Miss Andrea - Other trivia about this video: ** This was actually recorded on the group's day off in Zurich, Switzerland, along with "Creep." ** Casey Abrams (1st bass player) and Haley Reinhart both competed on American Idol's 10th season. ** First duet, Haley sings lead, with Morgan harmonizing below her. ** This upright bass model is known as a "travel bass." ** When Ariana sings "don't worry about your size," the band vamps a bit of "New York, New York," a tribute to her father Telly Savalas' New York-based detective role in the TV Series "Kojack." ** When Ariana sings "booty to hold at night," the band vamps a bit of the intro to the Chordettes' "Mr Sandman." ** Second duet, Ariana sings alto lead, with Morgan harmonizing above her. ** During the "Andrews Sisters" trio, Ariana sings alto harmony, Haley sings second soprano lead, and Morgan sings first soprano harmony on top. ** Chip the drummer sneaks in a wave to everyone during the trio. Definitely a fun arrangement to an otherwise mundane song, eh?
Ariana Savalas (in red) is the daughter of legendary 1970's actor Telly (Kojak) Savalas. "Who loves ya baby?". And the finish was indeed a tribute to the Andrews Sisters from back in the '40s.
FYI . Morgan James is a Julliard trained opera singer , who has moved on to a more popular genre' of music . She is a power house vocalist. Haley is just amazing jazz singer with a style long forgotten by the general public.
Haley does a great job with jazz, yes, but her sweet spot is 1960s rock. Her duets with Casey Abrams (the long-haired bass player in this video) are the stuff of legend. And let's not overlook Ariana Savalas. She's powerhouse performer in her own right who can move from jazz (see her 2019 EP "Sophisticated Lady") to burlesque cabaret (she's been MC for Dita Von Teese in freaking PARIS) and back to rock (her more recent Dark Lady project).
I saw Morgan James in concert this past June. She is OUTSTANDING!!! (the blond on the right). She is multi-genre, jazz, soul, pop etc.. I picked up her albums ‘Nobody’s Fool’ (R&B original songs from 2023) and ‘Memphis Magnetic’ (Soul original songs from 2020). She and her co-songwriter/guitarist/husband Doug Wamble crafted amazing songs on those albums. See her if you get a chance!!!
This is what Post Modern Jukebox is all about: taking 'modern' pop and rock songs and perform them in a more or less 'classic' style. This was the first song I ever heard of them. I saw them live once at a festival here in the Netherlands 😊
nice reaction andrea.... this was the first postmodern jukebox i saw and still one of my favorites. it does excellent job of representing the overall experience of what pmj does so well. not just the excellent vocalist, musicians and arrangement but meticulous implementation of "vintage" character though their outfits, expressions, movements and setting that virtually transfers you back in time. its also great how each of the women are unique in vocal attributes and styles yet can then also harmonize so well together... in addition, the dual bass play was very creative touch and notice how it ends with the bass getting the last word.... well, because its "all about the bass" postmodern jukebox is great but as you noticed haley reinhart is the exception here. she really is extraordinary. her pmj cover of "seven nations army" takes sultry next level as she stunningly brings the real jessica rabbit to life, but I would also highly recommend some of her solo work. her fun jazz duet with jeff goldblum "my baby just cares" (th-cam.com/video/3ipXA9lJzc0/w-d-xo.html ), her very intimate performance with her dad at chess records (th-cam.com/video/omtsHEs2g0w/w-d-xo.html ) and her amazing live b/w halloween themed "i put a spell on you" (th-cam.com/video/LCWwOtdf728/w-d-xo.html ) are all superb... enjoy and happy holidays! 😎
Great reaction, Andrea! This is a very fun song! All three of the singers sounded fantastis. I recently saw PMJ live and it was a very enjoyable evening. They can completely rearrange a familiar song into a new experience. Well worth the price of admission!
PMJ always has something happening in the background. They can be considered 'un-serious' but it comes across as having fun doing something they love. Always a unique retake on many songs. Connected band is Scary Pocket's they have lots of live mash-up songs that are great listens.
I just saw PMJ live last weekend for the second time. Their performances are always "unserious". Except for the talent. They are able to maintain a high level of fun while at the same time blowing the doors off of the concert hall with the amazing display of awesome talent. Truly enjoyable to see. #pmjtour
Great analysis Andrea. you have an educated musical ear. Love all three singers but there is something special about Haley. She has a fantastic smokey sultry voice which reminds me of your musical vocals.
Andrea you have a beautiful voice, I hope you achieve everything you want in life. Love your reactions! Hope you have a great week! PMJ is an amazing group and this song is really good. I love Haley she is a masterful vocalist.
I recently saw Haley Reinhart in concert. Her voice is just phenomenal. She is quite the performer. She's worth seeing live! I looked through your back catalog and see you are missing one of the best singers in the world, Simone Simons of Epica. She has been with Epica for 22 years and is classically trained. Listen to their song Once Upon a Nightmare from the Omega Alive virtual performance. It's one of the most beautiful songs you'll hear.
