I worked my first job for months to save up and buy my Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure and Jet Grind Radio. My little brother and I spent many hours playing it together and just loving everything about the console. What an amazing machine.
I have a similar experience. I had just started getting some of my own money and the Dreamcast was such ’dream’ from the first minute i saw the thing. I was at the video game store with my brother when we first saw it and we had to pool our money together that same day so we could get it right then, and together with my brother i bought tons of games and nearly all peripherals because we had the keyboard, fishing rod, arcade stick and light gun. Dreamcast has been our favorite console since because it was such a unique experience and even an exclusive experience because we were the only ones cool enough to get one. Only one friend of a friend also had one but we bought that system from him so we both got our own systems😂❤
Happy 25th Anniversary to the Sega Dreamcast's North American Launch. I got a Sega Dreamcast in 2012 as an early birthday present with Sonic Adventure 1&2, Sonic Shuffle, Sega Smashpack Volume 1, and Namco Museum. It was special to me as my grandfather passed away just 3 days later. I have since collected other games for the Dreamcast like Crazy Taxi, Daytona USA, Sega Rally 2 Championship among other titles.
I was stationed in Alabama and drove 30 miles to pick a Dreamcast up on Launch Day. To this day that's probably my favorite system. NFL 2K, NBA 2K, Sonic Adventure 1&2, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter III Third Strike, House of the Dead, Crazy Taxi 1& 2, Shenmue, Virtua Tennis, and a bunch of other games...I had so much fun with that console.
If Sega had added the capability for the Dreamcast to play DVDs and to disable it from playing burnt games, then gaming history might have looked a bit different for the short term atleast. Adam has mentioned this before that Sony presented the PS2 as an all in one entertainment system for the living room for the whole family. Microsoft had concerns that this was going to replace the PC, so they generated their own gaming division. Sega was losing a lot of money, and the infamous squabbles and craziness of both Sega of America and Japan might haven't salvaged the Dreamcast. Regardless, thebDreamcast left one hell of a legacy, and Sega bowed out of the gaming market with a behemoth still being revered and praised to this day by major publications, fans, and pop culture fanatics. It's a real iconic piece of hardware with a library of games that kicks ass.
Best two year run that any console ever had. Awesome price, probably best launch lineup ever for any American release, massive jump over previous generation, ended up being as good as later consoles of next gen, best online experience of its generation, could go on. Just absolutely nothing wrong about buying that DC on 9.9.99 and enjoying it for the next 2-3 years and later as a retro console. At that point there was nothing they could do vs Sony's lies that PS2 in game experience would be exactly like a live action movie. If I was going to criticize something, kind of sucked there were only a small handful of great RPG experiences. In the other genres it had so much great stuff right away.
Wow I never knew GTA III was developed for Dreamcast for four months until switching to PS2. As a huge GTA 3 fan that’s fascinating thanks for that Adam. Happy anniversary Dreamcast, will always hold a special place for me as it is the first console my family has ever owned.
Resident Evil 3, while released on the PS1, Code Veronica originally released on the Dreamcast in 1999/2000, until it was ported to the gamecube in 2002 as the director's cut version.
Will always be my fav console of all time. And without the Dreamcast i would have never found your channel.... And subsequently we would have never met.. Thx Sega 😂😊
9/9/99. Even for me as a european gamer, this always meant something :D We got the system a bit later in october of 99, but even I knew back then what this date meant for Sega and the Dreamcast. Great marketing all around if you even hear about this on the other side of the world, without having internet access. And of course to this day one of the coolest consoles ever :)
Got mine on 22/11/1999 with my brother and we had just both got jobs and we spent most of our money on the Dreamcast. On pay day legit we would spend $300 to $600 on Dreamcast games and peripherals🌀
Ahhh those halcyon days...the transition from Summer to Fall, the end of the 1990's, and the release of the Sega Dreamcast. Those were great times indeed, but it seems almost impossible that 25 years have passed already. Thank you for sharing your love of the Dreamcast and old-school Sega in general, Adam.
Dreamcast was definitely an end to an era. Virtua fighter 3 was & still is incredible! House of the dead 2 & Virtua Tennis gave me countless hours of fun. I have my issues with the Dreamcast but it was definitely memorable
Happy 25 Years, old friend. 🍥💙🧡🍻 And thank you, so, so much, Adam, for helping me getting into this amazing console the way I have did, for the past 11 years now. 🎉🎉🎉🍻🍻🍻
Maybe before I'm dead, someone will come with the bright idea of a new Sega console. It's really needed given today's gaming space. Coming every september, the dream it's still there. Old man stupid hope I guess. About the Blockbuster VMU: open it. Things are meant to be enjoyed not permanently encased. As long as you don't throw it on the ground and stomp on it, it will be very well preserved. It's not like you'll fill it with grease, dirt and scuffs.
