I definitely want to start with an overly aggressive overextending Orc warrior-type of class. I used to do this playstyle in GW2 to disrupt wvw standoffs where people sit back and take pot shots at each other. Run in, drop lots of hammers with aoe stuns and run out. If your team has a chance they run in to help with the players what are stunned and who might not have been expecting such and over aggressive move.

Super impressed by the Ren'Kai Ork race, it definitely pleases my need for giant Warhammer green Orks. The fighter abilities look incredibly solid in preparations for Alpha 2 as well. Couple things I'd personally like to see hammered out over time is adding some more weight to the Ork running/walking, and side-stepping. They walk a little bit like a lighter human I feel like, almost looks like baby steps/tip-toeing at some angles which also makes some of the side-step weapon swings look small - if somehow they could capture that this is a huge jacked'saurus, would be awesome. Great overview, and this was a great stream.
what happens with too much visual clutter can be perfectly seen in GW2 with all graphic options maxxed out and LoD turned off during a mass player event.
i love gw2 ive pvp'd at top of the leaderboard and i still think the spell effects are an ugly mess. unfortunately gw2 is 10x clearer than ashes sooooo yikes.

Narc's success or lack thereof is solely determined by the extreme emotions he can produce from his audience. Otherwise, if you want AoC content regularly, you'd be getting one video a month and he'd be out of a paycheck.
I think that flashy abilities should largely be tied to a mix of how impactful it is and maybe how often it can be cast. I'd rather the common abilities look good but be more subdued and the big thoughtful and impactful plays be showcased and recognizable. It's fun in pvp too when you learn to recognize when a specific class/enemy pops (or wastes) a cd for a big play. Also, skills like Cataclysm @ 3:25 really don't need any flash at all. it looks great with the ground effects on its own. It almost takes away from the earth effects.
I gotta say, what I DON'T like about the fighter animations is the bright yellow light effect whenever he does an ability. That reminds me more of a paladin or cleric type of class, not a fighter. I think that the red-ish particles that are created for example with his third ability and that can be seen at 2:33 look way cooler and are more fitting. Red-ish is more in line with typical fantasy lore of things like blood frenzy / rage, berserker, deep cuts, etc. that are associated with fighters. Also, as can be seen here at 2:27 I feel that the delay between the actual slash (the moment the sword hits the enemy) and the particle effect isn't a good thing. I think that, if this strong of a particle effect has to be there for some reason, it should not be yellow and shouldn't be delayed like that, but in my opinion, it should not be there at all. Just the sparks that are created by the friction of the sword hitting an enemy, maybe with a touch of red-ish particle effects, is enough I think. The way they did it with the lethal blow ability at 4:27 is perfect I think. I really think that, when it comes to particle effects, less is more. It feels more impactful that way since you can see the actual animation of the attack and can therefore more see (and "feel") your enemies getting hit by it.
The spell effects for this game look so bad. When everything is super, nothing is. Their art honestly just doesn't make sense, for example the leap strike effect should be the cataclysm effect, etc. It honestly has a mobile game type of aesthetic, which is tragic because the game looks quite beautiful when nothing is happening. Their artists crafted this beautiful world, which is completely shitted up with mobile game abilities, literally spewing particles out like confetti for even just one simple buff/debuff. When these things start to stack, it's going to look awful.
i am quite interested in the direction they take the visuals of the skill trees tbh 🤔should they try to one up previous MMOs? interesting, immersive animations? or will that be too much?
once the wow andies come in to ruin the game there will effectively only be one build that will be viable....and I like skill options for the base characters but F...MMORPGers are so success driven they'll find a way to ruin variety...hopefully there will be different ways to mitigate the innate imbalance
I'm so glad Steven addressed most of Narc's concerns in this stream. Just seems weird that a big portion of the community attacked Narc over his feedback regarding communication, yet they seem to welcome the new info, bit hypocritical I would say, specially for the small time content creators.
He simply doesn't understand game development and thinks he is entitled to know everything because he was stupid enough to buy a $500 game package just to play an alpha that may last years.
Not a fan of how most of the abilities are 1-handed. Ability called Cataclysm should definitely be a huge windup smash done with both hands. More Dragons Dogma 2 feel for 2-handed weapons would be great.
Really wish there was less glow and magic particles for melee. Sheild glowing for block is totally unnecessary. Would be cooler if the fighter had different glow effects than yellow, I prefer that for holy damage or heals
I still think the effects are too flashy and bright. In a 200 vs. 200 things still wouldn't be anything but a blinding "guess where you are" fest. /EDIT although I'm happy about the cape movement changes, lower movement is good, much more natural now.
Has it been decided if Ashes of Creation is like archeage in which you can change your class in game? I feel like i'm going to want to change my class as I play the game
I think the fighter class is a great choice for anyone who likes to be in the thick of the action, dealing massive damage and controlling the battlefield. The fighter also seems to have a lot of potential for customization and build diversity, depending on the weapon, secondary class, and skill tree choices. I can’t wait to try out the fighter class in Alpha 2 and see how it performs in different scenarios.
Zone assets is one thing, but the level design of those zones is another... But 7 out of 18 when it comes to asset completion, sounds pretty good. Since they probably are working on multiple ones at the same time. And hopefully the level design is also somewhere along 7 zones or more finished
The best thing that could happen for this game is if Steven eats a bit of humble pie and lets someone else showcase abilities. He is (unfortunately) borderline dogshit at the game and makes it look bad. He needs to give this over to someone who can actually show off what the the characters and abilities are capable of.
Haven’t seen any yet. There is a small section of the melee weapon video way back where they showed a fighter with a 2h hitting stuff and a rogue with daggers stabbing stuff real quick. It’s so far back things could have changed since then. Didn’t show any skills or anything.
Yeah, he really needs to let others showcase while he talks. He keyboard turns and clicks a lot, makes it feel choppy - when we can clearly see the potential. On one hand, he showcases an average player which is helpful for those types, but on the other hand it makes it harder for people who can really utilize the freedom of movement, fluidity, and skillsets - to imagine or visualize how fluid the game's movement really is.

