Geoff had a wide shot of all of them together, but didn't use it because it didn't go with the theme of heartbreak. This is outstanding in every way. I think Voice Play has grown so much in the last few years because they have had to replace people. Having to have guest singers has allowed them to experiment where other groups haven't had that option which has made them that much better. Home Free is great, just ask Stacey 🤣, but PTX has always left me cold. As to Geoff's solo, I believe it's the moment you truly accept that the relationship is over. He didn't go super low and the others take over as he drops to the basement so fits nicely. VP always gives everyone a chance to shine and doesn't play back up singers to just one person which is why they are my favourites. Thanks for the great reaction. ❤️

Agree with you completely. The vocals, the arrangement - just insane. And the acting? Cesar, EJ and Layne were all wide-screen worthy on this one. Just stunning. This has been a favorite of mine since Raitt brought it out in 1991: this is a totally worthy update. Just amazing.
One thing that I absolutely loved about this video is that as opposed to most Voiceplay videos they aren't standing together which as you said highlights that more "end of the relationship" type feel to it and ads that extra layer of visual that the 5 people singing are all alone

It might be that they have the freedom to do what they live without interference from a label. And as much as people want them to resume touring, I absolutely love that they can use the wide array of guest artists to add just the right voice.
All the a capella groups have great voices. I think what makes VoicePlay special is how the songs are arraged and put together. Give credit to Layne and Geoff for that.
To me, this is VoicePlay's quiet masterpiece. I'm with you that VoicePlay is at the top of their game and no one can touch them. I also love that the house was a character in itself. Each person was alone within themselves.
Cesar is the best addition to the group Voice Play ever had. He can sing anything & do it with great expectations. He also has a great vocal range. Wow can he hit the high notes when it's required.
Take some advice from an old man. I'm sharing a saying I love and practice. It coves both positive and negative comments. " Never allow flattery go to your head and never allow criticism go to your heart."
The 3 groups have their own special niche. Very rarely they cross genres and styles. Appreciate each one. Rank them as 1A, 1B and 1C without naming which one.
At the start of the pandemic my wife of 14 years and I split and eventually divorced. This rendition makes my heart break--it makes me empathize with people on both sides of this situation--and it's cathartic and brings me closer to healing.

Great reaction Lyle! I had very high hopes for this, especially with EJ Cardona. I loved Cesar’s voice at the beginning and EJ and Eli sounded great. But honestly I don’t think it compares to the Bonnie Raitt original.
I liked it a lot, but I didn't care for Geoff's solo part. Please don't come for me. I love Geoff, but it felt off. Disjointed. (And almost pitchy. I don't think it was pitchy. I think there was a moment of instability and a lack of fluidity in the phrasing/breath control.) These jazz chords though... beautiful. I wish there was more pull on a few of them, just make us yearn for the resolve a moment longer.
It's not that I didn't like it, but it certainly didn't blow me away like most of his solos do. I almost wish Layne would have taken a solo, since we so seldom get to hear his beautiful voice
I’m glad I’m not the only one…I think Geoff sounds pitchy and out of place. This version of the song was for those wonderful tenors. And a solo from Layne would have fit better.
What do you mean about breath control in Geoff's solo? He sang it in two phrases... and not exactly short ones, with the second going into the continuation of the bass line.
I won’t come for you lol. It’s just interesting how people experience things differently. For me, Geoff’s solo is part of what lifts this song to a higher level. I wouldn’t want to do without the other parts, they’re so beautiful! But if it were such high sweet tenors all the way, it would have become too much imo. I need something different to make it feel real and to enjoy it. In Swedish we say that something gets “buttery”, kind of “sticky”, when something gets way too sweet and thus seems perhaps even dishonest. Geoff’s part is what emphasises the honesty of this song for me. Can’t come up with any other way to describe it. Cesar is the sadness, EJ the pain, Eli the resignation, Layne the loneliness and Geoff the surrender...
Love your reactions, Lyle,but I'm going to have to disagree with you. The original by Bonnie Raitt was gut wrenching heart breaking with pain that was expressed in her voice. Honestly,I'm not impressed with this version by Voiceplay. The cv must have got to your discernment. The best out there? Not in my opinion.

It's ok to disagree. I like this better than Bonnie's version too And I have great respect for that version
