  • Esker sent this out for review. It's a well-rounded-quad-butted-steel-hardtail. That rips and keeps your planted.

Love the very informative review and the bike. I've never been a huge fan of steel but I know some people love it and this review has kinda changed my perspective on it a bit. That steel frame looks pretty awesome and it sounds like it's got a ride quality to match. That sort of forest green color is perfect for it too. What's the cost of the bike with that particular build?
As an aside, I was interested in the Marin DSX-2 right around the time you put out your review vid for it. Never did find one in stock so I went with a hardtail from online direct instead. How has the DSX-2 been holding up? Thanks a lot. Really enjoy the channel.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment! I’m happy to hear your thoughts on steel have changed a bit. I love steel bikes as I’m used to them on my single speeds, so it’s awesome to see those same characteristics come through in a mountain bike.
This is the J2 build and they have it priced at $2800 on their site.
As for the DSX2, that was a loaner bike so I sent it back. However, I do miss it!

Steel is the best material for Hardtails. Yes, it's better that titanium.

I love my Japhy and set it up as a custom SS. This bike shreds on my steep techie trails. The quad butted steel rides so awesome!

Thank you! I miss this bike for sure. These trails were in northern Cali - Bay Area and Shasta county!

Love your channel! Just getting into gravel riding and wondering if you can share some of your favorite gravel trails around here in the Bay Area. Basically looking for scenic, gravelly trails with good range and good climb. Thanks 🤙🏽

Right on homie! Thanks for the kudos, really means a lot to me. Caught your Tamarancho ride, that’s such a sweet spot. For scenic, I LOVE the headlands. Nothing beats that in terms of gravel rides. Parking at Tennessee valley, heading up Marinchello, smashing along coastline will give you some epic scenery.
Have fun out there! Maybe we’ll bump into each other. Say hi if you recognize my goofy face out there haha.