I don't think the effects were too much. It looked good. On a grander scale it could be a problem but I'm sure they'll have a slider for particle effects for people with toasters for PCs
honestly thought this live was very dull imo, it didnt have much to it from my point of view, though it was 4 am for me so i wasnt really catching everything
I'm not a backer and I don't usually even watch videos on it. But it appeared to showcase quite a bit of "meat and potatoes" for the fighter. They even snuck in some first looks of the island dwarves. It wasn't a bad showcase at all.
Iam not a fan of the class showcases, iam more like interested in core feature streams like everything related to Nodes. I hope they reduce the effects drastically by default. Imo it's much too flashy
100% THIS. All characters looks like they run with a stick up their ass holding their body in one position. Also They need to take notes from WoW and give every race their own skeleton for idles, walking, running, jumping etc..

Is the revamp live?
looks good :)
I think some of the animations draw inspiration from SWTOR. But they must tone down the effects, it will be overwhelming with a lot of players. Clarity in combat is a must!
I don't think the effects were too much. It looked good. On a grander scale it could be a problem but I'm sure they'll have a slider for particle effects for people with toasters for PCs
Wasn't your last video "AoC is going downhill!!" ...???
They also did something to mage, looks way better
honestly thought this live was very dull imo, it didnt have much to it from my point of view, though it was 4 am for me so i wasnt really catching everything
I'm not a backer and I don't usually even watch videos on it. But it appeared to showcase quite a bit of "meat and potatoes" for the fighter. They even snuck in some first looks of the island dwarves. It wasn't a bad showcase at all.
Nice cover
I prefer the less flashy animations of WoW warriors. Heroic Leap is cool enough without a whole bunch of yellow.
Iam not a fan of the class showcases, iam more like interested in core feature streams like everything related to Nodes.
I hope they reduce the effects drastically by default. Imo it's much too flashy
Looks Kool just not a fan of greatswords. Give me some dual welding stuff! Pumped to see renkai tho!!
They need cooler looking run animation
100% THIS. All characters looks like they run with a stick up their ass holding their body in one position. Also They need to take notes from WoW and give every race their own skeleton for idles, walking, running, jumping etc..
How many times does this make them revamping combat? 3? 4? I think this is something they aren't going to get.
As many as it takes to get it right.
Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. The fact that we're witnessing it evolve transparently is only a good thing.
revamping happens in Alphas
Narc can you do a video of you touching grass? Don't want you expiring early brother.
Erm.... would have loved some unique abilities instead of Wow warrior / rogue combo
