I also loved to buy the Official Dreamcast Magazine. Those Demo discs were some of the best we ever got for any console! Did you have a subscription to it?
Had trouble finding it the only place near me that had it was EB Games 90 minutes away. The magazine was still bi-monthly when I got my dreamcast so I’d make a trip to get it. A couple months later it went monthly and they cancelled the demo disks.
Bought it on launch day at Toys R Us, and had a subscription to the magazine. Will never forget when they pulled the plug on Dreamcast, they also pulled the plug on the magazine immediately. No refunds, no explanation. Oh well.
great content Pete! Dreamcast was so so underrated. The VMU screen with chao garden blew my mind as a 10 year old. ah simpler times, I know it will never happen, but would love it if Sega released another console.
In Japan, the Sega Dream Cast released November 27th, 1998. But today is a huge anniversary. 1999/9th month 9th day. I put a lot of gaming anniversarys on my phone.
Dreamcast was and is still a lot of fun. I liked that many of the games have an arcade like pick up and play style to them. I just like the overall vibe of Dreamcast.
Glad to see more D2 appreciation! Got it for $40 used on Amazon back in 2012 and it quickly became one of my favorite games due to how unique it is. Sad it hasn’t and probably won’t ever get ported since it’s very expensive now.
I also got it at Christmas ‘99 it came with Sonic Adventure if I recall? Unfortunately my parents didn’t know that the memory cards were sold separately, so I had to beat in one sitting 😂
Awesome video! I skipped school with a friend to pick up my Dreamcast on launch day. I remember getting MK Gold, and it had that glitch with the line across the screen. They eventually re-released a new version that fixed this. I loved Hydro Thunder and Soul Caliber. I remember it being better than the arcade version. I loved the Dreamcast!
I didn't pick up this console until about 12 years after it released. Absolutely fell in love with it. Still mad we never got the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade port for it though lol.
I remember picking up the dreamcast when the PS2 was announced. So maybe like in 2001 from ToyRus. I too bought a second controller. It was a cheaper non official brand called the astropad. When I looked at it and put my hands on it, I thought, oh no.... So I took it back to ToysRus to return it and got myself another offical Dreamcast controller in blue. I had so much fun playing the dreamcast with my friends back in the day. I have games like Soul calibur, Powerstone 2, Sonic Adventure, Phantasy Star Online (but I liked the gamecube version better), Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis and many more. Of course life happened and I was not able to play all my games. So I am slowly going through my backlog of games across all my systems. Maybe 5-10 years ago I played Shenmue which was very unique. Just last year I played Elemental Gimmick Gear. So yeah, still very fun.
I still remember picking mine up day one on 9/9/99 at my local Toys 'R Us. I bought it specifically for Sonic Adventure, but was elated when Resident Evil Code: Veronica came out as I was a massive RE fan by that time. I'm slowly building my library back up now and trying more survival horror games like Blue Stinger and Carrier. I'd eventually like to find a complete Seaman just for the novelty of it. Also considering some space combat games like Armada or StarLancer.
when i first saw sonic adventure it blew my mind, the part specifically when the whale is behind you. The Dreamcast was very innovative like Nintendo, I feel they dont get as much credit as Nintendo when it comes to innovating. The vmu, online, great games like sonic adventure, resident evil code veronica, etc
This day will live on for me in history of gaming. (; ao hsppy project justice and power stone are being portes to "modern" (2017 switch) hardware. NownI juat want illbleed and Blue stinger ports you know? 🧚🏼♀️
Man, I remember cutting out an AD back in 99, taping it to my wall waiting for the September 9th for it to be released. I was a huge SEGA kid back then. 😂
I bought a Dreamcast a month after launch with Sonic Adventure. I was 21 years old at the time and had a new job then so I had some income I could burn. I did play online with the system and the first game was Chu Chu Rocket. I still talk with a few of my friends I made on that game to this day! I eventually played PSO and I sank so much hours in that one! I regret not getting games like Project Justice, Cannon Spike and other rare games for it when I had the chance before going up in price.
My favorite gaming memories for Dreamcast were Soul Calibur, Residenr Evil: Code Veronica, Powerstone, Berserker, Omikron: The Nomad Soul, Shen Mue and Crazy Taxi. I too only owned maybe a dozen or so games and was an avid renter for the console. Being a huge Kenji Eno fan since discovering D and Enemy Zero and the fact Ueda worked for him on these games, i was glad to finally go back and play D2 like 10 years ago! Its great! Did you play David Cage's 1st game Omikron: The Nomad Soul? I really got absorbed in it! I got it without knowing about it, when they guy in front of me chose Illbleed instead of it and though Illbleed is quirky fun and worth more now, i'm still glad i got Omikron cuz i like it better!
