“Spain was originally composed as an instrumental jazz fusion by Chick Corea in 1971. A version with lyrics by Al Jarreau, "Spain (I Can Recall)", appeared in 1980. Gary covered Al Jarreau’s version as a tribute to him. Al Jarreau passed in 2017. I enjoyed a lot your reactions, guys. Thank you! 👍🏻😊
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼Gary V is a HUGE Al Jarreau fan. I was a huge AJ fan even before Gary became popular in the 80's. He's a little older than me at 56, lol...also its funny how she later said it would be great if MJ and GV did something together. Gary V moves like Michael. Yes, he was the first in the 80's (in the Phils) to incorporate MJ moves into his concerts/performances.

Glad that you finally discovered Gary V. He’s one of those older singers in the Philippines right now regarded as a legend. He actually coached Katrina Velarde and you’ll find a video here in TH-cam them singing this song on stage live.
If you want to see his day to day life, then you should go to his TH-cam channel and watch his videos he produced while in lockdown in his own home, highly recommend “Take me Out of the Dark” and “Sa Yahweh”, which he composed. He produced more than 30 albums so you are right to say he knows what he’s doing.

He is mostly known in our country as “Mr. Pure Energy”. Back in the days, during his younger years, that energy of his now is nothing compared before! He can dance and sing🥰
When I was in the Philippines in the 90's, my co-workers and I went to watch his concerts several times, and "Mr. Pure Energy" would turn the concerts into parties with everybody dancing either on their seats or on the aisles. He connects with his audience when he performs. I miss those concerts.

Remembered my father saying that this is a hard piece and still tried to sing it. His version might not be this mind blowing but his attempt to sing it is indeed outstanding. I miss him.

But as a matter of fact Gary V. is tag as the Michael Jackson of the Philippines, the way he dance, the genre of his songs and his energy. and here's the thing Gary V. is the coach of our favorite KZ Tandingan when she was discover in Philippines X factor, Gary was so amazed of her performance during the audition, the genre, the style of KZ's reminds him of what he does and rest is history. at least a bit of info about Gary and KZ's how the link up and them makes good music.. This is probably the most enjoyable and fun reaction video that I have seen. I have to watch it for a second time (and probably another time in the future). So full of emotion and appreciation of the performance. He is Filipino, and he is one of the most respected performers here since the 80s. He's tagged as "Mr. Pure Energy". He can sing really high and really low. And he can really dance (not break dancing though). He is a songwriter and I guess his backing track might have been recorded by himself in his own studio. His kids are all grownup and can sing, too. One if his sons is a great dancer. His son owns that Wish Bus, the mobile radio station. He's diabetic and has recently survived cancer. I saw another reaction video to his song and it was my first time hearing him perform this song. Beyond amazing! So proud of Mr. Gary V! He is also very humble. He found out through a friend (from church I guess) that a child is so inspired by him that the child wants to enroll and study voice lessons from me. Gary V immediately made a video message encouraging the child to go for it and keep learning. He's so good!

He's a mix of puerto rican and a filipina. And he is known here in the Philippines as Mr. Pure energy for his oitstanding performance. And I think he's on his 50's when he perform there so he is quite impressive!
Would you believe he's 53yrs old? He's called Mr. Pure Energy coz he is one of a few artist here that can sing and dance gracefully at the same time. His songs are usually worship songs. Please check out his "Warrior is a Child" in the Wishbus.

SPAIN was composed by famous jazz musician Chick Corea back in 1973. Then in 1980, jazz singer Al Jarreau put lyrics to the song. Filipino singer, Gary V did his interpretation a few years back, doing his vocal percussion, scatting emulating various musical instruments like drums, sax, lead and bass guitars, the triangle, congo, bongo, etc. One could feel the musicality in him that singers and musically inclined individuals would surely admire. Gary V is an icon back in the Philippines. He is known as MR PURE ENERGY, a Total Performer if you will. The Philippines has tons of very good singers and Gary V is just but one of our great singers really.
In your podcast with Mr. Gary V...when Esra asked him who are his idols in his early years of his career, one of the artist he mentioned is “AL Jarreau” which gives a version of this song with lyrics. The original was just a jazz instrumental. It explaina why Gary V knows this song by Al Jarreau by heart.

I grew up following Gary V for his singing and dancing! By the way, he is actually half Filipino, his mother is a Puerto Rican of Italian descent (sang Operas in the 60’s in Manila) and father is from Bicol, Bicolano. His parents met in NYC and settled in Manila.
