      Can these dongles stay plugged in all the time (few days in garage)? Or do you have to disconnect them, because they discharge the battery?

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nnnnnn3647 it depends on if your USB port stays powered when the ignition is off and the car is locked. If it doesn’t then the dongle just turns off until the ignition is on. Hope this helps.

    • @nnnnnn3647

      @@CarPlayLife Yes, I understand that this is how it works. However, are you experienced with a situation where it is connected via USB, which has a constant power supply? Does it have a big influence on the power consumption? How does it work on the Ford Fiesta? (I have a similar car - Puma)

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nnnnnn3647 I can only go off my VW. Its CarPlay USB port turns off when ignition is off. It is mostly down to how the USB is powered after ignition. I think most turn off. Some aftermarket installs may wire them differently to enable power when the car is off. But I am sure most will power off.
      You could just plug in your iPhone into the port. Turn off the car and remove the key. If the iPhone still says it’s charging then the USB is staying powered. If so you can position the phone on the dashboard by the window (like a parking ticket). Get out and lock the car and look through the window to see if the phone is still charging then. If it does then the usb is also remaining powered when you’re out the car and it’s locked.
      Hope this helps.

    I'm using the Android Carplay MMB in Australia. Great little unit. Not perfect, but being able to have extra functions over AA or Carplay is a bonus. Boot up time is about 45 seconds which isn't too bad. But being in a 5G reception area makes watching TH-cam or reading emails a seamless experience, but its only done when the car is parked . Would I recommend it? Yes absolutely.

    Nice job exploring is wireless CarPlay dongle. I was hoping I can find one that has zero delay on audio. Mmb had promise when you used airplay. Idk why they can’t do the same when running CarPlay.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They each work a little differently. The airplay route IS the same as how CarPlay works (over WiFi) but with the MMB video specifically, it doesn’t have a delay because they buffer the stream in their own player. Playing audio outside this player faces the same kind of lag. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    • @rauland

      Wireless CarPlay (and airplay in general) has a 1-2 second delay no matter if it’s a 3rd party device (like these ones being reviewed) or an Apple device. I do a lot of wired and wireless CarPlay with my work and even more AirPlay in house wide home audio distribution… always a delay with wireless. I believe it has something to do with the wireless protocols needed to stream the audio over network connections vs standard Bluetooth.

    I tested an iPhone 5s with iOS 12.5.4 (latest version available for that phone) wirelessly on two CarlinKit 2.0 (CPC200-U2W-PLUS) with red UI, latest FW. It does not work. Quick question, I recently brought the carlinkit 2.0 off Amazon and it seems to look slightly different to yours with the logos being at the top and the light bit at the bottom. Do you know if they have changed it (design wise) slightly or have I been ripped off with a dodgey one. Bearing it mind it seems to be working fine.
    The box it came in was abit smaller than ones I’ve seen online too, dongle itself is smaller than I expected.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sure it is just a newer model or revised model. Both CarLinkit dongles I have a really early versions. They might have chosen to flip the logos and status light for better visibility when stowed in a centre console. The fact that is works is reassuring and makes me thinks it’s less of a knockoff and just more a revision. Same goes for the packaging, smaller will mean cheaper. So more profit for them. Just be careful about updating it. If it works, don’t fix it.

Frequently, but not every time that I can tell, after CarPlay shows up on the screen, it cycles the entertainment system off. It then reconnects, and cycles the entertainment system off again. This goes on indefinitely unless I reboot my iPhone. The only way I've found, so far, to prevent this from happening is to not watch any TH-cams or other videos (ie, on FaceBook). Basically want all other functions on the phone acts as if it’s not paired. Will these dongles let you delete factory apps by apple? My only solution thus far is to play music through FM transmitter. But then none of Apple Music shows up on display or controllable. I’ve paired it with CarPlay off and the system recognizes iPhone music great but still sends all data from the phone. Just in the cars infotainment language. I’m pulling my hair out. Lolol. @CarPlayLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smooth1732 it’s basically a usb cable that you plug in a small magnetic lighting adapter into your iPhone port. This sits pretty flush to your iPhone and doesn’t stick out that much. Then there is a usb cable that plugs into your CarPlay usb port and the other end has a magnet connector that simply snaps to the magnet that’s connected to your iPhone. Once connected, charging (and data if the cable supports it) can flow. It puts less stress on your iPhone port, yet I don’t think the charging power is a strong as a direct connection, but it’s likely not that much different than wireless charging speeds.

      These car for CarPlay systems for use with an iPhone but some will allow android mirroring to the dongle. Like the MMB dongles. But the experience isn’t great.

    I have had a CPLAY2AIR, and I could live with the delay on media playback. But when using for phone calls, it's useless.Talking to people ends up with total interruption of each others sentences, cause of the delay. Is this better in the CarLinkIt ?

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All suffer with this and it also depends on the car system and microphone installed. Some don’t think it’s a problem and that’s either how they talk over the phone, that they don’t do many calls and for long periods, or perhaps it’s the car system that’s helping.
      But overall that audio delay is the same for audio in calling. For some it’s enough to make calling over WiFi a frustration.
      I guess a possible work around for this whilst keeping wireless CarPlay is looking for an android ai box that uses BT for calling/ voice input.
      Some dongles did do that recently and I wonder if it’s their way to work around the WiFi delay. But it also introduces bugs when the audio won’t switch back well enough and you have music playback using the same connection and it sounds awful.
      🤷🏻‍♂️