I had my first experience with the Dreamcast in 2014 when I was in High School. My friends dad had two, one from launch day and one he got for $50 before they stopped selling em. I loved playing Sonic Adventure and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2. Also had Sega Bass fishing and Crazy Taxi.
Loved my dreamcast, ended up getting it with Grandia 2. I remember feeling like every game I played was mind blowing for its time. Eventually I bought every capcom and SNK fighting game that released. It really did feel like a golden age of gaming.
I remember lending Shenmue from my friend and losing my life to it. It’s not a game I could go back and play today. But it’s in my top 10 game experiences of all time.
Shenmue for Christmas was magical to me. Did you ever play am2's outrigger, was such a good multiplayer game and had twin stick and mouse and keyboard support
Omg! Angelfire I hadn’t thought about those sites in years. I’m 35 now and my family didn’t get a computer until 2001. But man back then I had a whole angelfire site dedicated to vegeta lol. He was the dude back then for me. I would scour other sites for pics and stuff to copy and bring over to mine. The dc was awesome I grew up a sega kid but I never did get one until I was a teenager and could buy my own. They’d already been discontinued by then. But I remember seeing the displays in places and sonic adventure blew my freaking mind
The Dreamcast for me along with the Nokia N-Gage are special because I’ve got a complete pal collection for both systems & I’m not far of having a complete pal Saturn collection which I’ll be lucky enough to complete at some point early in 2025 as all 3 systems don’t have the largest game libraries the crazy thing I’m a Nintendo guy over Sega now stateside collecting NES SNES & N64 NTSC games which would be my dream complete systems it’s funny how life works out, I may also next year turn my attention to the Wii U again because of the size of the game library, ❤ the fact you’ve got lots of different content on TH-cam this week Pete as your always my favourite content creator 👌
I love the Dreamcast. It’s funny cause I didn’t play it online either. I owned PSO and wanted to play online but I didn’t know how to set it up and my parents wouldn’t help me. Would have been a blast but I ended up getting addicted to playing PS2 online and FFXI. lol so many great memories.
I never owned a Dreamcast I got a PS1 on Xmas 98 I was 5 so I missed that era but Im gonna start collecting for it eventually a whole library to discover !
I wish I'd been able to get it for Christmas as a kid, but never did. Couple years later I got GameCube but I wish I really wanted DC. Playing PSO would've been amazing.
I couldn't imagine playing phantasy star online back then either it had to be mind blowing I just recently started my first MMORPG an it's final fantasy 14 an I'm having a hard time balancing playing it an other new titles lol
LOL. Ya, I made an all round geek site called Tetsuo's hideout. I also loved the anchored nav bar while hiding the scroll bar (yuck) I also added a .midi file for background music, it was Metallica Fade to Black. Oh, and I was team Geocities of course.
@@edge1000 Exactly. Starting with the PS2, game consoles were no longer just about playing games. The target demographics also changed from gamers to more mainstream. One of the main selling points of the PS2 was the DVD movie player. The PS3 did the same with a BD movie player.
I was a Sega fan and I hated the very concept of the Dreamcast, on one hand it came way too early sending off Saturn prematurely - Saturn was expensive and after the Mega CD I said enough. On the other hand, after a series of beautiful black consoles with great controller we got this white design with that ugly 4-button controller, it felt never attractive. I sold my Saturn and only returned to console gaming many years later with the PS2, fall 2001. To this day I don't like it, the games do nothing for me, especially stuff like Jet Set Radio.
I also loved to buy the Official Dreamcast Magazine. Those Demo discs were some of the best we ever got for any console! Did you have a subscription to it?
Do you remember how trash the socom headsets were lol?
I use to go to Babbages to get the magazines.
Oh well.
Those demo discs were legendary. We only had a few actual games but we would play the first stage or two of dozens of games over and over lol
great content Pete! Dreamcast was so so underrated. The VMU screen with chao garden blew my mind as a 10 year old. ah simpler times, I know it will never happen, but would love it if Sega released another console.
Pete's the guy i trust to talk about the Dreamcast 25th. Great video, been watching you a long time. It's thinking.
I was 13 at the time as well. Best moment for me and for my favourite console of all time.
Happy Birthday Dreamcast!
Glad to see more D2 appreciation! Got it for $40 used on Amazon back in 2012 and it quickly became one of my favorite games due to how unique it is. Sad it hasn’t and probably won’t ever get ported since it’s very expensive now.

