For me, this song is just mesmerizing. They some songs speak to us, well this one especially does, given the fact I nearly did lose my life to Drowning. I was a near Drowning victim and this song just captures the essence of the sensation for me perfectly. I love the lyrics to it and the sheer excellence of guitar and drum combo.

Yeah the medicate album wasn't very good. Too pop sounding. Rock music isn't dead, and would be more popular if more people played it instead of going pop.
Their two newest albums are definitely ass compared to everything else they’ve done, but a couple things to still note are these: 1. The lyrics are still (mostly) well written, particularly Straight Jacket(9/10), Rx(10/10), Echoes (8/10), Loner (7/10), Glass Jaw(7/10), and Po Mouth (7/10.) 2. The instrumentals are so god damn generic pop that you think you’re listening to P!ATD off of wish.com. 3. I’m pretty sure they switched to pop because Tyler DESTROYED his voice. Just listen to the difference between how he sang in 05 live on here for a concert compared to his more proper singing now. He used to be extremely rough and raw. Time and consistency does that to your voice.
its a cheap affect you can get at a guitar store for $60. its good in this song for the 1 word, but to use it a lot would be really lame and everyone would hate you.

This could be personal experience speaking but I’ve always interpreted this song in a certain way. I feel like this song is about trying to adapt to living in society with trust issues after being led into your own downfall. The people you once looked up to for guidance encourage you to swim farther but then turn their backs as you “drown” in your own problems. Afterwards you finally come to terms with the fact that you aren’t like everyone else but you can’t help but miss the normal days before you fell to depression. Finally, you learn just how many people are like you, hence “a thousand leagues who live and breathe along the ocean floor” and you finally feel like you can live normally again. Such a twisted song with a powerful message! Definitely one of their best songs.

A young woman is eventually chosen to take part in the ceremony as everyone cheers her on, but there’s something a little more sinister afoot. But I believe you're right with the cult thing.

Looked it up and found that AIC was Connolly's favorite band, which explained the AIC channeling. Coupled with the difficult personal situation I was in at the time, plus being a huge AIC fan, this song became my favorite.

eh, if this single is any indication i'll be happy. They've had too many cop out songs in their career imo. I love the band but I can't keep up the support if they keep churning out stuff like Happy, Bad Girlfriend, and Hate my Life. It's easy to fall into the same pit that nickelback did with going for the crowd pleasing party songs instead of writing something meaningful. Music should always be about the emotion tied to it, not the money promised to the ones who sell out. Hopefully this album realizes their potential. :)

eh, if this single is any indication i'll be happy. They've had too many cop out songs in their career imo. I love the band but I can't keep up the support if they keep churning out stuff like Happy, Bad Girlfriend, and Hate my Life. It's easy to fall into the same pit that nickelback did with going for the crowd pleasing party songs instead of writing something meaningful. Music should always be about the emotion tied to it, not the money promised to the ones who sell out. Hopefully this album realizes their potential. :)
