WATCH THIS Before You Sublimate Another Coffee Mug (and get a free template!)

  • Hey, and welcome! In this episode, I’ll be quickly unboxing some 15 ounce coffee mugs, then figuring out the best color that matches the mugs, testing that color, and finally, creating a design and sublimating it onto a 15 ounce coffee mug. I’m also including a png file of the template I use, as well as a png file of the cut and center line I use. These files are for an 8-1/2” by 11” project. Use the template to align your image correctly on the paper, then hide that template layer and turn on the cut line layer before printing. This will print the cut lines but not the template. Double check to make sure the template and cut line aligns correctly on your editing program! Because my 15 ounce mugs curve inward at the bottom, I have to be careful about how close the image is to the bottom of the template.
    I’m on a MacBook Pro and I’m using Photoshop Elements 2021. Photoshop Elements is a one time purchase, and in my opinion, easier to use than the full Photoshop. (Plus, Photoshop is a monthly subscription. Yuk!)
    I’m not sure about your Photoshop skill level, so I’m just jumping in and creating this image as I normally would. If it’s beneath your skills, please accept my apology. If it seems overwhelming, let me know and I can create future videos and get a little more basic.
    I was never taught Photoshop, I just learned it on my own (before TH-cam!). There are so many great TH-cam videos now about using Photoshop, so if you don’t know anything about it, I assure you, you can learn it! Just be patient and take baby steps!

    hey....thanks for posting this video, just starting out in sublimation, have done some mugs and finally synced my particular press with temp, time & pressure for the 10oz mugs i use. but my biggest issue was positioning and getting image straight, your video helped a lot, initially i thought that the centre line you printed out would transfer to mug, but noticed that on positioning ,the centre line sat proud of the mug. great idea. thanks again Tony UK

    Hi. Sometimes the colours don't come out the same on the print as they are in the computer file. Did you have to change your colour settings first?

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t normally, but there have been a few times where I needed an exact color and it’s subbed slightly off. In that case, if I absolutely need that color to be correct, I’ll press a test mug (one that came with a broken handle!) with several variations of the color I’m looking for, adding the hex code to the sub so I can see what each color is. Or if I’ve made a tumbler in the past with that color, I’ll just go back and look to see what that exact color is! Thanks for watching

    I love your videos. Keep going. Anyways, I’m having a problem with my mugs having a little shadow right above the images. I thought maybe my heat was too high but I kept turning my heat down and the shadow keeps showing up. So, now I’m thinking I’m not letting the mug cool before I take the transfer off. Can you help my figure this out? I can send you a pic if you like. Thank you

    • @industrialfringe953

    Hi I loved your video but quick question I’m new to Submliation I was thinking of getting of circuit mug press or another heat press what heat press do you suggest for beginners 😄

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ashley, there are some great videos out there on using Cricut presses. I almost bought one, but decided to stick with the Heat Press Nation Signature Series mug press. If I weren’t doing tumblers, I would have probably purchased a Cricut mug press, as I’m sure they are awesome for 11 ounce and 15 ounce mugs. And there are people that do tumblers in them. I just figured I’d stick with something that’s made to do what I want it to do. So, if tumblers in a press aren’t something you’re looking at doing, the Cricut would be great. (You could also probably resale a Cricut press easier then most presses.) If you want to sub tumblers on a Cricut, I’d just do more research on TH-cam first. I like the idea of being able to expand my mug press by buying attachments, so that was a big reason I got the HPN press. Whatever you do, don’t buy a cheap Amazon press for $100. Sometimes people luck out with them, but most people, me included, end up throwing them away because they break. Good luck!

      @@industrialfringe953 great information. I am also new and had the same question. I purchased a sublimation oven but was thinking about the Crichton mug press for mugs.

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not familiar with Crichton, but think the Cricut would be great for mugs. As I said before, I’d be hesitant on getting something that’s not made for tumblers if tumblers are in your future. From the videos I’ve seen, people are doing a good job of pressing tumblers in a Cricut, but it would make me nervous. My two big pieces of advice are, don’t go with a cheap Amazon press, and go with something that can also press different cylindrical objects for growth. Heat Press Nation and Pro World are both great places to look.

      @@industrialfringe953 i guess i am asking what size did you set the template to before you hid it at printing? My mug measures 9.75 x 4.75 from the exact top to bottom, bottom has a curved unprintable area of about 1/2" but i still included it in that measurement. How much higher do you recommend i set the template to so the registration mark wont hit the top of the mug? maybe 5.75"? or is that too much? if it matters im using silhouette studio and it imports your templates and the registration marks HUGE.

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As long as I let them cool for 3 or so minutes, I’m good. I have found blurring can occur if I try and take the paper off early. When you say “I put my mugs in room temperature,” I hope you don’t mean water. I say that because you have a good chance of fracturing the porcelain or ceramic and not even knowing it. The mug really should come to room temperature on its own. Thanks so much for watching!