thank god you made this video pete. i shared the "9.9.99" nostalgia today as well, and had no one who could relate... ill never forget.
I acquired a Dreamcast last year. I bought it in Japan, and it’s my first Sega home console. It indeed had many innovative features for its time.
I didn't pick up this console until about 12 years after it released. Absolutely fell in love with it. Still mad we never got the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade port for it though lol.

I'm playing through skies of arcadia(the gamecube version) and it's such a game of that era. Really great stuff.
My undying love for SoulCalibur was born on the Dreamcast.
One of my all-time favorite consoles. Banger of a generation!
I wish Sega had stayed in the console market.
dreamcast 2 any time now baby
It's thinking about it
they called it the xbox
Dreamcast mini
The dreamcast was the arcade at home finally. It was a fantastic era in gaming. The vmu was cool, i love the Dreamcast still.
Me and my brother played powerstone all the time!!
Awesome
Keep em coming Pete!

That’s an awesome Christmas 🎄
9/9/99
My biggest regret? Not buying a used copy of Border Down LE when it was like $120 on eBay… I was hoping it would come down a bit, lol.
Sonic Adventure is still the best 3D Sonic game! Can’t wait for this Pete! Dreamcast is the GOAT for Sega!
Yes 🌀🌀🌀
Sega Rally 2, Shenmue, Power Stone, Phantasy Star Online, Ikaruga...still fantastic after all these years...
when i first saw sonic adventure it blew my mind, the part specifically when the whale is behind you. Happy Birthday to one of the most underrated consoles ever, the world was not ready for it when it came out.

I got mine xmas 2000 with Sonic Adventure. I will always say that the Dreamcast still feels like the future, was completely mindblowing for me. X
I have always played it online since the beginning. I still play Quake 3 online on Fragging Friday and PSO on Saturdays.
Holy crap.. Hollywood Video + Dreamcast. Haven't heard anyone mention specifically that. Such great memories for me too.
My favorite gaming memories for Dreamcast were Soul Calibur, Residenr Evil: Code Veronica, Powerstone, Berserker, Omikron: The Nomad Soul, Shen Mue and Crazy Taxi. Same for me. Christmas '99: Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure. Wonderful times.
Loved my dreamcast, ended up getting it with Grandia 2. I remember feeling like every game I played was mind blowing for its time. Eventually I bought every capcom and SNK fighting game that released. It really did feel like a golden age of gaming.
Dreamcast has the best launch lineup of all time.
I remember lending Shenmue from my friend and losing my life to it. It’s not a game I could go back and play today. But it’s in my top 10 game experiences of all time.
The Dreamcast can now rent a car.
Ive never played on an actual dreamcast but I def want to start collecting for it eventually. I love the classic sega aesthetic
Shenmue for Christmas was magical to me. Did you ever play am2's outrigger, was such a good multiplayer game and had twin stick and mouse and keyboard support
Power Stone 1 and 2 are my favourite games of all time. Still play both on maximum level difficulty.
I got mine for Christmas 2000 with THPS2 and NFL2K and what fun did I have on that system. My favorite game is probably Metropolis Street Racer.
Big ups Pete
Omg! Angelfire I hadn’t thought about those sites in years. I’m 35 now and my family didn’t get a computer until 2001. But man back then I had a whole angelfire site dedicated to vegeta lol. Got it in june 2000 for $80 with 12 games from one of my dads coworkers. I was blown away after being kinda disappointed with the saturn.
Wow PSO, crazy taxi, house of the dead, shenmue, virtua tennis, chu chu rocket what memories
Just hooked up a spare dreamcast to a 32” Sony Trinitron and dual wielded some House of the Dead 2!

Pete ur legend man
Love ur stories
Pete, when did you first hook your Dreamcast up to a true 480p display? During lifetime of Dreamcast, or many years later?
God, I wish I could buy a Sega Dreamcast at that time..
I wish I'd been able to get it for Christmas as a kid, but never did. Couple years later I got GameCube but I wish I really wanted DC. Playing PSO would've been amazing.
id love to hear you do a ranking/ must try dreamcast games are.
I couldn't imagine playing phantasy star online back then either it had to be mind blowing I just recently started my first MMORPG an it's final fantasy 14 an I'm having a hard time balancing playing it an other new titles lol
I also have great memories of the christmas I got a dreamcast.

Power Stone is gonna be in the Capcom Fighting game collect that's coming up.
Sonic Adventure was a fun game to play
I rented og Xbox games at blockbusters a lot renting games is something that was a fun experience like with movies
The demo discs are why i mostly played dreamcast 😂 i was like 6 and only played sonic or watch my brother play a game
Cmon man,
That was kinda dull special 25 th anniversary. I expected you to upload something unique today.
You know who doesnt have memories of the Dreamcast here on TH-cam? Dreamcastguy 😂
Absolutely cursed loaner controller.
what was that controller wow lol 😆
I don't know, but I bought the astropad and returned it right away for the official controller.
The Dreamcast was the last good video game console. But if you want to play it, the best experience is emulating it on PC.
Last good console? So the ps2 and ps3 sucked?
@@edge1000 Exactly. Starting with the PS2, game consoles were no longer just about playing games. The target demographics also changed from gamers to more mainstream. One of the main selling points of the PS2 was the DVD movie player. The PS3 did the same with a BD movie player.
Why ea refuse to support Dreamcast

Posted my vid on the Dreamcast yesterday, hope you check it out! Good work
My friend had a dreamcast and bleem!
First
People still do this?