Wow 25 years already! I remember skipping college classes to go to the mall and pick mine up at EB...had early disc issues and had to return 2 of my games. Lol cool that the Dreamcast is still alive!
Had mine since 2005 and have a respectable collection of amazing games and a couple of stinkers too. Seventh Cross Evolution is the strangest game I own and while its a little undercooked its my favorite dreamcast game for being the most unique experience ive never found since
I bought a Dreamcast in 2017 at the age of 22 after having never previously owned one and it's thanks to you, Adam. Thanks for doing these every year, I never get tired of the DC love.
I remember getting my very first Dreamcast from Circus Circus in Reno, NV. Will never forget going there for weeks after it released and scavenged quarters from under arcade machines to save up for it. Played the demo disc it included for a week until my mom finally bought me Sonic Adventure. Will never forget this!!!
Oh yeah ! Dreamcast was the first console I bought with my own money (I had a summer job right before the launch). Sonic adventure and soul caliber were my first games !
been a heck of a year for dreamcast stuff, for sure. it's been a little bit since we played ours, but I'm hoping to hook it up tonight for maybe some puzzle fighter ii? turns out the wife is a big fan of that one. funny enough it was also an early christmas present for her she couldn't wait for it either, haha!
I remember like it was yesterday when I got my Dreamcast on 9/9/99, to me it was and still is way better than the ps2, I feel they cut its life short to quick. Thank you for the video Adam.
Great video, thanks. I expected you to highlight the 25 year anniversary. I remember the launch too, although I waited a few months before getting it (it launched in October in Europe). Playing Sonic Adventure and Sega Rally 2 for the first time, oh man. So many fond memories. And as it happens, I have my old Dreamcast hooked up to my OSSC right now.
This was my first console that i purchased with my own money and i still have it. It's modified and in 2024 still play it constantly. I was there day one on 9.9.99

I still miss the fun that I had getting my Dreamcast for Christmas in 2000. What a fun time that new games were still being made that were so unique! I still have my OG VMU on display in my game room.
Yep, hard to believe! Still my all-time favorite console. I grew up with all the Nintendo systems and loved them but Dreamcast took things to a whole other level that I could hardly believe. I remember seeing a screenshot of Megaman in Cannon Spike and it looked so detailed so I thought it was completely fake (which was common at the time to make fake CG screenshots). Then I learned it was actually real and on a console by Sega! So I asked for Christmas to get one and my dad got an entire bundle with 2 games, 2 controllers, a VMU, and the console for only $90 from Sam's Club! It was so fun playing Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi and the Dreamcast Magazine demos! But then when PSO came out, and I got online on day one, playing with people from all over the world, my mind was completely blown! I was so excited I was shaking! I remember my best friend coming home with me and watching me get online and he freaked out and made me go with him to buy it and help him set up his Dreamcast to get online too! Then of course we got addicted to it and played any second that we weren't in school - hardly ever sleeping! Yeah... those were the days!
I've always felt if Sega wasn't so hurting financially they could have at least got a few more quality years out of the Dreamcast & got it close to Gamecube & Xbox sales. Imagine two more years on the level 2000 was in terms of releases. Would have been pretty wild.
I remember I purchased my Sega Dreamcast on 09/09/99. My first two games for the system were Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur. I didn't realize it has been a quarter of a century since it came out.
It's crazy to see how passionate folks are when it comes to making new games and accessories for these older machines, but hey, I'm not complaining. It's always nice to see retro consoles get some recognition, these days. ❤
Happy 25th birthday Sega Dreamcast I remember seeing a Sega Dreamcast kiosk at my local toys r us I would like see a Sega Dreamcast conversion of Star Wars: Battlefront on and two, star wars bounty hunter, The Simpsons: Road Rage, and The Simpsons: Hit & Run
I have only had the privilege of playing a Dreamcast one time as a kid, but that one impression left a big impact. I was visiting family in another state and hung out with a cousin who had a Dreamcast. We played Sonic Adventure 2, which had just been released. I was a massive Sonic fan, but had only had access to ports of old Sonic games on PC (Sonic 3💙). I knew 3D Sonic games existed, but didn't know what they were called or how to play them. Needless to say, that game blew my mind. I didn't know games could be that fast, detailed, or expansive (the chao garden also blew my mind). And the system was so cool. The sleek, white rocketship-shaped controller and matching space-age console were almost as mesmerizing as the game. It's one of the few childhood moments I vividly remember. That's still the only time I've played a dreamcast. I waited wayyyy too long to buy one and now I'm priced out of that library. Before retro prices went bonkers, I kinda focused on collecting for Gamecube and other Nintendo systems at the expense of most other potential areas in my collection, including Sega consoles. Hoping to land a deal on a Dreamcast one of these days and burn a big stack of GD-ROMs! (Thanks for coming to my Tedtalk)
What a console! The Dreamcast was a huge leap in technology from the PSX era and I still remember my jaw dropping when I first saw Sonic and Sega Rally on it. It was finally a real arcade experience at home, and it was FUN! Another unforgettable first sighting was Shenmue. Personally, the games I spent most of my time on were Jet Set Radio, Sega GT, Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, and Crazy Taxi. It died out too soon TBH, and the active development 26 years later is nothing but a testimonial to how great it was. Moreover, many of its games have made it to the following console generations and they're still being bought on Steam, Xbox Games Store, and PSN.
