    Hey munchie great video. The top hamster club in the uk is run by the National Hamster Council and there is a Midland, southern and northern hamster clubs which fall under the council. They send you a journal each month and tell you where all of the shows are across the country ❤️. I hate that people cram their hamsters into these tiny homes. I have a 740 square inch and a 640 square in cage for my Syrian and my robo. My boys are spoiled. Stay amazing 🤍

    You have taught me so much Munchie. As of next month I will be getting a far bigger cage for my hamster, Casper. He is actually a rescue off of a school “friend”. She never even held him, which does mean that I can’t hold him. I’m struggling to help tame him, hoping that the bigger cage will help. Ever since I first received him I’ve been gradually making his set up more stimulating. (It has been gradual as I’ve been trying to make sure I don’t stress him out, because he’s a chonky stressed Syrian). He’s getting many more chew toys and hides than he’s ever had, and I’m going to buy a beautiful 28cm wheel, which is over 10 inches. (Don’t fear, I’ve owned hamsters before. I was much younger, but my hammy had so much interaction and he survived 4 whole winters. He actually only passed because in his old age he fell while climbing and broke his leg. My mum stayed up all night to hydrate him and feed him, but he did pass. I’m rambling, sorry XD)
    I’ve even been able to advise my partners friend who relied on the pet store people’s information. 🙄 As I’ve been advising I’ve used your information to make sure her two Winter Whites aren’t getting improper care. If there is any specific information for Winter Whites, then I will let them know when informed.
    The point of this comment was really to thank you. Even with my experience, I’ve learned things I would have never known. One of those things being sand baths. I’m actually still unsure of this, if somebody would care to explain. Do I need this for my Casper?
    I’m so thankful, for all I’ve learned.

    • @sophiarose8405
      @sophiarose8405 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, you should get one for Casper. You can't bathe hamsters in water, so this helps them clean themselves. You can buy children's play sand and bake it in the oven to get rid of any dust or just use sand products that are free of dust. (Dust is very bad for them and it can damage their respiratory system) Hope this helps and it sounds like your hamster is having great life!

    • @derynsauer9973
      @derynsauer9973 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If you can, yes, you should get Casper a sand bath. Since hamsters can’t bathe in water, sand helps them keep themselves clean. I use Reptisand that I got on Amazon for my hamsters.

    I just wanted to say thank you Munchie, you have taught me so much in my researching process. My hamster was in a 200sq inch cage which was supposed to be temporary but then my mum changed her mind- he was only in this cage for 5 months though because your videos helped me to get a new cage! My Syrian is now in an 800sq inch cage and has gone from bar climbing, cage pacing, bar biting and tons of other stress related signs, to being so happy, (even in a fully barred cage he has never climbed) no longer jumpy, the taming process has gone so much smoother and he is overall so much happier! Thank you so much🥺💞

    Hi Munchie! I've always been tentative about watching hamster videos on TH-cam due to all the awful ways people seem to put these sweet little things in danger, or neglect, in some sort of attempt at amusement (for the humans exclusively, obviously). However, your videos are a breath of fresh air. I love the lengths you go to to ensure your fosters and personal hamsters get the best care possible. You're obviously a well informed owner and I couldn't be happier. After a few years of going without a little fuzzy wuzzy face in my life, and thanks to Covid-19, I now have plenty of time to devote to caring for a hamster. Your video on the Prevue 528 has convinced me to get it for my soon to be hamster buddy. I was, to no surprise, frustrated over the lack of ready made cages available in the US that have enough space for them. I'm glad the 528 is now an option. Also, you've got a new sub!

    I love these videos. It's so important to educate owners. I don't have a hamster and I probably never will, they are not allowed in Australia. However passion and genuine concern for small pets is important no matter the species. A pet is family not a toy.

But I came to say it was cute in the beginning of the video to see your dark cat's eyes and tongue inside the cat tree as he or she was grooming. It's a very nice cat tree. And Carlos is a cutie pie. He gave a very accurate review of the cage by slinging poop. Thank you as always for everything you do for the small animal community.

    Last year when I had my hamster midge, I started her out on a cage that was WAY too small. She was in there for a year. She had very destructive behaviors because of the stress. I finally educated myself and got her a 740 square inch cage, and the destruction stopped. She was so much more social with people, and she was happier. She lives for two more years in that cage. It is VERY important to realize that cage size MATTERS. Your hamster could be stressed out by the size of the cage you have provided them with, so if you have a cage under the minimum, please consider upgrading! :)

    I got this cage as a gift for my syrian, of course he is not living in it, his house (inside enclousure) is the size of it... But I wanted to check how quickly he would escape. Around 10 pm he usually is let out to explore, and after I saw your video instead of puting him on the floor I put him in this, so called, cage. After 10 minutes (keep on mind that half of this time was just him getting on the top floor) he opened the doors. I closed it again and secured to see how the lids on the side would last, since they looked do fragile. My syrian is an elder guy, not really strong... But he manage to just push it out. And the advertisement says that it's safe and escape-proof. Not to mention that it says that its for syrians and they barely fit in the tubes. Also, they claim it's for 3 hamsters!

