Middle class women of a certain age who have the status to be in celebrity master chef are the only women who have enough status, power and life experience to be ABLE to speak out. The 20 year old intern won`t say anything for fear of loosing the opportunity to work in TV ever again.
Absolutely agree that this treatment of women is a problem in all parts of society.

The production company should have stepped in and it shouldn't have had to have been up to the celebrity women to call it out. They have still been demonised by a lot of misogynists on social media which isn't right. It is hard to believe no one at the production company could see that Greg's behaviour was not OK.

Women are just as bad if not worse. There might be more men in powerful positions so that it becomes a more common issue for women but let's not act like this behaviour is exclusive to men.

But these Middle class women did not speak out!!! They did not tell him to his face that his behaviour was not on . The6blet it slide at the time and only later raised a complaint.

@@thefairhairedboywiththered2951 They did complain in real time to the producers, and it was constantly swept under the rug. Of course they were not going to say it to his face. He was clearly unreasonable and it would not have been profitable to have a discussion with someone who would only have given them more grief. They did their part and complained to the correct authorities who ultimately let them down,

Nish - I really appreciate that point about men's mental health! I hate that abusers using mental health as an excuse so often goes unchallenged.

    • @littleshopofrandom685
      @littleshopofrandom685 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

In fairness many abusive people have mental heath issues. It can be a reason, but it is not necessarily a valid excuse of their behavior (be it the abuse or the defense of it).
People also feel cornered and lash out when stuff like this comes up because most do not see themselves as the bad person. Sometimes it takes a little bit of time for them to realise they are the one that is in the wrong.
Of course sometimes they know full well they are the bad guy and are just trying to set up diversions. I have no opinion on which group Wallace is in, I know relatively little about him but some of the accusations if true seem like they should have been pretty self evident to him.
What - as usual - is most concerning is why the people around him, the BBC, the production staff, etc never take action before it is far too late. I think it has a lot to do with NIsh's comment on "the talent". If the talent is wearing a only sock, you fire them.

We get all this talk about helping the youth into work but what about those over 50?
I spent my working life doing manual labour jobs, as I've gotten older a lifelong health issue I was born with has made manual work out of the question. I've been classed as unfit for work for a decade now, what employer would be willing to take me on knowing I'd be either off sick or having time off for frequent hospital/GP visits/blood tests etc?
On top of my health issues there's the well documented discrimination against those aged 50 or over.
There's zero support from the DWP... in fact they routinely ignore my journal messages (I'd be sanctioned in a heartbeat if I ignored their messages though).
I've been facing a growing sense of dread at ESA being rolled into UC & the never ending talk of the DWP needing to target those with long term health issues

Labour could just chant "N. H. S... N. H. S.... N. H. S" for all a lot of us care. Telling the story wouldn't be hard if they were doing good things and wanted to focus on that. But instead we get stupid car-chasing nonsense and half-hearted apologies for allegedly being open to the possibility of starting a process to consider options around a premise that spending money might be possible.

And keep in mind that their chief of staff and previous director of policy used to run a small c conservative think tank. Moving to the right isn't a bug here, despite it having just failed in the US. Labour needs to remember that they cannot out-right both the Tories and Reform. They need to stick to what they're good at. If Labour voters wanted a right wing government, they'd vote Tory or Reform.

More can be done for everyone in regards to employment. Young people definitely need a huge boost because so many can't even get started. But there are also a lot of older people who cannot move beyond minimum wage work despite having degrees, and older people who want/need to change careers but it's difficult to even know where to start. There are also a lot of people who have been stuck on benefits for decades, who are unable to find suitable work for many reasons, who need support. And let's not forget those with disabilities who are often having to live on benefits when they could work if they were properly supported.

When the first policies of the new government are to continue the child benefit cap and focus on prisons that doesn't give young people much hope of positive change !!

13:40 "If you look at how international conflict, for example, affects energy prices." Finally. Someone actually came THAT CLOSE to speaking the reality that war is a major driver of the current worldwide inflation. Duh!. Particularly the war against Russia, where Germany no longer buys cheap oil and gas from Russia and Europe's search for replacement forced up the cost worldwide. At the same time Russia has been thrown closer to China and has spent so much building infrastructure to deliver its cheap oil and gas to China instead that there's some doubt it will ever be available to Europe in the same quantities again. (Oh, and the US is extracting its own oil and gas at an ever increasing rate.).
Both of America's current major wars, the other being the war to expand Israel into the Gaza Strip, are soaking up the world's electronic chips and destroying them.
Bottom line - it is well past time for Europe and Britain to grow a spine! Britain in particular has been joining in every war it's told to, including invading Iraq even. It's costing a fortune, both directly and indirectly.

Great pod. One I shall be rewatching. I too became teary eyed when talking about young people.
    Trauma dump
I’m 23, I have lived with depression, anxiety and PCOS symptoms since I was 14. I am late diagnosed ADHD and undiagnosed ASD. I also have dyslexia and a ED. I graduated uni last year and only got a third due to complex factors, had to retake my first year during the Covid year. I am still proud I graduated. I have been out of work since graduating and want to work in the heritage sector. I have always loved history and want to put my ancient history degree to use. It is a niche sector however an important one. All the jobs in this sector are managerial as that class have made their money and left for the private sector. Or volunteer work as it’s so underfunded these places cannot afford to pay staff but need work. I took the first job offered to me at the job centre after being on UC for a few months. A B&M store opened and I got a job. I have a minor immune disorder so I caught a bug easily at work because someone came in ill. I was off for about a week and a half. They then fired me. They also left go nearly 100 people after the first month. We had to build the shop floor from scratch basically. Most of whom were from the job centre. Horrible really. It knocked my confidence. However I am working with a great charity and am making progress. Though the statistic that I’ll feel the affects of this my whole life is sad. I feel I have great skills and do not half arsed anything. I also don’t live ‘lavishly’ in that I don’t go out, have never spent money on excessive things like tech or clothes or holidays. I just want a chance and I know what I want, I have the passion and skills. Also doesn’t help trains to London are crap and expensive.
To any one struggle, there was a billion in one chance for you to be who you are, millions of years of evolution and history has led to you being alive. Be yourself as everyone else is taken. Keep trying and don’t lose hope. ❤
