don't clean it anymore. This is what metal detectorists live for.

Wow! That looks to be mint state on camera. If not for the scratch on the obverse, that's easily a $2k coin. I would still send it off to PCGS and get the details grade. What a find!

That was an awesome find. This helps me. I’ve been detecting so plantation plots when old houses use to sit. But it’s littered with iron everywhere and also aluminum. It’s very frustrating trying to weed through the junk but this shows patience and perseverance pays off. I know I will not find old coins like that but just sliver or copper makes me happy. I found my first IHP a week ago in a cane field. I was extremely happy. But you never know what you gonna find. That’s what I love about it. Thanks for the vid.
