I also love how hardtails just surge forwards when you lay the hammer down. They just have an immediate response. It feels so cool, and its quite noticable after riding a full suspension for a while.
Yes, DH-R Evos are the top TRP's. I've had them since spring and would say they have more power than Shimano and like you said more modulation. Every review I've seen put modulation between SRAM and Shimano. Their new one piece rotor is supposed to improve deceleration. I'm on the older one piece. I have yet to have any fade with the TRP's where even with Ice-Tech I could get it pretty easy with the Shimanos. The one downside is, the latest Shimanos greatly reduced flex, the TRP's have a quite a bit. It's still a lighter pull for more power so I don't worry about it. If you find the lever reach a bit much, Freedom Coast and Oak Components make levers that sit about 12mm closer. I have the Oak levers and love them. Modern Bike had the Oak Levers.
Yeah almost all TRP brakes have the nice tool less reach adjust, but the EVO's start farther out and never get as close as most lever blades. I have small hands and ordered all at once just in case it was a problem for me since multiple people mentioned it on MTBR forums. I don't think I needed them closer, but they are bit more comfortable and locked in feeling for one finger. They look good too🙂
I wonder how it would do with a 140mm fork. I’m out West and do occasional drops 3 ft~ and no serious jump lines and 140mm is perfect. I ride an RSD MC.
It's definitely a stiffer feeling frame which makes sense being that it's only double butted 4130 Chromoly. But it still feels a lot more compliant than an aluminum frame.

Yep. Hardtailz are better for most riding. Unfortunately, they beat me up a little on long rides.
Looks wickedly cool. Gotta love big travel fork on a hardtail!
I just put 160 on my Nukeproof Scout. I LOVE IT!! It made the Scout a MACHINE! Goes up hills fantastic. But loves the flats & going down.
Pretty cool that you were able to try the different sizes. Now you can be sure you are on the size that works best for your anatomy and riding style.

Interesting take on the levers. These have a little dial that brings them closer and they work great.

I think that would lower the bottom bracket too much for my liking. It's already got a pretty significant drop.
Cooĺ. Looks like a good hardtail for out west. Im cool leaning on corners, but longer wheel bases make switchbacky trails cumbersome.
Yeah, that's why I changed out the medium (S2) to the small (S1).
Nice! What fork offset are you running? Thanks
44mm
Awesome build! What unit of theo were you at today?
All over and it was a couple of days ago.
How is the frame compliance vs the Hayduke & Japhy, which are quadbutted?
It's definitely a stiffer feeling frame which makes sense being that it's only double butted 4130 Chromoly. But it still feels a lot more compliant than an aluminum frame.
@@ShadLife makes sense. I'd be curious to know how it compares to other slack steel frames, like the Kona Honzo ESD & Knolly Tyaughton.
@@Alex_564 I haven't ever ridden those other ones. So no idea...🤷♂️
@@ShadLife totally understandable. What was the frame weight for the small?
About 6.5 pounds.
You gotta get a chainstay protector on there
I know. That clanking is annoying!