Hard to believe it's been 25 years. Dynamite Cop, Powerstone 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Quake 3 Arena, Spawn In The Demon's Hand. The HOURS my brother and i I dumped into those games. Definitely gotta check out Xenocyber. Long live the Dreamcast! ✊
Such a great console. I remember at launch I was in 5th grade. My older cousin telling me about Dreamcast and how Japan already had it and was playing Sonic Adventure while we had to wait! My brother and I saved every penny and eventually we saved and my Dad took us to Best Buy to get one. With the console we got Sonic Adventure and a 3rd party controller (red astro pad). We didn't get a VMU so for like a few weeks we weren't able to save any of our Sonic Adventure files so we kept starting over every time we wanted to play, haha.
Yeah....No DVD Playback, and also, no backwards compatibility with the Sega Saturn games....Yeah, Sega really wanted to get back into the console space, and they just couldn't compete against Sony....Not even Nintendo stood a chance against the behemoth that is the PS1 and the PS2.
@@brassa03 Yeah....If only they know about the media and popularity of DVD, they could have least released an accessory to hook up into the Dreamcast, and it would have saved the console A LOT.
I knew someone would have done a Anniversary Dreamast video. Didnt know you are still around. I was watching the channel 8 years ago. Then got married, kids bluh bluh bluh
@@AdamKoralik I thought that video would about Dreamcast's launch, reception etc You didnt provide gameplay clips for games you talked about. Kinda letdown, but i'll Sub in case you upload something interesting in the future.
@@AdamKoralik Well, you have enough Dreamcast videos on your channel, can't complain. What's next for the channel? I wish they will anounce Switch 2, Im done with all the shooters, blood, gore silly adventures. I want pure Nintendo greatness
My first experience with the Dreamcast was playing Crazy Taxi at my cousin's house, which subsequently I bought my own shortly after with House of the Dead 2. Damn, what a fun console it was and still is! 🎉
I'd love it if Vice City were ported to Dreamcast but GTA III is good enough. I'd also love it if Sonic Heroes and Shadow The Hedgehog could have DC ports just so they felt more at home.
My brother agreed to play some SoulCalibur on the Dreamcast with me later today to celebrate. Probably my favorite game on there. On another note, GTA 3's Dreamcast port has gotten so damn far and I can't wait to see it complete. The fact that they even got it to around 400MBs without cutting anything out is also insane btw, that was one of the things I was worried about since my Dreamcast is stock with no ODE
I am just coincidentally hooking up my "new" second-hand Sega Sports DC to my gaming setup this afternoon so I can start capturing my gameplay. The last time I owned a Dreamcast was back in 99, and I modded my launch day Dreamcast so it could play Japanese DC titles when I went over to live in Japan for 3 years. I was also there at Zepp Tokyo where Sega formally announced the death of the Dreamcast and their move into third party development. Those were sad but also great times.😍😭
We do other things outside of gaming that matters the most than others which is put on a backburner. And before you know it, not only the end of the year comes around, but also, we're halfway through the 2020s (Now nearly 25 years/quarter way through the 21st century).
Happy 25/26th anniversary SEGA Dreamcast and happy 26th anniversary Shenmue/happy 26th anniversary open world game genre thanks Yu Suzuki and SEGA for open world. God bless.
I worked my first job for months to save up and buy my Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure and Jet Grind Radio. My little brother and I spent many hours playing it together and just loving everything about the console. What an amazing machine.

Dana Carvey old man voice: "Back in my day we only had ONE analogue stick and we LIKED IT!"
Back in my day we had a joystick with only 1 button and we were happy with that. 😂
And that one analog stick was one of the critics' choice characters that framed O.J
25 Years of Greatness!

I'm not saying the PS2 is a bad console, but I wish more people would have given the Dreamcast a chance.