    4:52 i don’t know if you meant it like this, but yes you shouldn’t have a Syrian in there because it’s too small and they can’t even fit through the tubes, but same goes for dwarfs too! They still need to run around and live a happy life! For anyone that may have been confused. 😊

    3 years ago, (before I discovered your channel and got educated on proper hamster care) I actually had the two level version of this cage (for a dwarf hamster) It lasted me about 4 months. I now use the prevue 528 and it is SO MUCH BETTER! not only for my hamster (obviously) but it is much easier to take apart and clean. Plus not worries of breaking it while cleaning. I feel awful that my hamster before never got to experience good husbandry. The reason people would pick the layered over the prevue 528 or any other is because it is a "complete setup" It comes with a tiny wheel, crappy food dish that hamsters easily destroy because it is plastic, and leaking water bottle. I can conferm that the wheel was not used after he reached adult size and I had to get a bigger one however, guess what? IT WOULDN'T FIT! also he would sleep in the tubes and urinate and defecate inside of them resulting in urine dripping out of the tubes and onto my desk on a daily basis. The smell was horrendous. The piece holding the tubes broke resulting in an entirely useless cage because of the cheep material. And taking this apart and cleaning all of the tubes was horrible. I did not enjoy having a hamster BECAUSE OF THIS CAGE!!! Thank you for educating others. I probably would not have another hamster right now if I hadn't discovered your channel.

    I used to have a cage like this for my Syrian hamster who unfortunately got his teeth stuck in the bars from bar biting so often I hadn’t done any research till this hamster died just before Christmas then I started watching you and got a robo hamster and sadly put him in the same cage but the first wheel was 4” so I got him a bigger wheel although it didn’t spin my parents wanted me to get rid of the wheel (I didn’t) and then my cage broke at the roof and one of the bars had bended and my robo could slip out so I was allowed to get a new cage and at this time I was using wood shavings bedding so I shortly after realised my mistake and I finally started proper hamster care and my little robo is so much happier now so thank you!

    I feel so bad.... My first ever hamster I got when I was seven, and she was a Syrian. I'm annoyed at myself and my parents for letting me get her but that's life. She was beautiful, but i obviously didn't know anything about hamsters or SQinches. She was kept in one of these cages, or at least it was similar. It had bright colours so young me obviously wanted it. She lived to 2 and a half, which is surprising as she didn't have such an amazing life. But i loved her and was distraught when she died. I didn't get another for 6 years. Now I'm 13 and I wanted to do my research before I got a new one. I found your channel, and long story short I now have a gorgeous Winter white named Kite. He lives in a bin cage of around 800 square inches now and he loves it. (I live in the UK by the way.) I'm so happy I was able to provide him with a happy life, so Thank you so much. You have helped my hamster live a life he deserves Thank you frome and kite. If you made it this far thank you have an amazing day/night. Bye😁

    I have 4 mice. 3 girls and 1 boy. Should I get two seperate cages/aquariums or should I keep them in 1. If so how big should I get it? I need some recommendations. I took the little Fur babies to a vet because they're orphaned baby mice. Their mom got attacked by a snake and I got the babies before the snake got them. They were little pink babies. They have no injuries thankfully. Now they're 11 days old. I have them in a bin now because they weren't so active. Now that they are older they're becoming active so I'm trying to find what works best for them. Any recommendations would be grateful. I been doing a lot of research, but there's a lot of different opinions or misleading info about cages. Thanks in advance if you answer. 🐭🐭🐭🐭💜💜💜💜

    I actually had a different version of this cage. It had a big ball attached the top and another wheel at the second level. It was so expensive but the quality was so cheap. The wheels were touching the ground and the ball kept slipping from its place. You can not put any aspen or paper bedding to the levels because they will drop on the floor. You can not put anything to the bottom level at all. And sometimes your hamster can pee on the bars and it just drips all over the place. It was a total mess! Thankfully, I've learned my lesson and got rid of the cage. Now I have an aquarium that is 120x55 cm.

I'm not an expert, just sharing what I believe to be true. I can recommend looking at some of Victoria Raechel's channel, and looking at the videos on baby hamsters that she made a while back, as I believe she had a Syrian hamster who was pregnant a time ago. Good luck! 💕

    I hate the fact that so many places sell cages that are way too small for hamsters! I've recently upgraded my hamster's cage and he is so much happier now that he has more space to run around in. My cat is also happy that she can stretch out more on top of his cage because my hamster and my cat are best of friends. My cat was also best friends with my previous hamster.
