    The latest update from the field, we returned after nearly a year and recovered our Survival Supply Cache. This was a fun yet very functional Training Exercise that was a total success...aside from a few Mistakes.
    Check the links below for more details on this operation, thanks for the support!

    Might be advisable to stuff the gear / food into a dry bag just in case there is water ingress in the cached box because the seal was to be broken.

      Not a bad idea. In the end I had sealed the container with the Gorilla glue and then stuffed that into a sealed Mylar bag….and I was still concerned a bit.

    @Wastelandman7000 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'd take the container with you. You can always run some cordage around the handles and create a shoulder strap. You can still use it for carrying supplies or foraged edibles, tinder, etc. and it will keep it mostly dry if its raining.
    Plus if you threw a plastic drop cloth and used it for a tarp you could aim the morning dew down into the container and replenish your water supply. (or use a poncho).
    If you use a stove or Dakota hole you could use it to help block the light.
    Or put it over your tinder while you're trying to spark a fire in the rain. (a bit of duct tape over the hinge would help with this)
    All kinds of things you can do with it.

    One of the problems in Canada is the temperature changes would cause condensation and the only way to remedy that situation is burying it deep so it stays a constant temperature.

    • @JK-dp6ye
      @JK-dp6ye ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's something I haven't thought of, but great point! I am going to try something near when I camp and put a wireless thermometer/humidity gauge and see how that goes in my area.

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost
      @TheSurvivalOutpost  ปีที่แล้ว

      About how deep would it need to be? I saw a video from Canadian Prepper and he did a burial but it was not deep and it appeared to be summer

      @@TheSurvivalOutpost it all depends what province you’re in. On the west coast like around Vancouver it’s pretty warm so18” to 24” would probably be fine year round but where Canadian prepper lives it gets significantly colder in the winter so I’d bet you’d have to be around 3’ deep +.

    • @tennesseeterri
      @tennesseeterri ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the depth you need to bury is dependent on your location. Google frost line for your area and there are charts. When you get below the frost line it does stay at a constant temperature.

    My thoughts are to have a huge cache. Like a 100 litres drum. Why? Well, the forest is huge, so there is zero storage concerns.
    Even if you have to keep moving, you can leave it. But at least you will have the choice to stay there, or come back for more supplies later.
    I have two types of caches: the small immediate local to my home. Then a larger cache in a more isolated area, possibility where I may set up a stealth camp.
    I hope this helps

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost
      @TheSurvivalOutpost  ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn't realize you moved from Tennessee to Florida. If SHTF which would you rather be in Tennessee or Florida? Have you ever vacuum packed ammo, batteries for gear, and when you cached your gear, what would you have done differently? I am trying to make a cache and decide where and how to bury it. Thanks for sharing. Your little survival buddy is learning from you. That's a lesson of a lifetime. Stay safe

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost
      @TheSurvivalOutpost  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've done vacuum packs before or I just seal up food grade mylar bags after sucking out as much hair as possible...TN and FL both have their pros and cons but I"d lean towards southern tn as the best location.
      be sure to check out my survival cache playlist, I talk ab it about different caches, locations, etc.

    It was a success. You got in and out undetected. Better yet, cachet is unmolested.
    Only thing I would change is adding a change of clothes. If you must evac with the clothes on your back, may need to change. If not immediately having an extra set in case of ???? WKW.

    I heard that if a Sawyer filter system is below freezing it could mess up the filter like crack it or something. Do you know if that is true about Sawyer filters?

    • @JK-dp6ye
      @JK-dp6ye ปีที่แล้ว

      I just drink water straight from the source. Filters got to be too expensive and maybe I will boil if feel like it, but if tired, I just don't bother.

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost
      @TheSurvivalOutpost  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is plastic so it will def crack but temps have to be low. My filter functions fine down to the low 10s. However I’ve never put one in a cache and left it for a while

      The filter will crack if it is frozen while it is wet from use. you must keep it from being frozen until it dries out totally. Just bury below the frost line in your area in order to keep your cache at a constant temperature.

    Thank you for showing the cache retrieval - very informative.
    As for food to put in the cache, have you considered those lifeboat survival rations, such as DATREX or similar emergency rations? If the factory packaging is not compromised, they have a claimed shelf-life of five years under less than ideal storage conditions. (The DATREX factory packaging is surprisingly fragile, so I carefully reinforce the packaging with several layers of cling wrap and then packing tape.) While those survival rations are not exciting, they are calories and do not require any preparation.

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost

    Always wondered what would be the best container to stash in the ground . Around here the ground freezes in winter , so it would have to be water tight , as well as tough . Still have not come up with a solution , I would be comfortable with .Because of the weather we have , I was thinking along the lines of the container being in a sort of tomb like hollow chamber , slightly elevated with stones at the bottom , to lift the container away from the ground , then a covering of lumber , then soil . Dunno .

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost

    I made a stash of food, water,ammo,and a 22 rifle and a 9mm pistol, a change of clothes and a small tent,put it all in vaccum sealed bags then a contractor trash bag then an 8 inch pvc pipe,buried it vertical with rock tamped around it and had a lockable watertight lid like on a work van for hauling conduit,the top was about 8 inches below the surface and I put some plastic over it and some rock then a thin layer of dirt,it had been buried for 7 years when I last checked it everything was just like I had just put it there

    When I think of creating a cache I always have it in mind that it will serve as a resupply of food, ammo, medical supplies or a kit. I might even include a pistol. If I plan to fully outfit myself and maybe another person then it would be larger but for a cache I might revisit it would push me to create a more elaborate stash. Realistically if any of us had to bug out who would probably start off with vehicles so for me the cash serves as insurance in case I run out of supplies or somebody steals what I have from me.
