    Watching this again. So glad I did. I think you pick up more things each time you watch stuff like this. But I also enjoyed the entertainment value. Laughed out loud watching you try to get the filing cabinet up on the dolly. I’ve done that so many times before. LOL.
    I’m in a different stage of organizing things right now. So this gave me different ideas.
    No Black Friday shopping for me today. Instead… I’m home sick… and binge watching TH-cam. So you’ll see me in your comments a lot today. LOL

    I find shop organization videos so satisfying perhaps because I live vicariously though the makers doing them that have the time, space, tools, and opportunity to organize. That and it gives me hope I can one day organize my way out of the perennial scenario where my wife says I have too much stuff in my shed….a boy can dream!

    Instead of putting screws through the shelves (18:30) you could put wedges between the bottom support and the bottom of the cleat. Slotted behind the brackets, they would be secure but easily removed for adjustment.

    Label makers are the most important tip ever! My epiphany was to label both ends so there was no wrong way to put it away. @8:20, one tip for those temp blocks, if you have made them the height you want the bottom of the shelf, you wouldn't have had to measure and they would have held the weight while attaching the shelf with no risk of falling

    A thought on the french cleat retension device, instead of screwing a board across the space, screw in ovals that can be turned 60 degrees to provide the clamping, then released just as easily (2 per shelf, one turned clockwise, one counterclockwise.) design up a template, and have the CNC route out a bunch, including the screw hole in the middle. The advantage being that you can limit how much needs to be removed when you decide that the shelf of 12 quart Serlites needs to be 2 shelves of 6 quart Serlites. (or vice versa....

    Rather than screwing your loose french cleat to the wall, put a spacer between the it and the fixed cleat above it. That will be tons to stop it jumping out, but also means the wall can be instantly reconfigured
    (Acknowledging that this isn't a wall you'd regularly reconfigure)

    All the weight on those shelves rests on horizontal screws. I would support the shelves with extra 2x4s vertically between the shelves up against the existing vertical members.

    • @WesleyTreat
      @WesleyTreat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're disregarding the friction and clamping force of the mating 2x4s: th-cam.com/video/jPZ15eMFMmU/w-d-xo.html. I'm not parking cars on it. It's much stronger than it will ever need to be.

    • @DonBarthel
      @DonBarthel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WesleyTreat yeah I buy that, for your situation in your location. But put a little more weight, say some wine bottles, and add some shaking (West coast earthquake or if you live next to a truck route) to open the joints up slightly thereby negating the friction, and the saving of a few extra 2x4s isn't a savings anymore.
      I'm just advising people to evaluate their situation and consider beefing up their shelves for very little extra cost.

    They make a 1/4" quick couple for air hose that I use that you have to twist the collar to disconnect so you don't accidentally pop the hose off or have them come apart when you have 2 hoses connected together and you're dragging them across the floor. Just an old man's advice. Take it or leave it.

    In lean manufacturing, labeling things is a huge deal. Yes, P-Touch machines are totally sexy. You can't find things if they're not appropriately labeled. It's an off-shoot of the idea that there's a place for everything, and at the end of a task, everything goes back into its place. You waste no time looking for things that way, and time is the one resource you can't make more of.