They are now it's one of the more popular old school consoles

I was 10 when it came out. Still play mine regularly. I am still unlocking stuff in mars matrix all these years later.
Happy Birthday, Dreamcast
Sega should have released a special game or dual stick controller just for the die hard fans for the 25th anniversary of the Dreamcast🤔👍🏻
Beautiful, just keep it sealed! Happy 25th Dreamcast Anniversary!! 🎉

Yeah the PlayStation trounced everyone!
@@brassa03 Yeah....If only they know about the media and popularity of DVD, they could have least released an accessory to hook up into the Dreamcast, and it would have saved the console A LOT.
Great way to start my day!
Hard to believe this console fist released nearly 26 years ago considering how powerful it is!
Always look forward to the birthday videos!
Hope you do a video on VM2 at some point
One thing that would be great is if they sold SD cards with new games for the modded Dreamcast with the GDEMU.
As you said the last console made for you the one that's watching this video Happy Birthday to the final console that was for gamers
I remember buying the seaman game with the microphone attachment for the controller. You raised and interacted with a fish that had a human face.
I also remember carrying around my memory card with the little creature from the sonic game on it that you raised. Then you could see it in the game b
I knew someone would have done a Anniversary Dreamast video.
Didnt know you are still around. I was watching the channel 8 years ago. Then got married, kids bluh bluh bluh
Well, welcome back!
@@AdamKoralik I thought that video would about Dreamcast's launch, reception etc You didnt provide gameplay clips for games you talked about. Kinda letdown, but i'll Sub in case you upload something interesting in the future.
@@akaunderdog4223 I didn't claim it was a historical retrospective on the console sir.
@@AdamKoralik Well, you have enough Dreamcast videos on your channel, can't complain. What's next for the channel? I wish they will anounce Switch 2, Im done with all the shooters, blood, gore silly adventures. I want pure Nintendo greatness
A lot, I make videos weekly.
Damn, it's really been 25 years? Time flies.
I was 25 at the release of the Dreamcast^^ Best system from sega ever.
You’re so right about GTA III. When that came out I was on my PS2 for hours playing it & it’s still my favourite GTA game today.
ADAAAAAAAAAAAAM! Good stuff, man
no you're 25 years old :p
happy 25th birthday Dreamcast
25 years wow. Like how did that happen!?
We do other things outside of gaming that matters the most than others which is put on a backburner. And before you know it, not only the end of the year comes around, but also, we're halfway through the 2020s (Now nearly 25 years/quarter way through the 21st century).
@@SuperFlashDriver 💯
@@fathersunglasses6085 Yeah. Hence why when we're doing other things, time flies (including sleep, don't forget that part).
The first console I purchased with my own money. Happy birthday Dreamcast!
Yes 🌀🌀🌀
Happy 25th Birthday Dreamcast, the best Sega console ever
Im always the first on these Dreamcast videos since 2016. You're my comfort channel :)
My Hello Kitty Dreamcast is currently hooked up to era-appropriate VGA monitor! Yet I still find myself playing VMU games more often...
Love the Dreamcast. Also I'm just now getting into the Saturn. I think I'm going to find a cheap Japanese console and get a saroo.
Still have mine. Still play it. Awesome console.
Keep the VMU sealed! He did great on the packaging. It looks awesome.
I always love the Dreamcast videos💯💯💯💯
The Doom64 port to Dreamcast is amazing. It has dynamic lighting and bump mapping.
Fantastic video Adam. The Dreamcast is such an awesome console.
Happy North American birthday Dreamcast.
FIGURE IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Dreamcast!
One more year, and my Dreamcast can finally buy its own damn healthcare.
At this point, the Dreamcast's birthday is your birthday. Happy Birthday, Adam! HUAHUAHUAHUA
I have Dreamcast games emulated on my Xbox Series X 😎
Feliz Cumpleaños Dreamcast!!! Silver anniversary! I hope this is the year they finally translate Hundred Swords 😞
25 years later and we're still figuring it out.
I honestly don't know anyone on TH-cam that covers the Dreamcast with this level of zeal.
I try.
Happy birthday Dreamcast 🎉
Happy 25th (North American) Birthday to the SEGA Dreamcast!
Great console that deserved a better fate than what it ended up getting.
Happy 25/26th anniversary SEGA Dreamcast and happy 26th anniversary Shenmue/happy 26th anniversary open world game genre thanks Yu Suzuki and SEGA for open world.
God bless.
Long live the Dreamcast!
Good job - loved DC so much, wish I’d done an anniversary video also! But you did it so I don’t have to! 😂 🤘🏻