A style of music that was common around WW2, with the Andrew sisters the stars of the day. There was a little bit of scatting style singing with lead up singer. This is the style of music your great grandparents would of been listening to.
To see Ariana in her element, check out any live performance. She''s also great in No Diggity, Pony, and Criminal with PMJ. And if you fine the trumpet mix of Memory from her solo album, give it a listen.
The bass instrument is usually called the Double Bass in the UK. I often hear Americans referring to it as the Upright Bass. Playing four-handed like that takes a lo of co-ordination between the players - and a lot of ability.
"Unserious" is an excellent summation of the entire PMJ vibe. I mean, when you have a standing offer to have Tim Kubart show up - completely unannounced - at any PMJ concert anywhere in the world to jump around the stage playing a freaking tambourine, have a seven-foot-tall clown sing "Royals" in a voice that makes grown men weep, or perform a klezmer version of Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty", complete with a rap in Yiddish, "serious" isn't really in the equation. And that's pretty much the point. PMJ is *fun*. And yes, the Yiddish rap really happened. Link: th-cam.com/video/yvEWNlcefAw/w-d-xo.html
It really is a fun arrangement and performance. I think PMJ and the ladies had a lot of fun doing this. I enjoy how you found yourself engaged with and responded to the song and performance. I checked out Meghan Trainor's original after first hearing this one. It's quite different, not sure if I connect with it as well. I have indeed found and listened to your new song. It's now in my play list along with at least some of your others. Looking forward to more.
You are very articulate about the music technicalities - I really appreciate that - wish I could get you together with my Friend Devan Yanik who is a singer songwriter in Tennessee
Great reaction! This video is just musical crack. It started me down the PMJ, Haley Reinhart, and Morgan James rabbit holes, and now if Haley or Morgan are in town, I'll see their shows if I have to be carried in on a stretcher. I see you've done their two biggest hits with PMJ, Creep and Dream On, so let me suggest a few others: Haley - This one with Jeff Goldblum (yes, the actor) really shows off her torch singer personality (and Jeff actually plays pretty well, too): th-cam.com/video/3ipXA9lJzc0/w-d-xo.html This is what happens when the show ends and the band isn't done yet - Hit the Road Jack th-cam.com/video/_VCFd32KUVw/w-d-xo.html Seven Nation Army - Vintage New Orleans Dirge White Stripes Cover ft. You're right the musicality doesn't fit the silliness of the acting and shennanigans but then again, like you said, the song itself is a bit trash and they've made something actually epic out of it. Though the video is funny it sounds about 4x better than it looks (obvs. considering the arrangement and vocal performances, but still). I do really enjoy when you engage with vocal performances like this as you definitely bring something that is unique and you seem quite into it, appreciating and sometimes imitating the artists. Continued best luck on your own professional adventures.
I love this performance. PMJ always delivers. For another VERY DIFFERENT take on this song, try Hime Free's country acapella version - slightly rewritten, as it is five guys and some lines just would not work. th-cam.com/video/BuyGVhQFLbs/w-d-xo.html
React the cross arijit singh 25 million live of singapore performance 😮 u have to know.....about the...🙅😍 pagalpan of Arijit singh dude requesting from a hugeeeee fan of ur channel 🎉 lots of love :::::🤗
Am I the only one that thinks Morgan is overrated? She can sing...like she's technically proficient, but there's no color. It's very one dimensional. Putting her next to Haley is just cruel, every time I see it. Because Haley is one of the most dynamic singers around. In her version of creep. she puts to use just about every known vocal effect.
First, YT would block it if there were not interruptions of one sort or another. Second, this vid is reaction, so she reacts - some reactors will merely emote at whatever level, but those with some technical proficiency in either the presentation or the music will generally provide insights based on their knowledge.
I wonder how she'd feel if someone did a reaction to one of her songs and stopped it every 10 seconds, rewinded, started, and stopped again, gave 30 seconds of commentary, backed it up to make the flow disjointed... and then called it "unserious"! This reactor is a once and done for me.

Morgan and Haley do a cover of The Beatles Dear Prudence with Morgan's husband playing guitar - it is beautiful

I loved it when you asked if it was a "bass solo" and there were two people playing it😂😂😂😂
If you want to see a very different, but fun cover/arrangement then I’d recommend Home Free’s acapella version
I’m a fan of the Team Unicorn cover of this one. But yes, PMJ does amazing cover arrangements.

Watch Pete Fountain or Benny Goodman play clarinet sometime

A double bass solo if you will 😁
@@joshuatmanion8010 But it wasn't a double bass. How about a single bass duet solo?
@@joshuatmanion8010 Or duelling semi-basses.
If you ever get a chance I hope you will react to Lucy Thomas covering "Evergreen" (Love Theme From A Star Is Born) by Barbara Streisand.
